About Tina Buchanan

We are Rex and Tina, the owners of Driftwood Getaway. Although we live in Portland, the Oregon Coast, specifically Rockaway, is our second home. I was raised in the Aloha area but, I visited my grandparents here almost every weekend growing up and when Rex entered my life, this town became a second home for him, too. In fact - we were married here! We really enjoy the beautiful stretch of beach here, as well as the surrounding mountains. The town is quiet, not too busy even when busy on the holidays, and is a casual place to get away from our work lives. I am a Sign Language Interpreter and Rex is a Real Estate agent and Architect. We have a new son and are excited to make the coast a special place for him, too. Our dog already loves it here.

Tina Buchanan purchased this house in 2013

Why Tina Buchanan chose Rockaway Beach

A couple of years ago we began searching for a house to make into a beach home. We wanted a place to bring our future kids so that they could have the great beach experience I had growing up. The opportunity to turn it into a business was also in the forefront of our minds. We knew it would be our home but also a rental. The search was on to find a house that we felt was the "one". I remember seeing this house on a Saturday morning. From the outside - we really didn't think this was the "one". A little tall and boxy was my thought. But, the inside was playing another tune. It was dry, clean, and full of potential - THREE master bedrooms and an extra bathroom! TWO blocks from the beach! Open and a wrap around deck! So it was stuck in the 70's - with Rex's skill as an architect, we could transform this place into what we wanted. So we set out to do just that. The fact that we could accomodate three couples or families with their own masters was a real deciding factor for us. The clean lines and location were a bonus. We offered, negotiated, closed and started construction.

What makes this house unique

Really, I see the benefits in the layout of the house. Three bedrooms, each with a toilet and shower room and a vanity/dresser - not a typical set up in a beach rental. The wide open kitchen is perfect for feeding big groups. The great room is a nice gathering place. The wrap around deck is THE spot to catch the breeze, see pockets of ocean and gaze at the mountains. Not to mention the fact that star gazing is AMAZING at night! The shore pines on either sing with bird calls and you can spot several species.

Driftwood Getaway is located in the Nedonna Beach area in the north end of Rockaway Beach. Nedonna Beach is quiet, has minimal traffic and easy beach access. You are not far from town where you will find restaurants, shopping and festivals through out the year. Nedonna Beach is on the end of the 7 mile stretch of beautiful beach and terminates at the Jetty - the mouth of the Nahalem Bay. Walk the beach, watch fisherman from the jetty, watch the sea lions and seal steal the salmon from the fisherman. Close by are many activities - hiking, surfing, crabbing, deep sea fishing, antiquing, etc.

special and quiet - close to beautiful beach.

We felt the rental description should have mentioned there are no closets available. Also, there are very steep stairs leading to living area which are difficult for an older person. Also, the fridge is not hooked up for water and ice and there were no ice trays provided. Generally, we enjoyed our stay. Lovely owners.

Perfect Multi-Family Retreat House

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house for our multi-generational family gathering at the coast. The three bedrooms each had their own bathroom, which meant our three families (2 sets of grandparents and my family with husband and son) had our own spaces, but we could gather in the kitchen and living room for meals and family time. The porch that circles the entire upper floor was delightful. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and utensils. The extra touches from the hosts (toiletries in the bathrooms, extra towels in the drawers, individually wrapped condiments in a tackle box in the kitchen, and bottle of wine when we checked in) were icing on the cake. We will definitely stay here again. Our compliments to the hosts!

Spacious, inviting, private little beach town

  • 5 of 5

We loved It, my favorite was the all wrap around porch, with each bedrooms having their own sliding door leading to it.

The gourmet kitchen is very well equipped to make nice meals. It rain a little bet and it was so nice to curl up on the comfy couch. The beach is 2 minutes away by feet.

Our dog was w us and having the bench and laundry room downstairs was very helpful to have a spot for wet paws to dry. I noticed fire pit in private backyard but didn't use it.

The beach is secluded and quiet. We are planning on coming back! P.S. my husband loved the TV..

Quiet retreat right next to beautiful beach

  • 5 of 5

Rex and Tina were very responsive to our inquiry, and we enjoyed our stay very much. We had our two year old with us and were excited that the baby gate kept the stair worry free. Our favorite moments were from sitting on the wraparound deck and just spending time with each other. It did have wi-fi for those painful moments that I had to work. The beds were comfortable and the whole place was warm and cozy. There was definitely enough room for a large group (8+) to have fun but it was nice for just the 3 of us too. Bring marshmallows for smores and try to walk on the beach every day.

It was a great location for us and plenty of room for our needs.

We enjoyed your creative decorating and we were very comfortable. The only thing we found not working was the ice maker/cold water feature on the refrigerator. We felt it was possible that feature had not yet been connected. Thank you!

Wonderful Oregon Coast Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were three couples in our 60's/70's who travel together every fall. My husband and I retired to New Mexico from the Portland area and really missed going to the coast. We all agreed that would be our destination for this year's trip. We have been using Home Away and have been very happy with the majority of rentals throughout the country. Tina Buchanan's home was no exception. We had a fantastic time and found the house to be very comfortable and well equipped, including a crockpot and an electric grill. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the outdoor grill to work, which could have been user error. The few suggestions we would make are: some type of hooks or wall rack in each bedroom, as there are no closets; one couple suggested heavier curtains in the bedrooms; perhaps better organized large utensils.......everything was there, just difficult to find!

The home is very welcoming and clean......we also had a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. I highly recommend this house. It is also centrally located between Tillamook (the BEST ice cream and cheese) and Cannon Beach (great place for browsing the shops and galleries) !!!!
