A neighborhood that best describes the way of being of "Roman" and able to fall in love all those who visit it: Trastevere.
Everything you need, Trastevere, is able to offer it.
It 's the heart of Rome and Romans.
Advice number one: get lost in every alley of the neighborhood and be amazed at every turn. :)
Trastevere is a central and characteristic neighborhood. Full of shops, bars and restaurants, its narrow streets are alive day and night. You can travel on foot to the most interesting places or take tram. 8 to Piazza Venezia or one of the many buses that lead from the Tiber to the Vatican and other attractions. You can climb on the Janiculum and enjoy a spectacular view of Rome or start the day with breakfast at one of the local coffee shop. In the adjacent square you will find the neighborhood market, a pharmacy, even gluten free restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream and all that will be useful.
