Cozy beach house style room

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for five nights while I found more permanent accommodation before I moved to the area. It suited all of our needs for a short term visit. The location near UCSD was ideal and access to the 5 was easy. The ceiling fan needs to be balanced so that it makes less noise, however, a floor fan was included with the room that circulated air just fine making the loud ceiling fan a non-issue. We enjoyed the private patio nearly every night. I would easily stay here again for the price.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying here. Once again, clean and all ready for us. Great location. I love having a backyard to be able to go out and relax at. With having 2 kids in college at SDSU, this is becoming our place to stay when visiting. I highly recommend staying here!

Great location close to paragliding, kayaking, biking

  • 4 of 5

This unit is essentially a large bedroom + living area connected to the main house. The bathroom is spacious with plenty of counter space and a very large shower. The manager, Brenda, could not have been nicer. She was responsive to our needs and even went out of her way to buy a fly swatter for us (there was just one fly in the room, not a big deal but hard to get without a swatter). There's a large flat-screen TV with Apple TV. The bed was comfortable, although the sheets could use an upgrade - they were just a little rough, not very soft. Following are some things to keep in mind. The "kitchenette" is not really a kitchen and doesn't have a real kitchen sink - it's a laundry room with a utility sink, a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and essential dishes. Also, because the washer/dryer are in the "kitchenette," it's made available to the people renting the main house, so the kitchenette/laundry room is not totally private. But there's a door between that room and the rest of the guest quarters that can be closed to ensure privacy when using the rest of the unit. There is no air conditioning in this unit. Well, technically there is, but there are no controls for it in the guest quarters, so it has to be controlled by the people staying in the main house, and the owner has it "hard coded" so that it will not run unless the inside temperature rises above 72 degrees. For me, that's too warm for sleeping, and I would have liked to be able to run the A/C according to my own preferences, in particular during the night for good sleeping. There are plenty of windows to open, and the first night it eventually got cool enough to sleep well, but it was too warm at first (while trying to fall asleep), and the other two nights we were too warm all night long. Brenda offered to contact the owners to see if they would override the 72-degree threshold, but that seemed too bothersome to me, and since the first night eventually got cool enough, I told her it was okay. But as I said, the next two nights were too warm even with the windows open all night long. The other negative of having no A/C is that there is a significant amount of outdoor noise to keep you awake when the windows are open. The next-door neighbors like to sit outside and talk fairly loudly well after 10:00, which is when I go to bed. There was also a barking dog, intermittently. So not the best sleeping environment, but the unit is in a great location close to many activities.

Owner's Response: We are always striving to improve the property and the experience for our guests but the property is converted from student housing to a short term rental during the summer months only so it isn't perfect. We market it accordingly with the kitchenette/laundry room as shared and we also most importantly, price the room accordingly, We hope that our guests remember the "value" and what they got for the price.

Beautiful location, cozy and well equipped bungalow

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this home with my 2 teenage children and was very pleased and impressed. Not only was the bungalow very clean and well-maintained, it came with a lot of 'extras' that you can't experience in a hotel. The owner keeps a shed stocked with boogie boards, sand toys, beach chairs and even a tandem bicycle. The backyard is large and includes the use of a hot tub and a grill. The house is located near the top of a hill which provided beautiful sunset views and places to walk/jog. We enjoyed evenings on the beach at LaJolla shores, and breakfast at the Shorehouse Kitchen. We were also close enough to visit Sea World, the Zoo, and downtown. Brenda, the owner, was very helpful and available via text and email prior to our stay as well as during it. I would highly recommend this home to vacationing couples or small families.

Cozy & clean

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great. It was as described. Everything was clean. It was great having the use of the backyard. So much better than a hotel! I loved being able to have my coffee in the morning. Brenda was great at keeping in contact with me and let me know that I was able to stay longer. I wish we could have! We would definitely stay there again.
