This quiet, serene, and peaceful cottage has a storybook feel, with Tudor-style beams and high ceilings that make the space feel much larger than its square footage. The guest house also boasts an unbeatable location adjacent to Chico's beautiful Bidwell Park and walking distance from the charming downtown and Chico State. The space—originally designed and built in the 1930s by Chico architect Louis Brouchoud, who lived in the main house—has recently been fully updated and newly furnished. You'll enjoy the newly added sleeping loft (with full-sized bed; the bedroom offers a queen-sized bed), gleaming all-new bathroom fixtures, and a spacious living room, decorated with modern flair by the homeowner, an interior designer. The cottage also offers a fully equipped kitchen. The space is also flexible for families or small groups; an additional queen-sized inflatable bed is available upon request. Chico's beautiful weather and warm evenings are easy to enjoy in the guest house's private yard, which features a fire pit—a peaceful spot for a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine.
Guests have private, turn-key access to the cottage and its private yard as well as laundry facilities. If you are visiting town and require secure storage for outdoor equipment, bikes, etc, that can be arranged. Free on-street parking is easily available immediately outside the front door.
Interaction with Guests
The hosts live in the adjacent main house, but the yards and access to the two buildings are fully separate, affording guests as much privacy or interaction as they wish. The hosts are present and available during stays. We love to tell people all about our wonderful town but also understand that some visitors prefer privacy.
Our charming historic neighborhood is what drew us to this home. The proximity to Bidwell Park—which offers a beloved children's playground, a creek for wading or swimming, and plentiful biking and running trails just outside our front door—and to downtown is wonderful. The tree-lined streets are gorgeous. From our home you can bike to just about anywhere in Chico with ease.
Biking and walking are the best ways to enjoy Chico, especially from this location, and we even have a pair of his and hers cruiser bikes available for guests. We are a block away from one of the main arteries of public transit. Several bus lines are very convenient to the house. Chico also offers affordable taxi services and pedicabs!
Other Things to Note
We are steps away from Sycamore Pool (One Mile), and just across from the starting line for many of Chico's well-known races. We are also less than a mile from Sierra Nevada Brewery and Chico State University. The living room of the guest house looks directly onto our chicken enclosure, where you can see our happy chickens taking dust baths and helping with pest control. We also have a friendly dog that lives on the property but does not have access to the guest house yard.
We hope our guests love and respect this historic property as much as we do! This is a close-knit neighborhood and community, so please be respectful to the neighbors. Please, no smoking inside the house. Sorry, but we do not allow pets.
