Sagebrush Shanty Camping Cabin Above Banks Lake

Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2

This little 160 sq ft cabin sits above Banks Lake and Coulee City and has great views of both. Enjoy some outdoor cooking, then relax on the porch and stargaze. This is off the grid so there is no power or water but I have supplied plenty of lanterns, hand pumped water to the sink and an outdoor on demand propane shower. The cabin is very cozy inside with a double daybed. During the summer there is a comfy double bed for outdoor sleeping on the porch or a double wooden bed out in the sagebrush for the ultimate in stargazing! The composting "privy" has a full light door for enjoying the views over the lake! Lol. The fire ban is already on but you can still use the BBQ until further notice.

Amazing views and amazing weekend !!

  • 5 of 5

This little shanty is amazing! What a weekend. The shanty has everything needed for a weekend in paradise. It's so close to so much adventure and fun, hiking and outdoor adventures. With views to wake up to and go to bed too. Meryl is amazing! So welcoming and wanting to be sure we were happy and comfortable. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely brilliant, couldn't have been more perfect.

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to get away and reunite with nature this is the place! Everything works perfectly, what small and necessary amenities there are (heat and water). Perfect size and in a great location, I would return here many times without a second thought, we loved it Meryl! Thank you so much, you were very easy to work with and kept a solid line of communication for any questions we could have had from booking the cabin all the way through the day we left, thanks again!

A gem in the rough

  • 5 of 5

The description of the property is accurate, in the same way you can describe a diamond as a mineral. Off the grid? Yes. Hot shower? Yes. It's that kind of attention to the small details that really makes this place sing. This isn't the spot for a large family reunion spent watching a flat-screen tv. However, if you want to listen to the coyotes at night or watch the stars from the most unusual bed-in-the-sagebrush or explore a fascinating area of the country this might be your spot.

Ms. Hart was super attentive and flexible, even when we were 45 minutes behind schedule and arrived in the dark. She made us feel right at home.

One aspect that folks may be squeamish to ask about is the composting toilet. The "out-house" is a wonder, with a ridiculously good view, no odors, no muss/fuss, super clean, and it has holiday lights (on a solar battery) for when the sun goes down.

Multiple beds for multiple conditions or people's inclinations. The shack is neat, tidy, clean, and very comfortable. Propane stove for heating the shack works very quickly.

But the real joy is just outside the shack's doors.

There certainly will be a return visit, just need more than two nights!

Owner's Response: It was an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to host you at the shack!!! Thank you for your very thoughtful, detailed review of the Shanty. I do hope you'll return someday when the weather is a little more conducive to sleeping out and hiking the area. You were brave to sleep out in that cold. Ha ha. You two were the best!

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

The Sagebrush Shanty was so comfy and quiet, it was perfect! It had everything you need for being off the grid, though I did bring a battery powered radio so I could listen to the Seahawks game while BBQ'ing, otherwise it was lots of peace and quiet and vegging out in the mornings and evenings. Spent the days jetsking down at Sun Lakes. I have found my new yearly spot to stay each August! And Meryl is great, she showed me all of the workings of the property and is super nice. The only downside is that time passed by way too quickly, lol!

Owner's Response: So glad you came Randy! Next time I'll bring you power for your Seahawks game lol. It was great having the opportunity to meet you and you need to move to Eastern Wa someday!
