RENTAL #1- LOG CABIN AND EXPEDITION HUT
(RENTAL #2 is called 'HEXAGON' about 100ft away)
Cabin has large decks, 4 small bedrooms, kitchen with 2 burner stovetop (propane) and large food prep area. There is NO running water but we have a simple, effective set-up with well-water in containers for washing and cooking. Dishes are done on porch outside. (You bring your own drinking water and ice.) Main room is 2 story with wood stove and large dining table (it becomes the main gathering place), large couch, easy chairs. Creative cooks can stick to the 2-burner propane stove or use the wood stove or outdoor fire pits for all day soups, etc. We also have a small hibachi (bring your own charcoal). 2 coolers (large one kept on deck and small one inside). Top 2 bedrooms are open to large room below. Gardens include herbs for your meals and teas. Guest cabin is lined with silvered barnboard and has 1 sofa bed and a double futon in the loft above. Writing table, wood stove, small deck.
Owners artist studio is about 100 feet along edge of forest but you'll have lots of privacy should they be there. If you'd like to be completely alone on property that can be arranged (extra fee)
Well-kept cottage road into cabin. 1/3 mile shoreline, 40 acres forest and trails. Lots of parking.
Interaction with guests
Owner may or may not be there in a nearby artist studio but there is distance between abodes. If your interest is to be completely alone on the property - please discuss with owner (extra charge may apply)
House-keeper lives in village nearby.
The perfect place to put those electronic devices away and engage with life in all it's natural mystery! That said, we have minimal solar power, though so that phones can be charged though a signal is intermittent and definitely no wifi. The solar will also charge a light or two should you wish more light for making dinner, etc.
The property is very private but there is a small village nearby with wifi and a town 10km away with large grocery store and wifi cafe. The local people are wonderful and we have a lot of international visitors to the island.
There are no buses and few taxis. You'll need a car.
Other things to note
BRING: your own coffee, foods, drinking water, ice
COOKING: many of our friends love to cook, so we have a good set-up with a large table for food prep, etc. It doesn't take long to figure things out, just use common sense and logic and imagine you are your ancestor!
* bed linens, towels, blankets, duvets, pillows, tea-towels, earth-friendly dish detergent + shampoos, etc and the basics such as salt, pepper, tea. Dishes for 6-8.
* Lots of water provided in containers for washing dishes, etc. Outdoor toilet is pumped regularly and very pleasant to use (and a good view!)
OUTDOOR SHOWER: is unheated but warms up in the sun. Everyone finds their own unique technique to stay clean and oddly, and often lose taste for warm showers upon returning to 'civilization'! We also have a tin cowboy bath and bowls for sponge bathing.
