Three Bedroom, 2.5 Bath, Sleeps 8+, Large Kitchen, Open-Living Area View Home

Bay Cove is a large 1970s home, with open-living space, and all the basic needs of a vacation rental. We continue to improve this simple, spacious, clean and comfortable home for the enjoyment of our guests. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in one wing of the home, and a huge kitchen and large living room with attached den that becomes a fourth bedroom. All beds are new and comfortable, and there are couches for potential additional sleeping in the living room. The incredible views and the private beach and natural areas available a short walk away are fun for everyone. There is a small two-cottage duplex on the same property which is rented separately, and the owners often live in one side of the duplex. There is a deck attached to the house, and also a small patio with fire pit, shared with the nearby cottages, available when weather conditions are right for campfires. The house, deck, backyard and small shared patio are all available for a spectacular view of the bay or enjoying the beautiful lights of Charleston harbor. We can direct you to easy bayshore access that requires a 500 foot walk along Cape Arago Hwy., or other easy bay access for clamming or crabbing within short driving distances of less than one mile.

About John and Candy Chatt

We are a retired couple, John, a federal wildlife biologist, Candy a swim coach and airline employee, and both former Nebraska Farmers.

We consider ourselves adventurous, spontaneous, budget travelers and we love meeting new people and sharing travel experiences. We also enjoy all outdoor activities including: birdwatching, kayaking, and just observing the wonders of nature.

We have lived in this immediate area since moving to Coos Bay from Corvallis in 1999. We recently acquired this property just 500 feet from our previous home, and we feel this is the perfect property that seemed designed for a vacation rental near Charleston, on the beautiful southern coast of Oregon.

What makes this house unique

We felt fortunate to happen across this wonderful part of our country, the best overall climate we have ever encountered, fresh air, and plenty of room to wander to our heart's content, without the hustle and bustle of so many other places. We love the diversity of habitat and the associated diversity of bird species that are regularly seen. We also enjoy observing the every-changing dynamics of the bay and shoreline. The views and solitude of walking on a private beach provide a never-ending source of enjoyment and relaxation.

Amazing view in a clean and relaxing home

My family recently spent a long weekend in Coos Bay; and staying in this great home definitely made this a memorable trip. First, let me say that the view from this home is "AMAZING"! When we walked in we all just stood in front of the windows looking out in awe. And the view at night is just a fabulous as it is in the day. It is fun watching all the lights in the boat harbor at night. As noted by other reviewers, the property is well maintained. I am very picky about a vacation rental being clean and this place met my very high standards. The kitchen was well stocked; there was nothing that we needed that we did not find. We got lucky crabbing off the docks and the house even came with an outside crab cooker so you did not smell up the house! As for owners of the home, John and Candy Chatt could not have been more gracious. They met us at the house when we checked in and were so nice. Truly a wonderful couple. Our family is already talking about wanting to go back to Coos Bay and renting this same house. It is a winner.

Beautiful home, gracious hosts, wonderful vacation!

This home has gorgeous view of the bay, and it is so comfortable. Our hosts greeted us, even though we'd forgotten to let them know our arrival time. The house is stocked with every possible amenity anyone would need. We enjoyed fires in the livingroom and the sunrises over Coos Bay. Just staying in this home made our vacation fun! Of course, the gorgeous Oregon coast was spectacular and this home is adjacent to fabulous beaches with great surf!! I highly recommend this vacation home!!

Gorgeous views, super comfortable home

Super comfortable home, amazing views of the bay, spotlessly clean, and really comfortable beds. The home is remarkably well stocked with everything. The views of the bay are breathtaking. Our hosts cordially greeted us and had a fire ready to light in the fireplace. Ataying here was such a treat!!

Relaxing with a spectacular view

We stayed in the main house at Bay Cove. It was very relaxing. Candy and John greeted us when we arrived and were available when we had questions about sightseeing. The house is extremely comfortable with large rooms, comfortable furniture and beds, and a well-equipped kitchen. The view is spectacular with windows along the entire wall facing the bay. We will definitely stay here again.

Very Clean and well maintained

John and Candy were wonderful hosts. They were close enough to be available for information but also gave us our privacy. We visit Coos Bay just about every year and generally stay in another vacation rental, but we made the switch and will stay here again.

We love the breathtaking views in the area, including from our home, backyard, and deck. Charleston is an authentic fishing village and the entire area remains an unspoiled gem on the Oregon Coast. The area is a birdwatching paradise for shorebirds and seabirds, as well as other species in the diverse habitat in the area. Harbor seals and sea lions are abundant and easily seen throughout the area. Whale watching is popular from several scenic points along Cape Arago Hwy, and the Shore Acres Formal Flower Gardens and holiday light display, scenic coastal hiking trails, and tidepools, are popular attractions, along with spectacular wave watching during winter storms. Our location is on on the bay near the beginning of the South Slough National Estuarine Reserve, and we can assist you with advice, maps, and tide info for a great kayak adventure into the Slough. Enjoy a relaxing golf game at nearby Sunset Bay Golf course (7 minutes away) or travel 19 miles to the world famous Bandon Dunes courses. Crabbing and clamming is available from the docks and the mudflats, and we would be glad to to provide a crab trap or a bucket and shovel for clamming along with a few pointers, and maybe even a demonstration to get you started.

1. All of the units are privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.

2. People other than those in the guest party indicated in reservation may not stay overnight in the property. Any other person in the property is the sole responsibility of Guest.

3. No camping is permitted on the property unless previous arrangements are made, and the owner is fully informed on all aspects of a camping request.

4. No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property. Evidence of smoking will result in the loss of your security deposit.

5. Pets are NOT allowed anywhere on the property. Violation of this rule could result in the loss of damage deposit.

6. Crab cooking indoors is not allowed. We provide a large pot and a propane cooker for outdoor cooking, to avoid lingering odors indoors.

7. Keep the property and all furnishings in good order.

8. Only use appliances for their intended uses.

9. Parking: Vehicles are to be parked in designated parking areas only. Parking on the road is not permitted. Any illegally parked cars are subject to towing; applicable fines/towing fees are the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner. No overnight parking for anyone except the guest party indicated in the reservation.

10. Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping service. While linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate.

11. Acceptance: When payment is made, it implies that this rental agreement has been read and accepted by the traveler.
