Lovely old cottage
We stayed here with our son and dog in July. In the lead up to the break the owners advised us about the sat nav problem and told us what to do as well as birds nesting outside the main bedroom window. The entrance to the cottages is narrow but there is plenty of parking and a field and play area in the parking area. The cottage is spacious and clean. And we even managed to have a fire one rainy evening. The bath and shower are noisy but this is a really old cottage and is not going to have modern facilities. There was milk, bread, tea etc on arrival. Two of the bedrooms are spacious and have plenty of storage, the bunk bed room is pretty tight and would only really sleep 2 small children. There is nothing within walking distance and you need a car but we felt this was reflected in the price we paid for the summer holidays. We visit Cornwall regularly and felt this cottage wasn’t a bad spot to explore, especially in the north. The cottage is just about 6 miles off the A30 I believe? Overall, we liked this cottage and would recommend it.
Very good and well equipped
Lovely cottage but grubby.
COULD be a delightful cottage, as the building itself is spacious and full of character, but the standard of cleanliness was unacceptable. Too many traces of previous occupants, including old, used towels in the kitchen and bathroom, and dirty cooker and microwave . The owner did respond quickly and resolved some issues immediately, but this shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place. Our delight and excitement had been snuffed out and a good clean of the property can’t bring back that feeling. It’s in quite a remote location, which means it’s absolutely peaceful and pitch black at night. Having said that, this was a visit at the beginning of January; it might be different in high season when other families are in the neighbouring cottages. Be prepared to have to drive to any local shops, pubs, attractions. The cottage is well-equipped and a welcome basket was provided with bread/milk etc. I notice now that most reviews I’ve seen for this property are from 2017. Maybe it was in better condition previously; it just didn’t feel like the owners were bothered if we had a good experience or not. A shame. It’s got so much potential to be lovely.
I think it’s unfair to say that the owners aren’t bothered if you have a good experience or not. We have an exceptional record with the cleanliness of the cottage commended in many reviews. There is no excuse for anything less than perfect which is why I personally apologised and went up to the cottages immediately to clean following a message from the guest. We pride ourselves on our high standards and we have addressed issues raised with our cleaning company to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Everything we could have wanted. Impressed with the essentials that were left out for us on our arrival.
It’s very remote thus very quiet
The cottage is lovely however there’s a few pointers:
• loads of dead flies around so a little bit of tlc would’ve recommended!
• cars not easily assessable via very small gate
• main oven didn’t work
• satnav postcode leads you elsewhere so a latitude and longitude would be recommended
• all Beds quite hard
Otherwise a lovely place if the owners would take more care of it. We left a day earlier as it was in the middle of nowhere!
Lovely cottage excellent position
Stayed over Christmas. Perfect in all respects even had a Christmas tree on arrival.
