About Anna & Norrie Maclaren
Artist and Gardener, Anna Raven and her husband Norrie Maclaren have lived at Ard daraich for over 15 years. Norrie took over the Hill Garden and Shrub Nursery in 1999 from his parents who bought Ard Daraich in 1969. Once the holiday home of Constance Spry, the Maclarens, both father and sons, developed a garden that is now of special interest. On her arrival, Anna converted the potting shed into a self catering cottage within the garden making it an ideal retreat for garden lovers. Part of the main house is now also self catering and Anna paints in her Studio whilst Norrie has a career in photography, film and television.
Anna & Norrie Maclaren purchased this House in 1969
Why Anna & Norrie Maclaren chose Fort William
Situated at the beginning of the Ardnamurchan penninsula, Ard Daraich is perfectly placed to get the best Lochaber has to offer. Within easy reach of the popular attractions of Glen Coe and the Nevis Range we are a step away from the busy roads and tourist attractions. Ardnamurchan (of shipping forecast fame) is the most westerly point on the British mainland and has a quieter pace of life. With a Stevenson lighthouse, white sandy beaches, ruined castles and few people, you can find all the peace you need for solitude and tranquility. The Garden House is set within a plantsman's garden with an interesting collection of Rhododendrons and other ericasious plants with complete access for our guests.
What makes this House unique
A Garden Lovers paradise with full access to the plantsmans garden. Easy access to stunning Highland landscape from the door with a beach and seal island at the bottom of the lane. You can hear the silence.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
What a wonderful place. Charming and comfortable throughout. A "home from home" in an amazing environment. If you go, you must take a walk through the gardens. Very welcoming hosts despite us arriving wet and weary on 2 motorcycles. We soon dried out in front of their burner. Norrie could not have made us more welcome. Will we return ? You bet we will ! Already looking forward to the next time. Thank you..
Thank you for your lovely review and we look forward to seeing you again.....
If your heart is in the Highlands....
Hated to leave and would love to come back.
Glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope you WILL come back.
Lovely home with a lovely garden on a beautiful peninsula
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, historic house! The location was lovely & peaceful with stunning views across the loch. Glencoe & Ben Nevis are both near-by but the peninsula itself offers beautiful vistas! Norrie was very welcoming & helpful & we would love to return here one day!
Thank you for your lovely review.
Beautiful location & a cosy, comfortable house
We loved our stay at Ard Daraich! The house was cosy & comfortable & the large garden was beautiful with views out across the water. The log fire was a real treat after a day spent hiking! The peninsula offers beautiful views in every direction and, with Glencoe & the Ben Nevis areas near-by, you’re in for a visual treat! Norrie was very welcoming & helpful with tips on what to see & do - thank-you for a wonderful stay!
Thank you for your lovely review and we are delighted you enjoyed to visit to Ard Daraich and Ardnamurchan.
With many thanks,
Anna & Norrie.
Comfort and style surrounded by beautiful scenery
What a wonderful holiday we have had at this beautiful house in Ardgour.
Words can’t describe the amazing views from the garden and stunning setting.
The house is comfortable, cosy and a joy to be in.
Every day has been different, we’ve walked miles and witnessed so much wildlife.
The owners have been friendly and helpful and the extra touches such as organic delicious smelling bubble bath and soaps much appreciated.
A huge selection of DVD’s and books, beds and linen comfortable and we’ve had everything we’ve needed to have a very special week in the Highlands.
We will come back!
Thanks for your lovely review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Come back soon.
Charming home in lovely garden setting
We spent four nights in this lovely and comfortable cottage in late March. The interior was charming and had everything we needed. We enjoyed traveling to local area attractions, including Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and Inverness and the Urquhart Castle. But we enjoyed our time in the cottage just as much, sitting by the fire and perusing the many books on offer. Norrie and Anna were wonderful, accommodating hosts. We would be happy to return any time, especially to enjoy the beautiful gardens in season!
Thanks for your lovely review and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
