About J and Kate Hart
We've been home owners on Bainbridge Island since 1998. Prior to that we lived in Seattle across the Sound and looked at Bainbridge Island for 8 years. We moved here for the peaceful, Norman Rockwell small town life style. On Bainbridge we enjoy beautiful vistas, sunsets and wildlife including eagles, whales and harbor seals. Our outdoor activities include biking, hiking, sailing, beach combing and water sports. We enjoy many local restaurants from fine dining to the local Pub on Eagle Harbor. All this while maintaining easy access to Seattle that a 35 min. Ferry ride provides.
J and Kate Hart purchased this House in 2002
Why J and Kate Hart chose Bainbridge Island
The property was purchased after the previous house had burned down. In spite of the still smoldering structure upon first visit, it was obvious that this piece of land would be the place of a dream home. It's mature landscape, towering firs and cedars, western exposure, in historic Port Madison and a view of Nature that is rarely seen was all it took.
What makes this House unique
Views, Views and more Views! From Cat Paws and Zephyrs on the water to amber clouds at sunset that change in a kaleidoscope of colors until the sun sets behind the Olympics. View a parade of Sailboats and beautiful Yachts that come and go every day. View the PMYC annual sailing school in late June where 50 to 75 kids and young adults sail their Opti's and Lasers in a dance of tacking and gybing to the delight of all who watch. View Eagles that perch right above our pergola patio at waters edge. Did I mention views... Summer time star gazing is spectacular. Finally all of these views, and I'm sure i've forgotten to mention several more, are available to see from 3 decks and 2 patio's as well as through the large windows of our home. When you're through "viewing" take a spin on our two (large and medium) full suspension mountain bikes and enjoy the local Port Madison trails. Or take a stroll to the community Dock and Beach to view some of the remaining artifacts from one of the Northwests first Mills dating back to 1854. It was then that Seattle was described as a new settlement to the East of Port Madison. You may also want to try your hand at "Bernardo's" Tuscan apple wood fired oven on the patio while listening to myriad music choices including your own via wifi streaming, through out the house on our state of the art entertainment system. If the weather is inclement (rarely in the summer time) you can get some exercise in our basement Gym where you will find, dumbbells, incline bench, exercise balls, matts and a state of the art stationary exercise bike that will allow you to ride the actual tour de France 2013 with it's load generator and variable pitch that mimics climbs and descents, all while watching the actual video of your ride thru the French Alps. Then there's the Garden. Totally organic greens, vegetables and herbs along with roses and cut flowers! Phew! no more room, ask me about Bernardo's pizza and sailing on "Imagine

This place was so nice, my wife didn't want to go home
I'm not joking. We've spent time in a lot of other vacation rentals. This is by far the nicest home, in the nicest area, we have ever been in. It's truly magical. It was perfect for the grandparents, the parents, and the kids. We enjoyed the beauty of the area, picking fresh vegetables from the garden, combing the beach for shells, exploring the bay by canoe, and watching the sunset while toasting marshmallows at the outdoor fire pit.
The house is extraordinary with views from every room. It was more than comfortable for all of us.
Be warned, if you book this house, your spouse or significant other will try to convince you to move to Bainbridge Island and specifically into this house.
Stayed here for a work event and absolutely loved this home! Gorgeous views and luxury interior. One of my favorite features were the iPads around the house that controlled music and other elements at the push of a button. I would definitely stay here again or recommend to a friend.
Bainbridge Island Paradise
My family spent 4 nights in this wonderful house and enjoyed it immensely. We always try to rent a house when traveling with three generations and this house was perfect. The views are truly amazing. Having built a house and remodeled a house I was intrigued by the detail which made me realize how much attention went into making this house unique. Katie was there but we hardly knew it. She was a great source for questions. I would highly recommend this home. Convenient to everything but also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty.
Heaven, Simply Heaven
We have travelled throughout the Seattle-Kitsap Peninsula for years. We know the area well. We have used VRBO for numerous rentals over the years all over the county including in this locale. We know rentals well. This place is a slice of heaven.
The home is unique in the quality of its location, style, and amenities. Situated on the northeast side of Bainbridge Ialand, the home sits on an elevated bluff between the popular Fay Bainbridge Park and Port Madison with water access. The views of Port Madison Bay from the bedrooms, living room, kitchen and dining room are simply stunning. The balconies and decks are inviting and beckon you to sit transfixed with a cup of coffee or glass of wine from early morning as the blue waters are revealed to the spectacular sunsets. The days are filled watching sailboats glide by and eagles soar past. A babbling brook welcomes guests to the front door of a towering modern Craftsman style home. Inside the home is Architectual Digest worthy with a soaring vaulted ceiling, elegant furnishings and well appointed rooms. The fully stocked kitchen is a cook's dream with first rate appliances and prep island. Steps away from the kitchen is an enormous garden filled with vegetables and herbs. We had lettuces, tomatoes, kale, spinach, carrots, beets, and zucchini as well an array of fresh herbs. All of this was enjoyed either at the inside dining table or the dining area next to the outside kitchen, BBQ and pizza oven, and fire pit, all with expansive views of the bay. We enjoyed a large cutting garden of flowers including roses, a hot tub with unparalleled bay views, a patio situated just under an eagle's nest and soft grass filled terraces. The exercise room with its weights and bike, canoe, kayaks and two mountain bikes were at our disposal. The master suite contains a sleep number bed with quality linens which looks directly out on a balcony view of the bay, and a luxurious spa-like bathroom with a soaking tub and a shower that has to be seen to be believed. Needless to say, we enjoyed this room immensely.
We spent our days either shopping in Winslow, hiking in the island's parks, touring the Kitsap Peninsula, grabbing views of Mt. Rainier from the southeast side of the Island, or hopping the ferry for the 35 minute ride to Seattle. And if we wanted to stay close to home, the neighborhood trails provided a lush escape for a quick hike.
Our family rented this home for a month; we wished we could stay a year.
Thanks Robin and John! We are so happy you have enjoyed your stay!
Beautiful Bainbridge Home
Our family had the distinct pleasure of staying in this beautiful Bainbridge home for a short vacation this summer. The home is beautiful. The view from the backyard is private, expansive and breath taking. The home is excellently appointed, beautifully decorated and comfortable. We wine tasted and visited the Bloedel Reserve while on the island, which were wonderful. We did have some activities planned in Seattle, and found the ferry relatively easy to use. However, the timing of the ferries and length of the trip across the sound were not insignificant. We found the ferry tended to add about an hour to our travel time, each way, which was certainly something to plan for and get used to. We found it much better to stay on the island and take advantage of all the home and the island sites had to offer. The property owner was quite attentive, meeting us upon our arrival and giving us a tour of the home. He stayed on the property in a guesthouse about 100 feet from the front door of the home we were renting, which was something we had never experienced before with vacation rentals. The home still felt private, but we did encounter the property owner or a member of his family at least once each day that we were at the home. We brought a mix of adults and young children to the home, and everyone had a good time. Of note, none of the bedroom windows have window coverings, which I assume is so that the gorgeous view can be seen at all times. However, with little ones who rise at sunrise, one must be creative lest be woken up at 4:30am in the summertime.
The Bloedel Reserve, Grand Forest, Fay Bainbridge Park and the local Port Madison trails will put you in touch with the serenity and beauty of nature at every turn.
