About the property

Classic 18th C. one bedroom apt, just renovated - sleeps 4, close to river

Bordeaux de la Rousselle is an elegant, gracious apartment in the heart of historic Bordeaux. It is located in a quiet street, close to restaurants, shops and transport.

It has been recently renovated and has many high quality fittings. The bedroom has a King size bed with real linen sheets, and one of the sofas in the living room folds out to become a double bed which can sleep two guests.

Built in the eighteenth century, Bordeaux de la Rousselle has high ceilings and ornate period details, such as stained glass windows in the bedroom, and decorative plasterwork. The floors are polished oak, there two leather Chesterfield sofas in the living room; an antique round dining table which folds out to seat four people, and a King size bed with real linen sheets. There is a modern kitchen with a microwave and dishwasher, and a stylish bathroom with a rain-shower head shower.

Excellent location and apartment

  • 4 of 5

The property is charming and has recently been completely renovated. It is also well located for central/old Bordeaux and relatively quiet.

Charlotte, the agent, is particularly helpful with tips and recommendations. We particularly enjoyed the 6pm saxophone recital from the apartment opposite - he's a nice guy and well worth engaging with if the opportunity arises.

Our only negative observation is that the communal area is rather tired and needs to be upgraded.

The apartment was lovely - a few extra touches would make it magnificent.

  • 3 of 5

The apartment is really well situated with easy access to the old part of Bordeaux. We were met by Fleur, Charlotte's daughter who showed us around the apartment. The bedroom is very quiet as it faces the stairwell (those with mobility issues be aware - there are 41 steps to go up which are fairly uneven). The large French doors open up onto a small terrace - just across the street is a music studio and we were treated to a saxophonist every evening - lovely to share a glass of wine listening to him/her.

However, there are a few things which would make this apartment exceptional. The kitchen is not well equipped - no tin opener, no garlic press - simple things that could make a big difference. Even though you don't want to be cleaning whilst on holiday, a dry mop would have been great for sweeping through as all the floors are wood and crumbs inevitably accumulate. The information folder is poor - very little info on the surrounding area - how to find the nearest supermarket, where the nearest bars/restaurants are and what Bordeaux has to offer. Whilst it does become obvious when you've been out and about, a little effort in the welcome folder would be really helpful. We've stayed in places where the owners have left info with suggestions of where to go, what to see etc and this would have been really useful here.

All in all, we loved Bordeaux and had a fabulous holiday staying in this apartment - we just think with a few little extras, this apartment could have been so much better.

Lovely apartment in Bordeaux

  • 4 of 5

We travelled to Bordeaux from Paris via TGV. The directions we were given to get from the train station to the apartment were excellent.

We were met at the apartment, which looks exactly as shown on the website. Comfy leather sofas in the living room, great bathroom with an excellent shower, comfortable bedroom with lots of space. The kitchen is compact but definitely workable. We love to cook while we're on vacation. A couple of the pots have no lids, which made it a tad tricky.

The street is relatively quiet. Great night's sleep! The fellow across the way is quite the musician (saxophone). Quite enjoyed his playing-jazz standards, etc.

Bordeaux is a very easy city to get around. The tram system is great, although we walked everywhere. Closer than you think to the Golden Triangle.

Saw in the New Year!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely historic feel apartment, good and warm, but would be cool in the summer with 2 lovely big double doors onto terrace. Not too many stairs up, good lighting in stairwell, best bed and bed linens of any place stayed, good hot water and pressure (shower not as small as looks), comfy sofas, good WiFi, good tv and video, washing machine unexpected! Couple of bottles of wine left for us were really appreciated! Good to have coffee pods, oil, seasoning and few extras left fantastic.

Out of apartment and turn right and hit Victor Hugo. Turn left for river and 10 mins walk on left to bourse palace and a great row of fabulous restaurants. Turn right on river and 20 mins walk to Train station and trips to St Emillion, fab day out 18e return. Go at midday and return 5pm. Great lunch and historic town.

Out of apartment turn right and right on Victor Hugo and 10 mins to HUGE supermarket or little ones within 2 mins/and loads of good takeaways. Supermarket opposite car park with the car flying out of it!

Out of apartment turn left for loads of good drinking bars and historic lanes, shops and wandering. We loved the location. We loved Bordeaux.

The place was quiet, we slept well, bar New Years Eve obviously!!

Would very much recommend location.

Owners helpful, especially 're ordering taxi for us on New Years Day and when we thought we had left phone.

Thank you for the use of your place!!

Lovely 1 Bedroom in a great neighbourhood

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in here for our 8 day visit to Bordeaux city and found the apartment to be very comfortable and in a great location.

Charlotte (property manager) was very helpful and since this was the first time the apartment had been rented out she was very responsive to the few odds & ends we needed that were not already provided in the apartment. She also had some excellent recommendations for restaurants & local sights.

The bedroom is very spacious and the bed (and linens) were very comfortable. The bedroom faces the inner stairwell so there was minimal street noise. The bathroom (like the entire apartment) is newly renovated, clean, and has a great shower w/ a waterfall shower head. The living room has two leather sofas that are perfect for stretching out in with a book & a glass of wine. The kitchen is on the small side, but definitely worked for our breakfasts & lunches. There are so many great places to eat within walking distance that I didn't get a chance to use the kitchen to make dinner, but it's well equipped and efficient.

We really loved the location. It's just a short walk around the block to the riverfront, and about equidistant to either the Marche Capucins or to the Bourse de la Palace. My wife found it an easy walk over to Rue Catherine for the shopping, and we both walked along the river and through the Chartrons district.
