About Charlotte Maynard

My father bought our home in 1958 and we continue to use it for a ski house. our children (age 12, 9, 4) ski race so we use the house most weekends, we live and work in Boston. In the summer we love the ocean, so rarely use the house in the summer

Charlotte Maynard purchased this house in 1958

What makes this house unique

The 2,000 acres it boarders is the best part, but also the fact that the kids and I can wander down to the village easily, go on great runs, and access all that waitsfield valley has to offer. It si also a stop for the shuttle that takes you around the village and then to the sugarbush resort

Guestbook comments from the manager

I recently had this guest in our house. Our ski house is a 4 bedroom house that sleeps 12 adjacent to 2000 acres of preserved forest and within walking distance to a quaint Vermont village. We were asking the whopping price of $92.85/night for 7 nights! This guest showed up and complained about the following:

The sponge was not new, the vacuum clean was in the downstairs bedroom instead of hidden, each bed was not made (I provide linens, but they are folded on each bed), the arm of one chair was ratty, one of the overhead lights was uneven, the landscaping was not to their liking, they could not "play frisbee" in the yard (which is a field BTW) and there was evidence of mice. The last issue was the only reasonable issue and, yes, even when I am there for ski season, I can find the occasion evidence of mice. The rest of the issues were ridiculous. Despite the fact that they reserved a whole week, they asked for their money back. I said fine, I do not need the money and do not want an unhappy tenant in my home, but then they decided to spend the night and use the internet, and THEN they demanded ALL their money back. I said I would charge them the one-night rate ($200) plus cleaning and then give them a $50 discount. They were incensed. When my cleaning lady showed up after they left they had moved a ton of stuff around, but most disturbing, they turned all my family photos face down?!??

Very rustic, out of date

  • 2 of 5

For skiers and outdoor bikers and hikers this may be the perfect place. Very rustic and sleeps 12 . Great price if you fill to capacity, BUT only 1 bathroom

On the plus side - close to our wedding venue, good heat, plenty of hot water, large kitchen table for gathering, WIFI access, plenty of towels and linens, but no washcloths

On the negative side - needs to be refreshed, stuff cleared out of kitchen (old staples left in cupboards, under sink) kind of weird having used toiletries left all over bathroom, toilet seat broken, moldy coffee & filter left in machine, staircase up stairs not for the faint of heart, outside needs to be picked up (styro foam food packets from chicken left near shed?), needs sign or number at bottom of road to locate easier, leak on porch. Mattresses on most beds not the best. Wall and ceiling lighting ??? We would have liked some chairs for outside sitting or on the porch and a sheet of directions on how to leave the place.

We had a great weekend as we didn't spend much time at the house - farmers market, craft fair, wedding...and we were able to house some extra friends in a pinch. But it was not the place to completely relax for any length of time.

Quirky and fun property, comfortable and clean

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 stayed here for 2 weeks in August, 2017. We loved the older, comfortable, lived-in feel of the place - soooooo much better than a cold, impersonal hotel! We cooked for local relatives a few times, and had plenty of pans and dishes, etc for all. The sloping garden is pretty, and the location is perfect - quiet and hidden but close to town and amenities.

This is a cosy home, a little worn in places, but has been updated a little since the photos (the living room chairs and couch are newer than those shown). The views are pretty, and there's an abundance of birds visit the trees here... my favorite was the Red Cardinal that visited most mornings!

We had a great holiday and would recommend this house to most people. (People with compromised mobility would struggle with the steps to the front door).

Cute, old house with lots of beds!

  • 4 of 5

As advertised this is an old farmhouse, but clean and cute and perfect for families are large groups. They made such good use of space in the bedrooms, putting beds everywhere! 2 bathrooms, but 1 is just a toilet. But it worked out fine. Big yard for kids to run around. There actually is a pack n play though host wasn't sure.

We went in summer and I do wish there were fans there as it got really hot upstairs!

Overall the place was perfect for our weekend and 2 toddlers. I do wish the host was a little quicker to respond by email, though she did respond quickly to texts. It would be nice to have things like the Wi-Fi pw, location of garbage drop off, etc written down also.

Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Perfect place for a group to call home base during an adventure weekend. Plenty of parking, warm and cosy, well stocked with board games, what more could we ask? As others have stated, it's not fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. The house is pretty hidden from the road so I'd recommend arriving during the daytime if possible in order to see where you're going.

Perfect post wedding!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and the groomsmen used the place for a guys evening the night before our wedding and then we stayed there the night of the wedding along with a bunch of friends who didn't want to make the drive back to Burlington. It was perfect.

It's not fancy, but it is cozy and charming with lots of (very comfortable) beds. Would definitely stay there again. Thanks!
