Excellent. Well equipted. Kitchen maybe over equiped and a bit cluttered but not a big deal. Entertainment room has multple electronic devives that the adults were challenged by but the teenagers figured it all out. Really enjoyed our stay. Would definately consider it sgain. Internet very slow but that helped all get away from constant use of “smart phones”.
The property is rural but absolutely great!
We do this with a 3 generation family of 18 every year. This is one of the best properties we have stayed at. The setting is delightful. The facilites are great. We had worried about the 3 building arrangement but it is actually a big advantage. The owner family is as nice as you could imagine. We split the week between days of recreation at the lodge and days exploring the surrounding area. Leaving is difficult! You will love this place!!
Fantastic Lodge for Our Family Reunion
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lodge. We had 21 family members attend our reunion and there was plenty of room, lots to do, and everyone had a great time. We came largely to see Glacier (which we did for 2 full days), but we found the kids wishing they could spend more and more time at the lodge. And frankly, so did the adults! We enjoyed the lake and the fantastic game and entertainment room. We have some great cooks in our family and they all greatly appreciated the well-appointed kitchen, which had everything they needed. Maureen was fantastic, there if we needed directions on something, but otherwise respecting our privacy. This was one of the more expensive properties we have rented, but worth every penny. We wish that our schedules had allowed us to stay longer!
A superb place for a family reunion
Our family of 18 fell in love with this beautifully furnished, comfortable, expansive, generously-stocked, and extremely private site for our annual family reunion. It's really even better than its description by the owner. Right on Highway 93, a half-hour or so from the entrance to Glacier, it was well worth it. On its own 80 acres, complete with superb views from the multiple decks, a lake for canoeing, fishing, water-boarding, whatever (a littler murky to swim) and surrounded even more by state park, its owners remain unobtrusively nearby and run their own Starbucks-style coffee shop a few steps away. Two buildings have large spaces for a whole family at once, guaranteeing constantly changing configurations of Grandma, cousins, and their aunts and uncles. Family members found lots of things to do nearby, but just hanging out had sufficient pleasure for all of us (including the rec room with fooz ball, billiards, and a gazillion board games and the upstairs viewing room). Worth every penny!
Fantastic space for retreat or reunion
Our family of 19 spent our annual reunion at the Nordic Lodge. There are three houses that we occupied: the eating, gaming and sleeping lodges. Air conditioning was provided in the gaming lodge theater room. Delightful hosts! They ran a coffee shop we frequented. Not great for handicapped people and a distance from Montana attractions, but a wonderful place to gather, cook, and enjoy each other. The time flew by. Highly recommended for retreats of all sorts.
Dog Creek Lodge is located about 15-20 minutes north of Whitefish in the town of Olney, MT. It has no neighbors except for moose, elk, deer, owls, trout and the occasional bear. The property is completely surrounded by Stillwater State Forest. There are miles and miles of hiking, biking, atv, snowmobile and cross country ski trails accessible right from the front door.
Dog Creek Lodge is truly a one of a kind property. It is extremely rare to find an 80 acre parcel completely surrounded by public land, yet close to highway access and less than 20 miles from the resort town of Whitefish. Originally developed as Dog Creek Campground back in the 1960's, you can still see the old KOA office/store at the entrance to the estate. It is now the caretakers residence.
The trail system surrounding Dog Creek Lodge takes off in all directions. Directly across the street from the main entrance is a trailhead that accesses trails and fire roads from Whitefish to Glacier National Park to Canada.
Dog Creek and Dog Lake provide some of the best fishing in the area and they are located right out the back door. It is not uncommon to see ice fishermen out on the lake in the winter time. Dog Creek Lodge has its own private trail to the lake. It is less than a 5 minute walk.
Should you need the basic necessities or fuel, there is a general store in the town of Olney, which is about three miles away. Next to the store is Thad's Tackle Shop. Thad has been in the area his entire life and can certainly point you in the right direction when it comes to fishing the areas lakes and streams.
Despite being surrounded by the great outdoors, Dog Creek Lodge offers all of the amenities you would expect from a luxurious estate. After you return from a day of hiking at Glacier National Park or whitewater rafting on the Flathead River or alpine skiing at Whitefish Mountain or shopping in the quaint resort town of Whitefish, you will be able to get away from it all and relax in whatever way means the most to you. Whether it is a cold beer in the pub/gameroom, or a movie in the theater on the 80" HD television, or getting comfy with a book by one of the four fireplaces/woodstoves, or a glass of wine on one of the four decks overlooking the lake, meadow and creek, you will have no shortage of options.
