About Mary Rae Cawood
We built this cabin over a 2 yr period and finished it in 2014. We are avid horse lovers and trail riders. We use this cabin as well when it is not being rented out.
Why Mary Rae Cawood chose Oneida
Our family has always loved the area and the BSF National Forest is a hidden gem of East Tennessee.
What makes this Cabin unique
It is a great location to a main trail head on the Oneida side of the National Forest.

Great little cabin
We were quite pleased once we finally found it. The address provided by VRBO was incorrect and we were pulling in around 1 am, 2 by the time we found it on the 1/2 mile long lane pulling an 18’ trailer. The space was great and the amenities were good. We wished there was either a dining table or at least a card table we could access. The bar would be ample for eating but we wanted to play games. I would recommend some rug backers to prevent slipping. The floors are a gorgeous hand scraped dark wood that gives the rugs so much slippage we had 2 falls. We simply put them away and set them back out when we left. It was awesome having a full size washer and dryer for our daily dirty clothes from riding the trails in our side by side at Royal Blue. We didn’t really spend any time outside because we were tired after returning but there was ample outdoor seating and a lovely fire pit area. Really nice gas grill was also available for use. I can’t think of anything that we needed, but we didn’t hardly use the kitchen for anything other than drinks. I would recommend this home.
A little slice of Heaven
This cabin is perfect for those who want to get away from it all! Hiking trails are accessible from the property, and scenic drives are endless. The owners have created a warm, inviting atmosphere and have provided everything you need for your stay. There is a king size bed and a queen size bed downstairs, and there is a twin bed and a full futon in the loft ~ plenty of room for a family. There’s a gas grill on the front porch.
Bring bug spray as this is in a remote area. Bring a good book to read during your down-time. Bring a light jacket for the cool evening air. If you decide to dine out, RaeZack’s is fabulous ~ home cooked vegetables and desserts all at reasonable prices.
We highly recommend this property, and we will definitely stay here again when visiting this area.
clean, comfortable, and great home base for outdoor adventures
Great property and location. I highly recommend staying here. It's so close to some of the finest hikes in this area and perfect for horse travelers and walkers. The cabin is spacious and comfortable--has plenty of a/c for those hot humid summer outings and all the cooking stuff you need to make home meals to replenish for the next day's adventures. The Rangers in the BSF at Bandy Creek are a goldmine of useful advice about planning your time--so close to the cabin. Groceries are 10 mins away in Oneida and Knoxville was a reasonable one-hour trip. Thanks to Mary Rae and David--professional and friendly hosts.
The cabin was simply adorable! Had everything we needed! Comfy and cozy! We would stay there again.
Loved the cabin! Mary Rae Cawood was very helpful and kind! Our family truly enjoyed our stay. We would stay there again for sure!
My family of five, including three younger children loved the getaway this property provided us.
