Nice Place

  • 4 of 5

Don't let the outside give you any doubts. This place was very nice for what we needed. We had a very relaxing time and would stay here again. Even though it ended be much further away than I had planned from outing we still were very please with the place.

Great home base

  • 4 of 5

At first, the layout seemed a little strange, but ended up being great for our trip. The shared bath/laundry is in the very clean garage, which was a bit of a surprise. However, this was perfect after long, sandy days at Tahquamenon and Pictured Rocks to come back and clean-up and change before going inside. The garage was great for unpacking and repacking our gear without having to use the living space. The other bath is attached to a bedroom. Another surprising attribute are the pocket doors that don’t lock. It was fine, and we didn’t have too many awkward moments with our kids, 6 & 9, but a new experience for us.

This had a wonderful location to walk to the bay (swimming beach), grocery/restaurants,and agate beach.

My husband and I have work we need to access online, so it was wonderful to have so many outlets and reliable internet. It suited our needs- a clean, reliable place close to our day trips.

Probably a great place for certain travelers, not a match for us

  • 3 of 5

This one goes into the category of choosing carefully. There is nothing wrong with this property but it's not what my wife and I were looking for. I suspect if you are a group of guys headed up north for a weekend of snowmobiling that this place would be great. For a couple like us enjoying a week hiking around in the UP in the summer without our kids it didn't really match our interests. It's spacious - not all that important for a married couple. It has a nice big TV - we didn't turn the TV on anywhere for a week. It has a garage - probably really nice to bring the sled's inside overnight if you need to work on them. What we value - a very comfortable place to crash after a long day of hiking and sightseeing including a nice firm bed and comfy furniture. My advice, take the time to assess what you are looking for in a property and then choose.

Owner's Response: Stephen: I think you are correct. You needed to assess the property further and take price and value into account. We are not a luxury accommodation. You should have discovered that by doing a price and picture comparison of the available properties. We are a very clean, well appointed, value stay that is perfect for small groups and families. We have a perfect location and everything you need for a comfortable stay. You are our lowest rating ever and I believe it is not deserved because you chose poorly. We are exactly what our listing and price reflect. Too bad your three stars reflect your mistake and not our property. I hope you find the luxury you are looking for and the price that goes with it in your future visits to Grand Marais. If your review were constructive I would be glad to address any issues you truly had at our cottage.
