About Larry Kurbel

Owner in the Resort since 1999 (own adjacent 3 season cabin), love Boulder Junction! Acquired this 4-season cabin in the fall of 2014 to enjoy Boulder Jct year- round!

Larry Kurbel purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Larry Kurbel chose Northeast

Great location on very quiet Boulder Lake! Conveniently located only 1 mile to the town of Boulder Junction, great shopping and restaurants all close by. Paved bike trails are less than a mile away and local and state snowmobile trails intersect the entrance to our Resort of lakefront cabins.

What makes this cabin unique

With only 1 public boat launch and nearly 70% of the lakeshore in its pristine (uninhabited) natural state, Boulder Lake is peaceful even during peak seasonal events! The cabin offers an outstanding view from the family room bay window which is frequently enhanced by Eagle sightings a mere 30-40 feet away as they drop from their perch!

Basic. comfort

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is cute and comfortable. The kitchen is adequate for nightly cooking. They have made good use of small spaces. Providing a bath mat would be helpful. Another light in far corner of living room would also be great as it is quite dark. Great fireplace.

Fantastic stay in the North Woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay. The cabin was clean and very comfortable. Loved every minute of our stay. The description was very accurate, but was even more beautiful in person. I could not have asked for better service and communication. Directions were outstanding, cabin was comfortable, and boat was great. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy the North Woods.

Boulder was slow during the week (expected) with the Headwaters having great menu selections and fast service for dinner. We ate our lunches on the water and had breakfast out one time at the Outdoorsman - it was great. The cabin kitchen came fully supplied and cooking dinner was a snap. The outdoor grill was a quality Weber unit that did a really good job on steaks and burgers.

Very good visit and we are already planning our return trip.

Great location, not so great cabin

  • 2 of 5

The location is very close to town and other attractions. The lake is very clean and great for swimming. However, I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the cabin. I was told that the mattress pads aren't washed between guests and we found seeds on top of the mattress. The linens provided weren't appropriate for the season. The pictures are deceiving, no real usable porch. The cabin has great potential but needs a little work.

Owner's Response: For clarity, guest indicated they were allergic to the mattress pad (we have a foam topper for extra comfort on the king bed), that is what doesn't get washed, suspect a misunderstanding. All linens are changed after every guest. One of 3 twin beds was used, the only one that had a flannel sheet, guest chose to use that bed and then noted it was out of season (spare sheets were also in the closet). Guest complained about no ice cube trays, no less than 3 exist in cabinet. Guest requested a $100 refund, I offered a free night for a future stay, follow up response indicated they wouldn't give a favorable review (no surprise here). Pictures and cleanliness of cabin are as reflected in photos, with the exception of the refrigerator, which was replaced the Friday before this guest arrived.

Relax on a beautiful Northwoods lake !

  • 5 of 5

We just returned and we miss it already. Located on Boulder Lake, every morning and evening was a beautiful setting to begin and end the day. The cabin is very nice - very up north feel. It is small but it is great for a small number of people - it was just two of us so we had plenty of room. Comfortable sitting area and nice large table for eating meals. I wish the screened in porch had more comfortable sitting area - it's more for storing fishing supplies, etc.The kitchen was adequately stocked although we go out a lot so we hardly use it so I am not a great judge of that ! The owners do supply a starter supply of things - bring your own towels and hand towels. Kitchen towels were supplied but no dishcloths. The bathroom is small but fine. The setting is great. Right on the lake with spectacular views. There are cabins all around but we had no one staying around us except in the owners other small cabin but not an issue at all. You have separate docks , etc. Very close to town but far enough away where everything was quiet. Great location as a base - we went to many lakes, waterfalls (in Michigan within an hour), beautiful biking and hiking trails. The sunsets were gorgeous at the cabin and we saw lots of deer, blue jays, and heard the loons two nights, never actually saw them as it was dark. If you want it, internet connection was good, cell service was good (Verizon) at the cabin. We will book again w/o hesitation.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback on the screen porch, we'll work to change that up!
