About the property

1 Bedroom Apt 10 min to midtown, sleeps 5/6

This is a bright and fresh one bedroom and semi private den railroad apartment on the second floor of a two story building. You'll have one set of stairs to climb. This apartment is being freshly painted and newly decorated (Feb 2015).

The bedroom has a double bed, bedside table and lots of closet space. North facing window for a lovely breeze at night. Bedroom has locked door access from building hallway.

The living room has a sofa bed in the living area, as well as a trundle bed in the den area. The den area can be curtained off for privacy. This apartment is great for two couples, will fit six (two people on sofa bed, two in bedroom and two in den) it will be crowded with any more than four adults but it's up to you! This is a typical one bedroom apartment, railroad style, so not huge.

One efficient bathroom with shower/tub combo, everything is clean and in good working order.

Full kitchen with dining table and seating for four.

Parking: Parking: There are three options for parking. 1) Municipal lot two blocks away, good option if you arrive before 5pm (visitor permit required 2) Street parking - good option if you arrive before 5pm, as spots are very limited. Let us know if you decide to park in the lot or on the street, as we’ll provide you with a visitor permit ($25 deposit, held until permit is returned ) 3) reserved parking spot next door, this is $10 per day.

Wifi included

Entire apartment private for your group only.

Bedroom has private access, so you can go through the outside hallway to bathroom if you have other people sleeping in the living room.

Beautiful, small apartment near NYC

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is beautiful. It is small but very comfortable. So many amenities that you literally need to just bring your clothes. 1 block away from the bus to NYC, then a 10 minute ride. So simple. The neighborhood is very safe. We were 3 women travelers and walked around alone. Not once did we feel unsafe. The owners were very accommodating to us. We had an issue with the air conditioning, and they resolved the problem within hours. Very satisfied and happy with our choice to stay here, and would definitely do so again.

Clean, Comfortable & Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Great overall experience! Our host Maria was quick to respond and provided great information about the area, parking, catching shuttles into city and much more. Our accommodations were very clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed. It was very nice to have our own kitchen. The location of apartment was extremely convenient to NYC. You walk 1 block to the shuttle stop that goes into the city. The shuttles are constantly coming by and are only $3 fare each way. The shuttle stop for the apartment is also the first stop outside of Lincoln Tunnel. The neighborhood felt nice & safe. All conveniences were within a couple blocks and it is also walking distance to a beautiful overlook of NYC. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, Maria!

Cozy, convenient, clean, complete!

  • 5 of 5

We were arriving later than we expected but Maria was able to meet us right when we got to the property. She could immediately help us with parking our car and getting the right parking permit so we didn't have to worry about that. The apartment itself was really nice, very clean and in excellent condition all around.

The kitchen was well furnished, with a stove and oven, big fridge and dishwasher, all utensils etc. along with some basic condiments. We had no problems making the meals we wanted (no microwave, though).

The rooms are all arranged in a straight line like a railroad car, where you have a hallway through all the rooms. We didn't mind that at all. We used the bed and the futon, both were very nice.

It was pretty hot while we were there, only drawback was that the air conditioner was at the kitchen end, so not much of a breeze came to the far bedroom. A ceiling fan would have helped a lot but it wasn't a big issue for us.

Location is terrific, right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Lots of little shops nearby, we also went to the nearby Walgreens and food store. Travel to Times Square was ridiculously easy: Go to this corner, find the small white shuttle buses, and get on. It drops us a block from Times Square. Getting back is just as easy, go to this street and find the white buses again. We never even had to wait for a bus, there was one boarding or waiting when we wanted to get on.

There were a couple updated NYC guidebooks we could use, and Maria provided a nice guide to local services like a community pool, laundromat, deli, etc.

It was a terrific place for our family of four to stay, we appreciated Maria's willingness to help us out with our odd schedule.

The only bump in the road was that I didn't know that the "HomeAway" app was such a crucial part of checking in! Once we had paid and got the link to the app, the app provided a lot of details that were not anywhere else in the emails or website. Be sure to download and *USE* the app to get driving directions, communicate with the owner, getting transit, etc. The app really improved our stay once we figured out how important it was!

Great apartment if you don't mind the noise

  • 4 of 5

We had a great 4 day stay at Maria's nice and clean apartment. Its strategic location is very convenient to go to Manhattan by bus. Expect 10-15 min to go to the grocery store though. We chose to rent an apartment instead of a hotel room because we absolutely need to cook our own food as our daughter has severe food allergies. In that respect Maria's apartment only lacked a couple of items as a fruit/vegetable peeler, cutting knives (only a 8 inch blade was provided... not to practical to cut an apple for a toddler, for instance!) and a microwave oven. That aside, we enjoyed our stay... after trying and failing to sleep the first night in the main bedroom... We come from a very calm suburban area near Montreal and didn't expect to hear buses stopping and going just below our window. So we moved to the living room and slept on the sofa bed for the remaining of the first night and the following. It was a bit disappointing as the nicely decorated room only served as a storage area. The sofa bed is rather comfortable if you're not to tall: I'm 5'7 (1.71m) and it was just long enough. It was neither our first nor our last stay in NYC as we live quite close and all in all, we will probably try to find something on Manhattan the next time. It might be a bit more expensive and smaller but still, it might be more convenient (stores, transportation, etc.). If this is your first time, Maria's apartment will be great to get to Time Square, the MOMA, the MET, Central Park and more...

Owner's Response: I'm very glad to know that Remi and his family enjoyed the proximity to the city and I appreciate the 4 out of 5 stars! The kitchen does actually have paring knives, a bread knife and a multi-purpose knife as well as a chefs knife, but I will have to take them out of the drawer and put them into a knife block so they are more at hand. It's too bad I didn't know that certain items couldn't be found, I would have walked over with whatever was needed. We are able to enjoy such close proximity and easy transit into the city because this apartment is so close - with that of course comes city life and street noise. For those who are very light sleepers or not used to any sounds at night, it might be practical to pack some earplugs.

Great apartment - so close to NYC!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at Maria's apartment and were met by one of the nicest person I have ever met. The apartment looks brand new and was in great condition, clean, well decorated with absolutely no issues. We had so many questions as this was our first time visiting NYC and Maria had all the answers, suggestions and more. We called her a few times during our stay for answers and she immediately answered. The bus to NYC is 1 block away we took 6 minutes to board and 5 minutes to get across. Coming back buses are abundant hardly any waiting and it is the first stop back from NYC with a short 2 block walk back. Great location for visiting NYC, A+ for service and A+ apartment!!! We would stay in this apartment in the future and tell our friends back home. Thank you Maria for making our stay truly enjoyable!
