Why Richard Dick chose Boothbay Harbor Area

The everchanging view of the ocean and being basically a rocks throw away from the water was a selling point indeed. Also the quiet and serenity that exists here.

If one wishes for seaside shopping. dining and entertainment it is all within a five minute drive.

A perfect 'get away' home

What makes this house unique

Along with a constant view of the islands and the bay we can go walking for 3 minutes, down to the Historic All Saints Church and spend time at the picnic area and dock available there, or go swimming, and see the sights of not only Southport Island but Boothbay as well.

We love to have meals on the deck outside and entertain guests morning to night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful family vacation & very much enjoyed our time at the cottage. Thank you so much!

Great homebase for a family or friends vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Patsy and Richard are wonderful hosts. They are easy to contact and make all directions for your vacation very clear from the beginning. The sunrise in Southport is glorious over Boothbay and makes for the perfect spot to have coffee and bask in the view out on the deck. There are 4 bedrooms so everyone had plenty of room. The living room has comfy furniture for everyone to sit together and the kitchen is full of everything you need to cook and bake.Travel to entertainment, shopping, groceries, or dining is short and easy. We are a family of 6 and we loved our trip.

Wonderful, cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Captains cottage was warm and inviting. The upstairs bedroom had sliding glass doors that let us fall asleep and wake-up to the sound of the ocean. The water was cold, so no swimming for us.

Down the path was a church and we fished off the dock. The cottage was easy to find and it was a short drive to Boothbay Harbor.

Patsy and Richard were great and exceeded my expectations.

Would stay again!!!!

This cottage has a lot of old Maine charm.

  • 4 of 5

The location for this rental is right on the ocean, as described. Nice views. The cottage is stocked very well with linens, dishes, cookware, everything you could imagine. Never had a problem with the wifi or cable. The cottage is well worn but the owners do their best to keep on top of repairs, etc. They are very nice people and very helpful. There are a couple of items worth commenting on; 1) No access to the water or a beach nearby. 2) There is a short hiking path (dirt road) to a historical church but the house next door is not very friendly towards people walking through their yard even though it is supposed to be publicly accessible. 3) Be prepared to be woken up at dawn every day by the fisherman leaving on their lobster boats. We did enjoy watching sunrise everyday but it would have been nice to sleep in during our vacation. 4) People are constantly walking by the cottage on the path so there is very little privacy during the day. 5) The road to/from the cottage is bumpy, with ruts and rocks. Not ideal if you're driving a regular car. Plus you have to drive through the campground to get to the cottage and get to see everyone having fun at the campgrounds' beach, which you will not be able to use. 6) The stairs to the 2nd floor master bedroom are dangerous. It is steep, out of alignment and the stairs are not all the same size. Getting luggage up and down was precarious. It is not safe for kids, the elderly or anyone with any type of physical challenges. I think that this is a great place to use as base for visiting the area, they welcome pets, you can cook your own meals quite easily and Southport Island is beautiful.

Salt air is best

  • 4 of 5

This is a cottage with a lot of unique characteristics. It is situated at the edge of the water, allowing the visitor to sit on the lower deck to witness lobster men and women at work . From the master bedroom you have the advantage of watching the sunrise from the very comfortable king sized bed or outside on the adjoining upper deck. The view from this bedroom is second to none, especially if you appreciate the changing tides, the salt air and the smell of pines on the Maine coast.

The cottage is in need of some repair, but itis clean and filled with linens, towels and kitchen utensils. The only hindrance is the steep stairs to the upper floor, making it difficult fr a small child or elder' s safety . However, there are two bedrooms on the first floor to address this if it is an issue for renters .

Kayaks are available to rent within walking distance, and you have to visit the South Port General Store for their gourmet breakfast pizza.

Great Place for Families

  • 4 of 5

The Captain's Cottage was a great headquarters for our trip to Maine with two young children. The cottage has plenty of room for one or two families. The house is not equipped with modern conveniences (i.e., dishwasher, new furniture, etc.), but it worked fine for us. The views from the master bedroom upstairs were amazing! We enjoyed walking to the All Saints Church beach and playing on the rocks. Also, we rented kayaks from the campsite next door. We all agreed that we should return to Maine for another vacation!
