Little slice of heaven!
Just returned from a glorious 8 days at Egmont View. As others have said, the house is more beautiful in person. The house faces East, so each morning you wake up to see the sun coming up over the ocean - and your personal pool. It was paradise.
Egmont is just a little "off the beaten path", but with a rental car was very accessible. There is a mid-sized grocery store just up the road which was adequate for a day or two's worth of supplies. The IGA in town (about 20 mins drive) was better for stocking up. The town and a slew of wonderful beaches were all within a 20 minute drive. The driving is definitely an "adventure" -- narrow, winding and hilly roads. Especially challenging for those not used to driving on the left. But we quickly became comfortable and were able to navigate the island in daylight. We generally opted to stay in at night and avoid the roads in the dark.
Google Maps will allow you to download the local map to be used when you are offline (if you are not planning to have cell service on the island). This was INCREDIBLY handy as navigating the island (with very few street names) can be tricky. We took Google Maps with us wherever we went and took advantage of the GPS.
Michelle and Sheliza were terrific. We took another reviewers advice and asked Michelle to prepare us the local dish, "Oildown" She was happy to oblige and we really enjoyed it!
The house is adequately, but sparsely equipped. Don't expect to find much in the way of extras. It would have been nice to have a small cooler to bring to the beach. We were glad that we packed a couple of pool floats which we thoroughly enjoyed (and left behind for future guests!). Maybe a few other items for leisure activities. But all in all a wonderful stay.
A real gem
The house is really lovely with beautiful views and is so roomy - five of us were able to spread out comfortably. It’s a lovely quiet area, so there are no local amenities (that you can walk to), except Le Phare Bleu, but we weren’t over impressed with it. The house is pretty well equipped - we barbecued most nights - and Michelle the housekeeper is really helpful.
We knew so little about Grenada that we didn’t know what to expect of the island, the people or the house. Our first impressions, in the taxi from the airport, were mixed - the driver was a real character and gave a us a bit of a guided tour, but we were more concerned about the traffic. So, our advice is to use taxis for a day or two, so you get used to the driving and roads. After that, hiring a car locally is fine (we used Sanvics - had a couple of problems but no hassle about swapping cars).
Amazing villa with a simply stunning view!
Really enjoyed staying at this villa was absolutely amazing, great facilities and brilliant swimming pool.
We were greated at the airport by Sheliza who organised us a taxi to the villa late at night and settled us in nicely.
Everything about this villa was brilliant and had easy contact with the owner through home away.
Would highly recommend and would love to return again to Grenada!
Thanks Thomas was a real pleasure to have you at our villa so glad you enjoyed your time on the island and in villa we delighted youand family had a wonderful experience please tell friends etc about the villa and if you ever come back to Grenada then my villa always there for you x
Glimpse of Paradise
From the beginning the owner was extremely helpful with answering questions and a great sense of humor. Sheliza, the manager, could not have been more helpful; from meeting us at the airport, arranging our car rental, showing us how to get to the house, answering questions throughout our stay, Sheliza was outstanding in every way. Michelle greeted us with a smile and takes great care of the house.
The house comes as advertised, magnificent and the view was hard to leave. We enjoyed the isolation from everyone else and the local hills were perfect for exercise. This was one of the best experiences with a HomeAway owner I’ve ever had.
Thank you Christopher we are so please you enjoyed the whole experience of our villa it was a pleasure to chat to you and help you in anyway we could x
Most incredible house for a relaxing vacation
This house is incredible! The pictures don't even do it justice. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be coming back. From being picked up from the airport by the best driver, Lasho (who ended up being our driver for the week), to being greeted by Sheliza and Michelle at the house when we arrived - our entire stay was seamless and relaxing. Michelle was incredible and so kind. I highly recommend learning how to make the Grenada National Dish 'Oildown' from her. I can't say enough good things about our stay. The house and neighborhood are so beautiful. Do yourself a favor and book this place if you are in need of a relaxing vacation. I will say this is a little further away so you will need a driver or car to get around and I would recommend Lasho. Thank you again for such a lovely stay. We look forward to coming back.
Thank you for a beautiful review so happy you
Enjoyed the villa x
The good and the bad.
We loved the views and the spaciousness of the property. Michelle was a wonderful cook and housekeeper and gave us the five star treatment. Definitely can’t say enough how welcome we felt by Michelle especially as I had not been to my parents home country in several years and I was introducing it to my husband and children.
However I can’t say that everything went without a hitch. On the first day we had an inauspicious beginning with the property manager, with a broken glass door and injury to a family member. Her tone quickly changed as she realized that we would hold her accountable. I believe the owner has misplaced their trust in using her ... her attitude and disrespect quickly comes across.
In addition We were unable to use the TV in the evenings. Although there were basic cooking utensils it was not a fully stocked kitchen if you wanted to cook. You definitely need a car or taxi to get around so keep that in mind.
The air condition in the master was not the best but the other bedrooms worked well but it can get hot in the main rooms if the winds are blowing. There are a lot of stairs and levels which may be a safety hazard for the younger and older visitors.
Overall we enjoyed our time despite the shortcomings and would look for similar accommodation closer to Grand anse on future visits but would want to steal Michelle to take care of us.
