Beautiful cabin in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cabin, perfect for our 2 families of 5 people each! Beds are comfortable, fire pit is nice, owners were very accommodating! Location is perfect, central to all the major SD attractions. Can't really see the pond from the cabin & wish there were more kitchen & bath towels provided, but other than that everything was perfect!

Very cute cabin in a great location. Nice property around the cabin for kids.

  • 4 of 5

When you drive up to the property, you can see the care and thought that has gone in to it. There is a circle drive, nice fire pit with furniture, gazebo overlooking a pond. The cabin is super cute and decorated intentionally to feel homey. Lots of beds to pick from. My son loved sleeping in the loft. Two of my teen girls shared a main floor bedroom and the other teen had the other main floor bedroom to herself. My husband and I took the top floor master. We didn't use the basement beds. The basement is significantly cooler than the rest of the home and of course no view out windows.

The cabin is literally 5 minutes from downtown Custer and we went for ice cream every night at the Purple Pie Place. The location is central to Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, Wind and Jewel Cave.

The cabin also has a hot tub. Nearby there are rocks and boulders to climb just for fun.

The only draw back to the cabin is the limited space for food prep in the kitchen and not one cabinet to put away food purchased for our stay. So it was tricky making meals. However for those that aren't interested in cooking during their stay, there are plenty of restaurants within 5 minutes of the cabin.

Overall, we loved our stay and would come again in the future.

The best family vacation we have ever had

  • 5 of 5

This place is beautiful! We had the best vacation we have ever had. So many great tourist attractions to visit during the day and a calming/relaxing home base in the evening and early morning. Sitting in the hot tub, making smores with the kids, seeing wildlife and finding Zen while sitting by the lake creates an environment where everyone was able to get along. Plenty of space to spend time together or escape if spending time with family became overwhelming😉?. We even saw a flying squirrel while sitting by there campfire! Something this outdoor family had never seen before. Being able to cook at the home saved us tons of money...we had 12 people ranging from 10 years old to 72! Thank you soooo much for the great memories!

Nice place, just missing a few things that made it not perfect.

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is set in beautiful country. The kitchen was well stocked with everything but soaps and paper towels. I did contact the owner and more was provided. Bedrooms were nice. Better for the younger crowd. Mattress are uncomfortable. The main reason for the 3 stars is I found communication on the Home away application was not updated. I would receive emails and point me to the application for information and nothing was updated. I would recommend this for young families.

Nice property

  • 4 of 5

Nice place. Had 8 of us and slept comfortable. would have been nice if there was a big TV (only a small one) and would have been nice to have cable or dish network or direct TV. Over all was a nice stay and beautiful scenery

Very nice - wonderful porches, outside seating, hot tub and fire-pit, conveniently located

  • 4 of 5

This is a very nice property close to Custer but secluded enough to have privacy and plenty of room to roam. We stayed here with our 3 adult children and their spouses and were quite comfortable. The master bedroom is large and comfortable, the other bedrooms were smaller but adequate and as with the entire house, are nicely decorated. We rented the main house (3 bedrooms + one in basement there is comfortable daybed so equals 4 bedrooms). The owner has additional - very nice and spacious - bedrooms, one each, in lofts above the garages (there are 2 large garages). There are no bathrooms in the garages so anyone using them will have to go into house to freshen up.

The house is flooded with natural light that allows one to enjoyed the beautiful Black Hills setting. The downside to this is, the security light outside shines fully into the bedrooms and the sun comes up very early. We adjusted easily to this but if you think it would bother you, bring eye-shades.

It was wonderful to have 2 large garages available. We didn't end up using them but if one of South Dakota's hail storms would have come up - we would have.

The owner is close and is very accommodating. The house is close to Custer. If you fly in like we did, it is easy to get needed groceries, etc. We were very comfortable in this lovely house and location. The kitchen is small and short of counter space and there is only room for 6 at the table. This wasn't a big deal for us - we just ate breakfast and cooked supper a couple of nights but if you plan of cooking often for a large group, it would be challenging. There is plenty of outside seating with 2 picnic tables. The kitchen had a very nice supply of pot, pans, spices, etc. There is no dishwasher - we used mostly paper plates.

There's so much to do in the Black Hills and this house is a nice place to relax after a day of sight-seeing, hiking, rock climbing, etc.

Overall we recommend this property and will stay there again when our travels take us back to the Black Hills.
