About Gwen Albers
We purchased the Moonshiner Cabin in 2013. Two years later, my husband, Bob and I, gave up our 30-plus-year careers in aviation and journalism, respectively, to become caretakers on a 45,000-acre ranch in New Mexico. The goal was to get closer to my 87-year-old mother while trying something different. The move gave us the opportunity to share our home in Bryson City -- a place we plan to retire to one day. We appreciate Bryson City for its rivers, boating, fishing, hiking, scenery, people and tranquility. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we have.

Spectacular experience. Recommend to anyone!
What a wonderful cabin! Views were lovely and the hot tub was perfect. Loved the loft with the two upstairs beds and connecting catwalk! Big bed downstairs was super comfy. Close to Bryson City, Franklin, NOC, and Smoky Mountains National Park. Washer and Drier in bathroom super convenient (no need to pack a lot of clothes). Plenty of heat to keep us toasty while watching TV or playing games on the big throw rug. We will definitely come back!
Moonshiners Cabin was PERFECT!! Everything we wanted for a weekend getaway!
Cozy cabin, private, quiet, peaceful, beautiful Mountain views, perfect for a romantic getaway, beautiful wood craftsmanship inside and out, all the comforts you need already stocked in the home. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back again.
Love our stay at Moonshiners Cabin. Would love to stay there again
Fantastic cabin in Bryson City!
My family and I spent last weekend at the Moonshiner Cabin while we were in the area for the fall colors and the PEANUTS™ Pumpkin Patch Express. The cabin is absolutely stunning and made for some great memories for us. Don't let the driveway up the hill scare you, because once you get to the top, you will be very glad you did. The cabin is immaculate, very comfortable, has a wide-open floorpan along with a first floor bed and 2 really cool nook beds upstairs. The cabin has a hot tub, fire pit out back and offers a great filtered view of the mountains. It was so peaceful and relaxing ... it was hard to leave. We will definitely look to stay here again when we come back next year for the fall colors and the Pumpkin Patch Express.
Miserable vacation home.
No lighting in the kitchen and had to use flashlight to fix anything. Someone left a flashlight with dead batteries but thankfully we had one with us. Double bed too little and unable to climb steps so ended up on the couch. TV was Amazon stick so most all was pay per view and wi-fi was spotty at best. Miserable vacation so left a day early. Should have stayed in a motel with conveniences.
A nice place to relax and have contact with nature.
This cabin is a very cozy and perfect to spend a few days in direct contact with nature. Very well equipped, clean and comfortable to observe stars and have walkings in the surroundings. If you love to get a peaceful time and to get a break from work, this is the place. When my wife and I need to reenergize again, I know we would like to return.
This secluded home sits on three wooded acres 10 minutes from Bryson City's Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and Polar Express, 20 minutes from Cherokee and the casino, and 30 minutes from the Tail of the Dragon. The Nantahala Gorge, which features hiking, whitewater rafting, kayaking and zip-lining is 7 minutes away. Bryson City offers a very quaint downtown with locally-owned shops and restaurants, including the Nantahala Brewery and the Swain County Heritage Museum.
