About this property

The Normans - a joint marketing that sleeps 14 guests in 6 bedrooms

Originally built by a prominent local wheat merchant suspected of being a smuggler, The Normans in Wells-next-the-Sea, is a magnificent three-storey hideaway. With incredible far-reaching views across Stiffkey marshes and the pinewoods at Holkham, this property is located a mere two-minute walk from the Wells harbour.

Wrapped up in local folklore, there is more to The Normans than meets the eye. Little clues, such as wheatsheaves detailed in the plasterwork, hint to a mysterious past. Brimming with original features and character, this elegant sprawling property is well-proportioned and bright. Contemporary additions to the property include a beautiful chandelier, which is a replica of those found in Morston Church, and the conversion of the brick vaulted cellar into a cosy cinema room.

Entered via a generous reception hall, the ground floor comprises of a decadent sitting room offering ample sumptuous seating around an open fireplace, a well-lit dining room featuring a table for up to fourteen guests, a well-equipped galley kitchen boasting an electric range oven with induction hob, and an impressive games room hosting a pool table, with wall-mounted wide-screen television fixed above an attractive ornamental fireplace. Two of the six opulent bedrooms are also located on this floor. Boasting access to the garden, bedroom one hosts a super-king size bed with stunning views through french windows, and is served by an adjacent shower room. Bedroom two offers a king-size bed, charming garden views, and an en-suite bathroom.

Upon ascending the beautiful cantilevered staircase, arrive at the grand first floor landing leading into bedroom three. Hosting twin single beds, this bedroom also features an en-suite bathroom. Adjacent bedroom four offers a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom. Generous double windows in each room invite the outside in. Two further bedrooms are located on the second floor. Bedroom five offers an inviting super-king size bed sleigh bed, and en-suite bathroom. Twin single beds, with trundle beds suitable for two children, are featured in bedroom six. This final bedroom is also served by an en-suite bathroom. The viewing gallery on this floor invites truly spectacular panoramic scenery. Be sure to pack binoculars!

A delightful walled garden embodies an air of calm, and offers privacy for al fresco dining from the barbecue on the terrace. Off-street parking for up to four cars is available.

Once home to many fisherman, Wells-next-the-Sea is a traditional Norfolk coastal town. Little boutique shops and eateries nestle into narrow maze-like streets, and the quay bustles with activity. Colourful beach huts circumvent the awarding winning, sandy Wells beach as it merges into majestic pine woods.

Perfect venue for 50th birthday weekend
House is extremely well furnished and perfect for our luxury long weekend. Fab location 1 street up from Wells harbour with lovely views from the upper floors. Well stocked welcome grocery basket. Parking for four cars - was enough for our group but might prove a problem if the house was at capacity. Garden is small and north facing so doesn’t get sun in the winter but probably catches it some of the day in the summer when it’s higher in the sky. Property was very clean and well stocked with good quality linens and toiletries. I liked the pillow so much I ordered them for my home! I would definitely recommend this property as the perfect large group house for it’s excellent location as you can walk to many pubs and restaurants which you can’t do with many larger rental homes which are in the country.
