About Jesse or Jill Clack

Jesse and Jill live on Fish Hook Lake nearby the Fish Hook River Rental, Park Rapids MN. We love the North Pines and Lake country. Jill is retired elementary teacher and Jesse is hard working business owner!

Jesse or Jill Clack purchased this house in 2012

Why Jesse or Jill Clack chose Northwest

LEVEL YARD/ ONE-LEVEL HOME: Most properties have lots of stairs or steep hills to the lake. Also everything is on one level in the house. It is well planned for our retirement home since I sometimes us a walker. It has a lovely spacious kitchen, master bathroom with walk in shower. It has many windows to let in the light including a bay window to enjoy the river view. All the bedrooms have a nice view. So we consider that it is a great space for all ages. There are a couple of steps up to the house and a couple of steps down to the dock.

What makes this house unique

RIVER BENEFITS: Fish Hook River easy connects by boat to Fish Hook Lake and Mud Lake. Staying on the river has many benefits over the lake. When Fish Hook Lake gets windy, which is often, Fish Hook River is relatively calm so people can still canoe, kayak, paddle boat, float & fish without fighting waves. Being on river allows one to fish off the dock end where it is deeper. The water is gently flowing so the current is not strong. The end of the dock is deep enough to float. Since the water flows around a small land point, the sand settles in our front lot to create a sandy, hard bottom. The sun sets over the river and it is spectacular. The river attracts water birds. I like to exercise in the water and this has natural sand bottom so I can get up to shoulder deep to exercise. The river flows slowly and we have a shallow area so our little grandchildren can play in the water. Because it is a river it opens up about 2 weeks early in the spring and stays open about 2 weeks later in the fall. That gives us a longer water usage. Remember a couple of years ago when we had so much ice? The Governors Fishing Event came to Park Rapids and all the lakes were still frozen! Fish Hook River opened up the day before opening fishing and he caught his Walleye just a little up stream from this home just after midnight on fishing opener! We keep the dock in all year, as the water never really freezes solid.

LOCATION: Our property is so close to Park Rapids and the historic Heartland Trail that we don’t need to pack up our bikes in the car to get there. Just hop on the bike, or walk to events or the lovely Red River Park. It is an easy drive to Itasca State Park, Deep Portage Conservation Reserve, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, Paul Bunyan State Forest and all their amenities. There are many day hikes and loop hikes going through a variety of habitats, around undeveloped lakes, bog hikes, and even the Lauertian Divide.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for renting the river home for the last 3 years. We have been delighted to hear about you, you children; and grandchildren have enjoyed the water activites, the property; and all that the Park Rapids area has to offer. We totally agree and feel that living here is such a blessing. I feel like we are on vacation all the time! We will miss having you as renters but are glad you will be staying in the area, so can still stay friends. We are excited about sharing our home on VRBO.

Very clean place

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. The house was very clean and they had everything we needed for the week.

I would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a relaxing week at the lake!

Great place for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Very nice place for family reunion vacation. Spacious and clean house with access to water. We like biking and this property is in close proximity to Heartland bike trail so there is no need to waste time for loading and unloading bikes on the car rack.

Fishing was decent right from the dock. Plan to rent it again next year to spend time with my kids and grand kids. It took us about 3 hours and 30 minutes driving from Minneapolis to this vacation house.

There are no pontoons rentals on the Fish Hook river but there is one on a different lake close to this place. If you like to rent a pontoon make a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance otherwise there is a good chance all the boats will be already booked up by other vacationers.

J&J Sunset Splendor Home was excellent!

  • 5 of 5

The Splendor Home fit our needs very well. It was equipped very well and very comfortable. It was located in a good spot close to all our 4x4 riding areas. It was definitely our home away from home. We enjoyed the sunsets and watching the waterfowl. A deer strolled by to say "hi" a couple of times. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Place and Location

  • 5 of 5

We just spent the week over 4th of July and loved the property. The owners really think of everything and the house is well supplied. House a little older but very well maintained and very clean as well. House has a nice deck that faces fish hook river. They had a bean bag toss game and a hammock that we enjoyed. Water is clean and shallow by the dock. Only one thing I would change in the house is the couch in the living room not very comfortable.

We loved being in Park Rapids and having the grocery stores and restraunts so close by. We also rented a pontoon for 3 days which I would highly recommend. We would follow Fish Hook River into Fish Hook Lake and went swimming at the many sandbars. Nice clean lake.

It was awesome, the house was immaculate and no need to bring anything but food!!

  • 5 of 5

Jesse and Jill were both very gracious hosts. Lots of space even for our friend in a wheelchair. Great neighbors, close to town for any needs. Fishing was awesome and the weather was super! Washer and dryer were very handy for sure, don't pack so many clothes. The house with air was so comfortable with the warm weather. Tons of nice dishware, silverware and cookware...paper supplies and things you forgot to bring. Truly like you were home! One suggestion might be to have better tie ups at the dock but it was do-able. I'm hoping we can go back next year.

Very comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed the home, very comfortable. Owners go out of the way to provide not only a nice place but entertainment options in games incase weather is not for outdoor activists. Provide fish cleaning area which other place have not. Ideal for bikers having the Heartland trail just a few blocks away.

Our first time staying on river was nice but prefer being lake only reason not give a five star rating.
