About Laurie Runk
We are an active family transplanted from the Midwest who fell in love with the outdoor lifestyle that San Diego offers. I am a dietitian and college professor - which means I get to teach people about staying healthy for a living! My husband is a civil engineer that travels the region working on bridge designs. We love being on the water, in the garden or in the kitchen cooking. Our most recent adventure has come with welcoming our son in the Spring of 2017. We spend most of our free time biking, fishing, hiking, boating, and it's not an adventure without our 2 dogs along for the ride. Travel is a passion...anywhere in the world, we love to just pick up and go! We have been doing vacation rentals in Riverside, CA, and San Diego, CA for 5+ years and it has been a fantastic way to connect with people from all over...we love to hear the travel stories from both guest and hosts alike. And there's nothing better than the inside scoop on the best local spots so we're constantly on the lookout for places to add to the list as a host! I believe the best part about traveling is finding places where you feel like you're at home no matter how far away you may be.

Why Laurie Runk chose Kensington
We have spent a significant amount of time traveling around Southern California and it only took one trip to the neighborhood of Kensington to know this is where we wanted to buy a home. The whole neighborhood is a beautifully kept, historic area with very thoughtful and active residents. There are always people out walking, kids playing at the park, and local events to enjoy. We love that there are a variety of standout restaurants and wine bars within short walking distance to the house. The peaceful environment makes it ideal for sitting outside on the patio in the mornings and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. As if all of this wasn't reason enough to settle in Kensington, the accessibility to ride the trolley into downtown, the proximity to ALL of the San Diego beaches and attractions (stadiums, zoo, Sea World, etc), and the short trip to Temecula Wine Country are just icing on the cake.
What makes this Villa unique
Having the opportunity to renovate a property in such a lovely neighborhood was a wonderful experience. Entering the property, you will walk through a quaint, gated archway and immediately notice the handcrafted reclaimed wood door from Mexico and beautiful hand-painted flower pot by the entrance. The lawn is top of the line eco-friendly artificial grass which requires zero maintenance and has a cooling compound so it is never too hot on your feet. The small outdoor patio is original to the home with beautiful landscaping for privacy and enjoyment. Inside, there are too many amenities to list with beautiful stainless appliances and large farm sink, gas range, and OF COURSE a dishwasher to make life easier!

Clean and comfortable!
Everything about this property was just as described in the listing, and our stay was fantastic! The home was immaculately clean, and all the appliances and fixtures were fairly new and worked perfectly. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and utensils, and it was nice to have such a large fridge and a dishwasher.
The neighborhood is safe, friendly, and fun. We always had a parking spot right outside, just steps away from the door. The property is off main roads (no traffic), but it is very convenient and close to the highway. Also, it was nice to have plenty of channels to watch when we stayed in.
Overall, this was an outstanding property and location. The owners were responsive, kind, and helpful. I would stay again anytime.
Cozy little villa with a great location!
My husband, 19 mos old daughter and myself stayed 4 nights at Laurie and Andys villa and we fell in love with it and San Diego! Let me start that Laurie was very accommodating to us and allowed for an earlier check in since our flight arrived earlier. The villa was stocked with everything from to go coffee containers to extra cotton balls which made it nice if you did forget anything. The villa had an industrial chic style which made me feel right at home. We enjoyed sitting outside at the cute table having breakfast every morning :). The location of the villa was perfect, only a quick 15 min drive to beaches, downtown areas, parks, zoo and restaurants. Where the villa was located close to Kensington St which had a strip of shops and restaurants which we walked too a couple times, we had dinner and breakfast at the Kensington Cafe (loved their French toast). Thanks again Laurie and Andy for opening your villa to me and my family!! It made our trip memorable!
ps. If your one who reads reviews prior to booking a place...I will give you some advice....Book the villa! You won't be disappointed!!
We enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable and cozy home. The neighborhood is very peaceful and a short walk to wonderful cafes, a wine bar and a great little grocery store/deli. The home was just as pictured with many amenities! The beds were comfy and the owners were available with any questions/help needed. We will definitely stay again as it is close to SDSU where our daughter is a student. Much nicer and closer than a hotel!!
Clean and comfortable!
We had a wonderful stay! The house was very updated, clean, and had every amenity we needed to have a comfortable visit. Andy and Laurie were wonderful hosts and were very pleasent to interact with. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others!
Charming Little Hideaway
When I look for a place to stay on VRBO, I always look at the pictures to see if it has the right "look" in character and cuteness and this little gem far exceeded my expectations! I was looking for a place within walking distance of Kensington shops and this place did not disappoint! I walked to Kensington Cafe for breakfast one morning, at 6:15am, and I felt very safe in the surrounding quaint neighborhood.
The bed was comfortable, living room quaint, bathroom was newly and tastefully re-done, and the kitchen was fully stocked for all my cooking needs.
I would definitely stay here again in the future and I would highly recommend it for your next visit to San Diego.
very enjoyable and very good location for the things we planned. Inside was very functual
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The place was neat and clean and the necessary items were freely provided
The little things we were able to fix with a phone call to Laurie.(TV and the heating / cooling unit)
We had a very enjoyable stay the whole month of February and would do it all over again, without hesitation.
Laurie and Andy are very good hosts and available, when necessary. We would recommend the place to anyone
It is a 5 star place.
