About Faye and Finis Long
We are Faye and Finis Long, retired from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. Even while working, we spent every weekend in Eagle Nest and Red River. We just couldn’t see staying in the city when the beautiful mountains of New Mexico were only three hours away. Clean air, relaxed small town atmosphere, no traffic, we became addicted. For years we used a management company in Red River to manage our nightly rental property. After retiring, we decided to manage our nightly rental properties ourselves rather than have a management company. We came to the conclusion that we could provide our guests with a high quality rental property for less by renting through VRBO. We currently have the Michael Martin Murphey Cabin (MMM) on Bobcat Pass and the Longshot Cabin (LS) in Red River on High Street and the Little Deuce Coupe (LDC), a couples cabin. So, whether you want to stay out of town or in town, we have a property that we maintain, clean and rent as a nightly rental. We do not charge booking fees, (aka credit card fees, we will absorb those fees as a cost of doing business with you), damage insurance (damage charges will be only if you damage something). We do charge a cleaning fee of $125 per stay. We clean and maintain our cabins ourselves. Because the properties belong to us, we care. We clean and maintain our cabins with a commitment that most cleaning services do not provide. We live close by and are available if there is a problem. We try to meet all of our guests as a courtesy and so our guests will know us and feel comfortable when contacting us. We love having guests enjoy the LS Cabin, the MMM Cabin and the LDC Cabin on whether you prefer in-town or out-of-town cabin, small or large. We hope our returning guests will book their favorite cabin, be it the LS Cabin, the MMM Cabin or the LDC through VRBO and our new guests will feel free to call us with their questions
Faye and Finis Long purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Faye and Finis Long chose Red River
We purchased this property around the Christmas Holiday 2014 and began remodeling it. We love doing remodeling, although we are weekend warriors! We wanted a property in town to use ourselves on occasion when the snow is just tooo deep on Bobcat Pass. It is also, a property for our "old age." It has no stairs, everything is on one level. Walking in from the outside is only a half-a-step into the cabin. We love cowboy and wildlife decor and have collected too much to put in one place. We love the rustic life but also want all the comforts of home. No "off the grid" business.....give us a dishwasher and let's get out and see the sights! The Longshot cabin is located in an area that has it all. In town, with all the celebrations and hoop-la, fishing ponds for the kids, the river itself, skiing and just a short drive to wilderness, hiking trails, and 4-wheeling in the Carson National Forest. If family can't agree on the fun for the day, shopping is close enough to walk and the rest can 4-wheel to Goose Lake, then all return for a cookout at the Longshot in the evening while sharing the fun events of the day and "just how big that trout was that got away".
What makes this Cabin unique
The LS Cabin is on High Street, one of the few streets that guests can ride their side-by-sides to the entrance to Mallett Canyon and to the gas pumps to gas them up, no trailing to get to the trails in Mallett Canyon. The LS is all on one level, no stairs. Family members old and young can come and feel independent at the LS Cabin. The LS has an outdoor fireplace with a lighted covered patio for late evening get-to-gathers outside. Grill and eat on the patio and enjoy a cool evening in the mountains. The LS Cabin has all the comforts of home, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and we furnish the necessities. Plenty of play area on the porch and under the patio cover for the little guys. The LS is on the shuttle line, the Miners Transit. If your destination is farther than you want to walk, give them a call, they will pick you up and bring you home and the best part....It is FREE! The LS Cabin is located on the East end of town where most of the adult night life entertainment is located....walk to the Bull 'o Woods or Motherlode and walk home....no worries! Our guests just need their personal items and food and the enthusiasm to have a good time in the unique town of Red River and surrounding area. Check out New Mexico true Red River for all the doings throughout the year. Use the LS Cabin as your home base and enjoy it all, if it is only getting away from the sweltering summer heat in our neighboring states. (by the way, each bedroom has a ceiling fan!) You will not need air conditioning in Red River. You will probably need the extra blankets we provide! Be sure to bring a jacket for the cool evenings out on the patio by the outdoor wood stove. Welcome to the beautiful mountains of New Mexico and most of all to Red River!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great, as always!
We have stayed here several times. The owners are very accommodating and kind.
Comfortable, Clean and Inviting home!
While at first the house seems out of the way, being on the outskirts of town, it really isn’t; it was close to everything! Well-furnished house and nicely-apportioned kitchen. The patio was great and the outside lighting was a nice touch! The washer and dryer was a huge help after a long day of skiing to be able to dry our gloves and clothes.
Overall an excellent stay!!
Great location great place
Perfect spot for a family.
Loved the location. Located as soon as you come into RR, no need to stay "in town", unless you like that. Felt like being at home. Cabin met all of our needs for 2 families. We cooked every night, crock pot, coffee maker, outside grill at cabin. Shuttle is very quick, loved Norman. He took us and picked us up to ski lift or shopping. Highly recommend the Longshot Cabin. Cell phones worked, but Verizon seemed to work better than AT&T. I ran out of "out of Network" data with AT&T. We played on a sled hill across the street within walking distance. Skiing was the best we've ever gone too. Almost all trails open. Snow was beautiful. Can't wait to go back. Owners were easy to get in touch with and always helpful.
We had a wonderful time at the Long shot cabin. My children enjoyed it. We had everything we needed.
It was very nice place.
The down fall was not having any internet or only having 3 channels on the tv. Rained almost the whole time so we were in cabin more then expected to be. Other thing we did a lot of the cooking there and so I noticed that skillet where not great to used. Very cheap so it made it where everything stuck.
Other thing that I was not really happy with was paying a cleaning fee and then I had to make sure all trash and dishes needed to be done. I don’t have a problem doing that but I feel maybe the cleaning fee should have been lower.
