Perfect location for relaxation

  • 5 of 5

I miss the sound of the falls already. I am not sure which of us had more fun. The grands loved the large lawn to run and play as well as the shallow part of the river (definitely need to bring swimming shoes). We all practiced our casting and had fun catching tag and release trout. It was family paradise and will be this family's annual event!!! Thank you!!! Becky Wylie

The best mountain vacation we've ever had.

RiverRock Cabin is the place we will never forget and plan to return to often. The drive onto the land was spectacular and culminated on the banks of the South Toe River. We sat on the deck over the river and watched our boys fish the gentle current, then grab their tubes for an afternoon of rafting. At night, we gathered around the fire pit and watched a full moon set on the river. The house was comfortable with a new large deck with cushioned rockers outside and and old porch swing on the front porch. The bathrooms were just renovated and the knotty pine den and hardwood floors made you feel right at home. Wifi and cable were available so that we could check in on the rest of the world, but this is just the place to take you away and back to the things that matter. Several old barns and out buildings on the property and a Christmas tree farm in the front yard. Close to great food and shops in Burnsville and Spruce Pine. I travel often and I know a great value and this place is one of them.

Just like Gramma's house

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time. The house was just what we were looking for. Not far from town, but very peaceful and quite. Our 3 year old grandson came to stay with us a few days and caught his very first fish (and was pleased that we let it go home it its family in the river). There are so many things to do in the area. We did gem mining, went to Grandfather (and Grandmother) Mountain (saw the bears, and eagle), crossed the swinging bridge, visited the Antique store in Burnsville, and all of the stores on Main Street. We ate at the Deli on Main Street, and Bubba's... both were really good. The last night we were there at the house we sat out on the side porch to watch for shooting stars ... we were not disappointed. The only thing keeping me from giving this wonderful vaction spot an excellent reading is that there was no phone servce. We did find phones, changed one up and plugged it into and obvious phone jack, but there was no service. It is stated in the lease that there is service, and I'll bet if I had complained about it someone would have fixed the problem. I'm not sure we will do it again, but I do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a lovely, kick back kind of vacation. The house is clean and spacious. The yard and out buildings are lovely. Wish I could post some pictures, but then again you would miss the thrill of seeing it yourself. :-D

Better in person

  • 4 of 5

Lat minute trip but well worth it and Melissa was easy to work with as the people helping to take care of this nice country home. When we first pulled up it was not what we expected it was more, pictures can not do this place justice it's a need to seen with your own eye's. When your eye's take in the land, garden out front, the trees, the home, the barn, the deck at the river, the building with the rockers, and then the river it just takes your breath away.

The look on my wife's face was priceless so I knew we where in for a good week. But the river took the top prize for being the one thing the kids did more then anything else and I was able to fish a little and got me three but I gave them back for future visit's.

The home had all we needed and more, I wish there would have been A/C in the whole house but having the window units made for a restful night for me. Not that we needed to go anywhere but when we needed something a short drive and everything you would need was available. There was a Wal Mart, Igles, Fred's, Roses, Dollar General, even a movie house down town for your enjoyment.

And as a bonus there was a family of bunnies, a few squirrels "they hung together," and a groundhog/gopher that would hang out in the garden between the home and road. My 4 year daughter got up each morning and went to the window to see them out there getting breakfast, to me that was great to see her look at the bunnies and friends.

Back to the river, my daughters 11 and 4 spent each day down there for hours. Morning, noon, afternoon, early evening I think they would have gone without food if we allowed. The river was not deep for most parts except at the rapids which they stayed a few feet from. They never had issue with the water, they never got pulled down stream or under water, the only thing that happen which to me was funny but not to my 11 year old was she fell out of her tube and lost her Cheer Wine and we watched it float down the river never to be seen by us again. It was one of those family things that you would have had to be here to understand.

Now here's a story, I lost my glasses when I jumped in and new that was the end to them. Well the next day my 11 year old was using her diving goggles and found my glasses stuck between two rocks. I was so happy for many reasons, one she saved my money, I could see again, and that she felt great for being the one to find them. She got a hung, a kiss, and a new bottle of Cheer Wine of her own.

God Bless
