About Barry Tendler
We are a retired couple that have our main home in Miami. My most favorite place on earth is Staniel Cay, Exuma, Bahamas.
Barry Tendler purchased this House in 2003
Why Barry Tendler chose Exuma
It is a beautiful home that is immaculate, completely equipped with everything that you would like to have. The view is spectacular in all directions, and it is located less than 1 mile to any place on the Island.

Great place to stay in a fabulous location
My wife and I stayed at Swept Away for 8 days in February 2018 and really enjoyed our time on Staniel Cay. The house has lovely views in every direction, was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed to ensure a very relaxing holiday.
The design of the house and location means that you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset with sun or shade throughout the day depending on your preference as well as cooling breezes due to the elevated position. It was also very quiet and private while being a short drive away from everything we needed (the Island is very small!).
The golf cart that is included in the rental was great for exploring the island and making regular visits to the Yacht club for drinks and dinner which we really liked. We also loved visiting Pirate trap beach which was very beautiful.
We had the good fortune to meet Barry who is the owner of the property who gave us lots of useful information about the island and told us some very interesting stories too.
We rented a boat for the length of our stay and really enjoyed exploring the local area and would highly recommend this. We had very limited boating experience but got the hang of driving it and navigating within a few hours.
Having explored the rest of the island we were very happy that we chose to stay at Swept Away and would definitely choose to stay there again if we ever get the chance to return to Staniel Cay.

Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful review! It is so ice to hear that
our guests feel the same way as we do about our fabulous place. Hopefully, your
glowing review will encourage new guests to come and stay at "Swept Away".
It was a real pleasure having you stay at "Swept Away", and please know that you are welcome back anytime. See you soon!
Perfect for two couples
We rented the home for a week and it is just the right size for two couples. Great views all around. Easy to relax in. Kitchen a bit short on dinner knives, wine glasses & coffee cups, but otherwise fully stocked. We were visiting friends on the cay so the included golf cart made it easy to get around. Barry was very solicitous that we enjoy our stay -- and we did! Lovely island, great community and welcoming people too.
Thanks so much for the glowing review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay, and please come back anytime. Regards, Barry
I stayed there for a week, and the accommodations were superb! Everything was in working order and very clean. The views were awesome and could not ask for a better place. Will most definitely be staying there again. Internet and TV were a big plus!
It don't get better than this (Song by the Barefoot Man)
Swept Away could not have been better, which is more than I can say for VRBO which lost my first attempt at writing an excellent review.
From the outset, it was a real pleasure working with Barry. Not only did the rental go smoothly, but he also made recommendations for travel to Staniel Cay from Nassau and boat rental. We had originally thought to go to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, but it is always fully booked, but, having now been to Staniel Cay, renting Swept Away was a far better option.
We were two couples over 70, with 3 of the 4 having lived in Nassau for a minimum of 12 years each. So we knew the Bahamas well, and consider the Exumas to be one of the best, and arguably the best, vacation spots in the whole Bahamas. The private plane from Nassau provides some exquisite views of the colors of the Exumas.
Swept Away was ideal for two couples. It is bright, comfortable, and has a magnificent 360 view as it is on one of the highest points of the island (about 60'). This also means it gets the breeze, which adds to the comfort and obviates the need for the a/c for a lot of the time. The golf cart is a big plus for getting around.
If you're looking for great night life, this is not the place for you. The Yacht Club is lively, but there's nothing else. The food at the Yacht Club is very good, and, given the cost of getting anything to Staniel Cay, is quite reasonable. The Taste and Sea restaurant has good Bahamian food, but they soaked us on drink prices. Big Dogs usually has Pig Feet Souse, which you should try if you want a real Bahamian specialty.
If you are able to provision up before going to Staniel Cay, you should do so. The 3 grocery stores have limited selections, and, if the mail boat doesn't come in, may run out of even staples.
You can't go to Exumas without going out in a boat. Barry's caretaker, Berkie Rolle, runs a store and a marina and rents out boats. The water is maybe the most beautiful in the world and there are plenty of islands with beautiful beaches close by, so you don't need to be an expert boater, just learn how to "read" the depth of the water by looking at it.
If you want a (mostly) self-catering, peaceful, relaxing, reasonably priced, idyllic vacation, you would have to look hard to beat Swept Away and Staniel Cay.
Love Swept Away!
We had some challenges getting to Staniel Cay. Our flight was delayed out of Newark to Nassau due to plane maintenance issue and we missed our connection flight to Staniel Cay. We ended up spending a night in Nassau. Barry, thank you for going the extra mile helping us get to Staniel Cay! You checked in with us as we arrived, making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our vacation. Milly (housekeeper) is very sweet. She picked us up at the airport, showed us how to get around town and everything else we needed during our stay.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and letting us use your golf cart! We love the décor of the house. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck and just admiring the beauty of the island.
Your Swept Away home is the perfect location on the island. Very close to stores, restaurants and quiet beaches. We loved the beach closest to the Swept Away home. It’s always quiet there and made us feel like we have the whole island to ourselves.
People on the island are very friendly. We enjoyed eating local foods and buying fresh homemade bread from Emil’s. The beaches here have the most pristine water we’ve ever seen. We loved visiting the pig beach. We will be back for sure to create new memories!
Exploring the Bahamas Land & Sea National Park, Exploring many caves ,including the World Famous 'Thunderball Grotto' where scenes were filmed for the James Bond movie of the same name, 'Thunderball', also, visit the famous swimming pigs of Big Majors, and the giant Iguanas on Great Iguana Cay
