Family vacation in a gorgeous home!

  • 5 of 5

Great house enjoyed by 3 generations - lots of tools, pots and pans, etc in kitchen. The house was very clean and so large that we were never tripping over each other. The front deck with the Gulf view was greatly enjoyed. We would definitely rent this house again. We had the elevator and you need to be aware that the elevator can be finicky! The only things that would make this house better would be a second refrigerator on the first floor and an ice maker!

A beautiful home near to the beach

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with extended family totaling 14 people. We found the house beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotless. This home exceeded our expectations. We had everything we needed. The kids especially loved the bunk room. The main floor bedrooms were nice for the older grandparent. The master bedroom is beautiful-waking to a view of the sunrise over the beach (as long as the lots across the street are empty. Once housed are built there, the view will be obstructed)

The location was perfect with a view of the beach and the dune crossing about half a block away. We were pleased that the beach here is clean and lacking of the Portguese Men of War found on other Galveston beaches. The beach club had something for everyone from the hot tub, the bar/restaurant, pools, beach access and fitness center. It was a short drive from the house.

The one thing to be aware of is the white furniture is the living room. Guests are asked to be especially careful in the furniture (no food/drink, wet swim suits or even brightly colored clothes that may bleed). Keep this in mind with young children.

Wonderful house, much better than anticipated!

  • 5 of 5

to be honest, the pictures on the website do not do the house justice. first of all, its huge. bedrooms all spacious and laid out well. kitchen was incredibly well stocked with "tools" and etc. need a wine bottle opener? there's 5 to choose from. whisk? plastic or metal? glasses a plenty, two different coffee makers, large pantry to put your dry foods, plates, etc etc. deck(s) plural, were awesome, plenty of room for our whole crew (three families with kids). mud room type area on lower level to keep coolers and stuff you don't want to leave outside, but don't really want to take inside either. beach club minutes away. beach access (walking) was three houses down. the "issue" in other reviews about the bunk room was a non-issue for our stay as it cooled off quickly and the 4 kids that stayed in there slept like logs. would recommend to anyone!

Beautiful house but several issues

  • 2 of 5

My family booked this house for our annual beach trip. We need 6 bedrooms and an elevator and there are very few properties that meet our needs. The house is beautiful, but there are several issues, some of a very serious (life safety) nature that need to be addressed by the property manager or owners.

- The 6th bedroom is not a proper bedroom. International Residential Building Code adopted in 2006 requires that all bedrooms have a window as a mean of egress in the event of a fire or other emergency. This room does not have windows and cannot legally be listed as a bedroom. Beyond that, the AC doesn't work properly in there so it's hot as Hades sleeping at night. Had we known this was the case, we would never have booked this house.

- There was no fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Another serious life safety concern that is easy to remedy.

- The AC broke during our stay. The upstairs unit was under warranty and the warranty company could not be reached to come out and service it. We thought it was still running and just dripping water (which we carefully collected to avoid floor damage) due to a broken drain pan but as our last night wore on, it got hotter and hotter, especially in the 3rd floor "bedroom" (which is not a bedroom).

- There were two pieces of broken furniture on the main deck. Both of them were broken in a way that our elderly family member could have fallen and seriously injured herself if she had tried to sit on them not knowing they were broken.

- The French door from the main deck to the living area is installed incorrectly, causing it to sag in the door frame. It is nearly impossible to open and we were worried about the glass shattering from the stress of it sticking.

- Several of the blinds are broken. The blinds have really tricky mechanisms to raise and lower and they break easily if you are not very careful with them.

I brought all of these issues (especially the fire extinguisher) to the attention of the property manager during our stay and they seemed unconcerned. I also repeated my concerns about the 6th "bedroom" (which is not a bedroom), the lack of fire extinguisher, and the broken HVAC when I turned in the keys at the end of my stay and the clerk in the rental office seemed unconcerned.

The house is beautiful and nicely furnished, but all of these issues are a major accident waiting to happen so I cannot recommend this house to anyone unless these issues are all addressed and the house is safe.

Owner's Response: We try our best to resolve each and every issue that might arise during a guests stay. The AC (which also services the 3rd floor sleeping area) broke during the guests stay. We were unable to have the AC repaired in a timely manner and the guests were offered alternate accommodations which they declined. The AC has been repaired and does function properly on all levels of the home. The blinds are a Hunter Douglas single loop shade and all were functioning. The same with the french door. The owner has provided a detailed home manual which goes over how to operate everything in the home, including blinds and doors. This was in the home during their stay. We have changed the verbiage of the 3rd floor sleeping area and no longer list this as a bedroom, however the "building code" does not apply since this home is not for sale. Many of the issues could have been remedied with a call to our office, but were not addressed until check-out.
