About Lynette and Ken Murray

We (Ken and Lynette) have lived in our original home here on the 1.25 acre property for almost 18 years. Our home is on the other end of the property to ensure your privacy and to be on hand if you need anything.

Lynette and Ken Murray purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Lynette and Ken Murray chose Sechelt

Ken is a 3rd generation horticulturalist with ties to the Sunshine Coast since childhood. His Father purchased a 40 acre tree farm here in Sechelt in 1974, which is now owned by The Sunshine Coast Botanical Society and is a 15 minute drive away. We decided to move our large house up to Sechelt from Richmond BC in 1997, so it was put on a barge and brought up here through the Skookumchuck Narrows, up to the beach here in Porpoise Bay. We decided to put the cottage on the upper half of our property in 2011, and now we would love to share this beautiful area for others to enjoy.

What makes this cottage unique

Close enough to all the events that Sechelt has to offer but far enough away to enjoy your privacy and nature. Very close to us, Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, Coast Gravity Park, Hidden Grove. There is also parking for up to 3 cars right in front of the cottage. We also have available parking for boat and/or trailer on the property. (extra fee depending on the size) Please see extra notes under pricing. ***please note VRBO quotes rates in American Dollars. Please change to Canadian Dollars under pricing. We will gladly send you a quote in Canadian with taxes and fees.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Since listing here on VRBO just this last March we have had a great response to our listing. I am very happy with VRBO. I also would like to say how wonderful our guests have been. Everyone has been so respectful of our Cottage and has left it so nice and clean. We have had a few doggie family members stay with no problems. Thank you to all our guests for getting us off to a great start!

Lots of room for the whole family

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was spacious and had everything a family would need.

Lynette was a gracious host and took care to make sure the cottage was warm and the lights were on when we arrived in the evening.

The coast can be wet and damp in the winter the only thing I would say is to pack a pair of slippers as it is heated by heaters which are fine (my husband was comfortable) I felt a bit damp

We definitely plan to return

Ultra clean and quiet home in great location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Lynette's home in the Sechelt area. The property was as described, but really, it exceeded our expectations. Everything was spotless, and this is the #1 important thing to me when seeking accommodation. Secondly, it was very quiet and private. It had everything we needed in the kitchen, and elsewhere.

Overall, the cottage was cozy, warm, inviting and had so much space! The yard was beautiful, and it was only a couple of minutes walk to the beach, and to a beautiful waterfall. I would highly recommend this place to everyone, and would certainly book this again when we come back to the area.

Fabulous Stay at Porpoise Bay Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was very pleased to enjoy a weekend at Porpoise Bay! Lynette's lovely cottage is really more like a home; it is very spacious with a large living room, dining area and kitchen! The three bedrooms are all very comfortable and having two bathrooms was great for our family! We found everything to be as described, including the well-stocked kitchen with everything we needed, laundry room and BBQ! The landscaped yard is very inviting with comfortable patio furniture and chiminea.

We loved being just a very short walk to the bay at Willow Point! Numerous trips were made to enjoy the beautiful view, observe the tides and to walk along the water's edge!

Lynette was very prompt in answering any questions we had and was accommodating with our arrival and departure times, which we greatly appreciated! The cottage was clean and had plenty of towels and bedding! We would highly recommend this very comfortable cottage for anyone wishing to spend time on the Sunshine Coast!

While in the area, we enjoyed time on Porpoise Bay in kayaks rented from Halfmoon Seakayaks in Sechelt, observing seals and bird watching! We also enjoyed visiting the beach at Sargeant Bay Provincial Park and hiked to the shore at Smuggler's Cove Marine Park where we loved exploring the tidal pools and admiring the amazing views!

Great stay near Porpoise Bay!

  • 4 of 5

We (six adults) stayed here for a week. The cottage was clean and ready when we arrived including keys on the table! There's lots of room for six adults and having two bathrooms was ideal. We managed to cook some meals in the kitchen but a lack of pots (only a small and a medium sized one available) and a missing burner on the stove was a bit of a challenge. We ended up ordering some good Japanese food from a restaurant in Sechelt and went out for dinner in Gibsons a couple of times. Our daughters very much enjoyed the beach at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park which is less than 10 min away. Great kayak and paddleboard rental available right on the beach which we used a couple of times. Short drive to the centre of Sechelt, lots of nice stores and coffee shops. Fortunately there was also a KalTire which happily fixed our flat tire! Another recommendation is to drive up to Pender Harbour (Madeira Park) where we enjoyed the Slo-Cat tour of Pender Harbour.

The only thing we were surprised about was the noise around the cottage. Lots of traffic especially during the week (cement trucks and dumptrucks) and a lot of noise from the floatplanes taking off nearby starting at 7 a.m. daily. Other than that, a great stay!

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for the 4 stars. The main things our guest appreciate that the cottage is spacious, clean and in a perfect location to explore all of the lower Sunshine Coast, from Gibsons to Pender Harbour to Egmont. We do leave our #’s to let us know if something is missing from the cottage. Some of the kitchen amenities include a full size oven, refrigerator, microwave, electric wok, slow cooker, BBQ, Pots, 3 frying pans, baking dishes and of course many utensils and dishes. When you don’t feel like cooking there are many wonderful restaurants in Sechelt and other areas on the coast. Our area is very popular especially in the summer months. There are many year round activities as well. Sechelt Inlet does have float plane service that has been here for decades. This is part of the charm of Porpoise Bay and Sechelt!

Great little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely stay at this cottage. Everything was clean and ready when we arrived and we were even allowed to check in a little early on arrival day. The owners left us some firewood out back as well as brought us some fresh crab to enjoy one evening. We were 4 adults, 3 children and a dog and there was more then enough space for everyone. We would go back!! :)
