The two shower rooms are fully tiled, each equipped with a basin, toilet, large walk in shower and heated towel rail.

A cot (please bring own linen) and high chair are available. Please inform us at the time of booking if you wish to use these.

The cottage has central heating throughout and also benefits from one metre thick stone walls keeping it cool in the summer and cosy in winter.

There is a garden/sitting area to both the front and rear. The east facing front garden is ideal for breakfast while the west facing rear garden catches the afternoon and evening sun, perfect for evening cocktails and dinner. Both front and rear gardens are equipped with a table and chairs to allow for leisurely outdoor dining. In the rear garden there is a large umbrella and BBQ. Notes:
The area is famous for its wine. Vineyards nearest to the cottage are Pouilly Fume and Sancerre. Also nearby you will be able to sample the wines from Coteaux du Giennois, Mentou-Salon, Quincy, Reuilly, Chateaumeillant and of course Cotes de la Charite from La Charite. The vineyards are open six days a week for sales and tasting. The delicious goats cheese, Crottin de Chavignol, is produced locally and goes exceptionally well with the local wines. Chateaux and Gardens: We are in the middle of the chateaux route "La Route Jacques-Coeur" which offers 16 chateaux and historical sites; this together with the abundance of beautiful gardens available locally means you will never lack something to do. Fishing: the locals are passionate fishermen, so why not join them? There is a huge choice of picturesque spots along the Loire. Local towns: La Charite sur Loire, Sancerre, Vezalay, Bourges and Nevers are all beautiful towns well worth a visit.

Gorgeous cottage in picturesque location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed four nights at this delightful cottage last week, and it surpassed all expectations. The cottage itself is pristine, with lovely spaces outside and inside to dine and really gorgeous decor. The village of Mesves is charming and rustic, with 2 bars and and good local shop. It is also walking distance to the river and we were lucky enough to swim in the Loire as the weather was sublime. With a car or bike (amazingly bikes were provided) you can explore neighbouring towns, La Charite was gorgeous as was St Sur (sorry if spelling is wrong!). We did a lovely bike ride along a river path as well as an afternoon of canoeing which I would really recommend and the current carries you along so gentle excercise! The town of Sancere is also worth a visit and close by with lovely cafes and wine shops. We definitely want to visit again, and next time will be sure to visit the many vineyards as recommend by the host but we ran out of time! Oh and before I forget they have a great BBQ at the house which was great for suppers outside. The host gave us loads of notes and recommendations for restaurants and things to do which were invaluable. All in all can't recommend this place more highly - and only a few hours from Paris makes it super convenient. We hope to return! Many thanks!

Lovely house in quiet village

  • 5 of 5

Lovely quiet location, very comfortable sitting/dining area. Good sized bedrooms and small but excellent shower rooms with lots of hot water.

Pretty outside eating area. Useful welcome pack on arrival with bottle of local wine.

Good for tennis, cycling and walking. Lots of nice restaurants one within walking distance (about a mile).Although we had our own bikes the ones at the house looked good.

Well placed for wine tasting!

I would fully recommend a visit.

Peaceful week near the Loire

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay, the welcome pack was a nice touch. The property felt new, lovely and clean and having two shower rooms with toilets was very handy, and the big bed was very comfy.

The village is quiet but very nice, and having access to the bikes meant we could take advantage of the local Velo routes.

La Charite a few minutes by car is lovely with bars, restaurants, etc.

Anyone staying here in this beautiful part of France will enjoy.

Great property to enjoy the Val de Loire

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our three week stay in May/June 17. The further particulars give an accurate description of this well-equipped property which accommodates four people comfortably. We enjoyed the option of the two al fresco dining areas, enabling us to choose sun or shade, both providing a very pleasant setting to enjoy the excellent local wine.

The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, each has its own well-equipped, modern shower/WC. The house remains refreshingly cool when outside temperatures are high. It was always a pleasure to arrive back after our various outings.

Mesves is a charming, sleepy village. There are a number of interesting walks from the house. The scenic, sandy banks of the Loire are easily accessible - lots to admire for nature lovers.

Pouilly and La Charité are interesting and attractive small towns only a ten minute drive away, with large supermarkets plus a 24 hour petrol station available at La Charité. There is a wide choice and variety of outings within easy reach to suit all interests, eg Nevers, Sancerre, Guédelon, Vezelay, and the picturesque village and gardens of Apremont.

The cottage provided us with an excellent holiday. Jackie, the owner, was very supportive. Many thanks to her for the thoughtful welcome pack, including wine, water, bread, butter, jam. The weekly cleaning was also first class. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Highly recommend this perfect place

  • 5 of 5

I can start by writing " oh la la" but that would be a lame cliche for this lovely 2 bed maison nestled in a tranquil laid back village on the Loire. The cottage and its surroundings arouses all of one's senses. My four day stay flew by with so much to explore around Mesves. Each day offered numerous activities; walks along the river close to the maison listening to bird chorus, cycling to La Charite Sur Loire, walking along pilgrim paths to a magnificent Abbey, crossing the river on picturesque iron bridge, cycling or water rafting along the river and cycling along Roman road to the world famous Sauvignon Blanc -Pouilley Fume, tasting wine at the vineyards, driving through break taking clean crisp air alongside vineyards from Pouilly to Sancerre. My biggest and best highlight was discovering one of the best Gardens in Europe. Be sure to pop into the Office de Tourism de Pouilly for the wine tours and wine tasting and tastes the various cakes in the Boulangeries at La Chariste. Landlady Madame Chapelow had mentioned that the Boulangerie at the bottom of the street is the best but if you ask me they are both equally unique and offer the finest cakes and pasteries. Each evening the cottage was a warm comfort for tired feet and senses and felt like coming home to relax. I could write and write but I leave you to go visit this lovely cottage in Mesves. I am definitely going back in the autumn when the nearby Château de Chaumont hosts the International Garden Festival, which it does every year. Photo below. This year's theme is the 7 Deadly sins and I bet one of the sin is Pouilly Fume🍷

Modern cottage in a traditional French village

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this lovely cottage during a hot spell in August and was delighted by how cool and comfortable it felt - there clearly has been a lot of thought put into this place.

Mesves is a short, attractive stroll from the river Loire and a nice area for running/jogging if you are so inclined. Sandra at the local Bar is brilliant at coaxing you with your attempts at speaking French but will equally switch to English if you prefer.

There is plenty to do and we certainly only touched on some. We would highly recommend La Tour de Pouilly-Fume with its multi-sensory show, aroma cave and, of course, the excellent wine tasting at the end. We would also recommend the walk starting from St. Pere Village (which has a great artisan oil and nut butter shop), to hilltop Vezelay. It is not too demanding, and lovely to discover lots of restaurants, boutiques, free wine tasting and the old Abbey when you get there. There are some stunning chateaux to visit in the area, but you will need to check opening times before you go.

We had some great meals at reasonable prices. We tried Restaurant de L’hotel le Laurier at Saint- Satur (a mother/son team) where a 3 course evening meal was 25 Euros. We also had a very traditional 3 course lunch at Chez Memere in Pouilly for 15 euros. We also enjoyed buying from local markets and having supper in the garden.

Overall a very relaxing stay that could easily become routine.
