About Margaret Hix

The property used to be part of our grandparent's farm and is now owned by a family partnership. Our family has been in Cecil County nearly 100 years and our reputation within the community is impeccable. When I was a child, there was only a tent platform - today it has become a multi-building base camp for family gatherings.

Margaret Hix purchased this cottage in 1955

Why Margaret Hix chose Maryland

Multiple generations have added improvements over the years, so now it is the perfect setting for large families or two families with children. Completely renovated in 2013.

The property reflects a style of relaxation where one rarely wears anything but a bathing suit. With no meetings to attend, no where to get to, no responsibilities - it is amazing how quickly one becomes centered and calm next to the quiet waters and the herons walking the shores looking for breakfast.

Shoes are optional.

What makes this cottage unique

Solitude, peace and relaxation. Heaven on earth for grand children and their parents and grandparents.

There are endless gunk holes along the river to explore. Beavers, golden eagles, osprey and waterfowl galore. Kids can live in a real life "Tom Sawyer" river adventure with turtles, Indian artifacts, wildlife, fishing and exploring tributaries of the river.

The water near shore is shallow and safe and the bottom is sandy. The farther swims the muddier the bottom - like all of the Chesapeake Bay.
