About Chris Simpson
This is a family home that we have enjoyed since 1968. We have loved spending winters skiing here and summers swimming in the lake. It is often used for family reunions with members coming from as far away as California. We have just begun sharing the wonderful peace of our home with renters. I am a retired school teacher who lives nearby and manages the property for my family.
Chris Simpson purchased this Cabin in 1969
Why Chris Simpson chose Wilmington
The proximity to the metropolitan areas in the northeast make for easy access to this property. The local community of Wilmington, Vermont is friendly and has a wide variety of activities and amenities. Lake Raponda is a charming and peaceful spot. A place to enjoy nature, a truly Vermont experience. Ducks, Otters, Beavers, Kingfishers, Loons and Great Blue Herons are among the wildlife viewed from the lakeside porch. There is a variety of outdoor activities right outside the door, including swimming, hiking and ice skating in winter.
What makes this Cabin unique
The living room of the cabin offers an antique Estey organ and an upright piano that you can enjoy playing and singing along to. Our cabin on the lake, is the place we come to in order to unplug from all the stresses of life. We have had family reunions here for 40 years, and a three weddings too! Our favorite pastime is just sitting on the porch and watching all the activity on the lake after a nice brisk hike along the nearby trails. In the evening we enjoy being together as a family playing a variety of board games and puzzles, which are available at the cabin.

Charming lake house in a private location! Took the canoe out on the water several times and loved watching our dogs dip in and out of the water! Had difficulty getting the wifi to work, but in the end it didn't matter much since we spent most of our time outside by the water.
Thank you for the input on the wifi. We have worked all the bugs out of the system and it works fine.
We had a wonderful time at this cabin. Everything was perfect.
We had a wonderful long weekend at this cabin. The house is full of warmth, and so comfortable. The lake was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting on the porch both morning and evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back. What a lovely place.
Beautiful lakeside cottage!
I loved our stay on Lake Raponda. The cottage is fairly spacious and very beautiful in a somewhat rustic sort of way. We hosted a big family reunion from this house and two other rentals in the area in August. There was plenty of room to cook for and feed 25 people and hang out on the incredible porch. I sat on that porch just looking out at the lake for hours. We also canoed all over the lake. A lovely vacation. The only negative is that the walls are quite thin. From our bedroom, we could hear every little sound from the bedroom next door. Otherwise perfect.
Idyllic Cabin with Resorative Properties!
We were charmed with this property from the moment we arrived. The 1924 log cabin is full of artifacts from a time gone by. The cabin is spacious and over the course of 10 days we sometimes had two people there and sometimes 7. The additional 1/2 bath was nice to have. The living room was spacious with three sofas and there was a kitchen table as well as a game table. The outdoor porch overlooking the Lake was our favorite spot and we loved sitting, reading, and eating there, especially at the golden time of day from late afternoon into the evening. We all appreciated the piano and organ and spent some hours playing on both throughout our time there. The neighborhood around the lake is very friendly as are the ducks, the loons, and the bullfrogs who serenaded us nightly. We also saw a beaver several times swimming by. That end of Lake Raponda is quiet and has some plant life which is tricky to swim through. We all love to swim and would either just make our way through or use our kayak or paddle board to go the short distance to clear waters. It is a beautiful lake. The area has lots to do- mountain climbing, antiquing, fishing, kayaking, but my favorite activity was just hanging out at the cabin. There is no tv or DVD player, but the wifi service is decent if you need it. Chris was very responsive to all questions and concerns and met us on the day we arrived. Wish we didn't have to leave!
The most wonderful month of July
Spent the most wonderful full month of July on the bucolic lake with our whole family including 4 grandchildren. The large porch overlooking the lake was our relaxing roost from morning coffee and yoga to evening sunsets and campfires at the lake's edge. The kids still talk about playing the piano, organ, and their first rotary phone and record player. Every game they played and the different duck families that visited daily are fond memories. Wilmington has everything from the weekly flea market, gourmet restaurants, great diner, and Wahoo 's root beer floats. What a great summer we had!
Quintessential log cabin on Lake Raponda, VT
Wonderful log cabin for a get away from it all vacation. The porch was so inviting it was hard to do anything else but rock and look out at the lake! Be wary of the stone steps however, even in the warmer months. Chris, the owner, was very helpful, prompt in her responses to email, and even met us at at the cabin when we arrived.
