About Darryl Herzon

I am an avid surfer, surfing California and Hawaii since 1962. I am a retired Motion Picture and television set lighting technician and still an executive board representative for IATSE local 728. My wife and I have been together for 43 years. We have two children and six Grand children.

Besides my family, the Kahonua Hale has been my dream come true and we love sharing our home with new and old guests.

Darryl Herzon purchased this house in 2008

Why Darryl Herzon chose Pahoa

Our home is fantastic and, if you like privacy, being very close to the ocean, experiencing the easterly trade winds, and discovering Hawaii as Hawaii once was, without large crowds and hotels and, you love snorkeling, then this place just might be your escape to paradise. There's no place quite like Kapoho Hawaii.

What makes this house unique

Sits high off the ground to catch the Easterly trades. No need to park outside the community and walk to the tide pools because our guests are allowed to park in our garage and the walk to the tide pools is about 7 minutes. We have cable tv, surround sound, free phone calling to the mainland, 3 outside lanais to choose from, and the house is adorned with fine art works from our late mother, Belle Doris Herzon/Hirschfeld. Google Al Hirschfeld. We offer a full laundry room, lots of view windows, no homes behind us and our block is comprised mainly of all new custom homes. One main benefit that can be verified is that our home for what it is, is priced way below that of any other comparable home in the region. That's because we don't care about making a profit on our home. We care that our home earns enough so we can make sure it's well kept up for our guests. We continue to upgrade every year.

Notes:
Snorkeling, volcano watching as kilahuea is always active and PU U O O volcano is now flowing. Come snorkel at the Kapoho tide pools. This will be an event that will make your whole vacation. Kapoho is a community located at the end of the world. surrounded by papaya farms and orchid ranches, coastal scenic drives. I always tell folks to google or you tube Kapoho. Everyone who comes to Kapoho, so far, has loved Kapoho. It's quite unique and offers so many different things to do and see. There's never any large tourist crowds because in Kapoho we have no resorts. TAT #W12504471-01

Wonderful get away!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a few days here on a 10 day trip to Hawaii in order to take advantage of the tide pools.

House was welcoming, warm and clean. Plenty of room for 6.

Garage a nice feature.

Walked to the tide pools which were amazing. Short drive to Volcanoes and Hilo.

Great spot.

Owner's Response: It is so gratifying when folks like yourself rent our home, basically sight unseen and, you take a chance which could either enhance your Hawaiian holiday vacation or, the opposite. Kathy, myself, Winston and Leilani want to say Mahalo for your kind review and we sincerly hope that like ourselves, when you some day return to our beautiful Island, you'll come visit Kahonua again. As you might know, the art works are from our late mother and my family and I built Kahonua Hale. So Mahalo to you and yours from all of us. Aloha

A family oasis and large retreat in paradise, couldnt ask for more

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed such warm memories, deep relaxation, great food, amazing sounds, and such cherished time-away from the hum and buzz of daily life at this amazing property. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook for a large group, there were many sitting spaces for those that enjoyed the sun and those that preferred the shade or a hammock to nap in or read a book. Everyone had plenty of space and no overcrowding, not even in the bathrooms which had plenty of space. The yard was something to behold and be proud of as a guest, and you could tell it was well-tended. The outside shower provided a quick refreshing wash down after a dip in the tidepools only a brief 5 minute walk down the quiet street. There was little traffic and no human noise to speak of, even during the busiest of weeks on the island. There is so much to do in the vicinity and the owner was more than happy to share all the secrets of the nearby local community to enjoy. The Warm Ponds were not discovered by us until the last day...boy were we missing out!!!!!!!! Beyond words to describe, and only 2 miles down the road, Amazing! The TV's and remotes were too confusing to deal with, but we were not there to watch TV, but rather escape the normal routine on the mainland. The owner was a great host, and provided some local fruit and other small gifts to show appreciation, and his love for his home, and guests is obvious and something to look up to. Thanks for opening your flagship property up to us! We'll be back after exploring a few more adventures, and hope when we do that we're so lucky to find half as nice a place as yours! Always Exploring!~ The Smiths

Lovely house, great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house,. It was very well equipped with kitchen and recreational gear, even bicycles!. We found everything we needed for our month long stay. It is very well situated on a quiet street, and a short walk to the Kapoho tide pools. The house has a great entertainment system, with a huge collection of movies to choose from, as well as an interesting book collection on all kinds of topics. The covered decks were perfect for watching the occasional tropical shower. Any minor issues we had were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The house is very solidly built, and we heard nothing at all from various people staying in the downstairs unit under us. We highly recommend the house and would definitely stay again.

The Kapoho tide pools can be viewed on You Tube. In fact, there's an aerial drone view. Snorkeling is said the be the best on the Islands at the Kapoho Tide pools which our community is host to. A quick walk from our front door. Then there's the on going lava flow from PU' U' O O that is very near us. Or visit Volcano National Park. Just one hour away.

Every Wed. evening come celebrate and party and Uncle Roberts in Kalapana. Great food from local vendors, live band with dancing, fire dancing, home made gifts from local vendors. An incredible experience located at the very end of Highway 137. The red road of Puna.

You can also visit the Pahoa open market place every Sunday and buy fresh home grown veggies.

Come to Mckenzie State Park and pull up a chair and relax while you witness the crashing waves against the cliffs. Come celebrate at Kehena black sand beach. Clothing optional but every Sunday is the open drum circle. Always fun times.

Experience a land with no hotels, motels, large tourist crowds and no traffic or traffic lights. Truly a paradise at the end of the world. Now for the entire month of JUNE 2015, we have discounted our nightly rate to $125 per night for up to four persons.

Our property is quite unique and said to be the nicest home in the community. Since we are so close to the ocean, the Easterly Trade winds blow right off the ocean and into our home. We have a back yard lanai with a peekaboo ocean view, but at night, you'll fall asleep to the sounds of the Gekkos and Coqui frogs. Our home is quite spacious, well maintained. Our nightly rates are very reasonable for this beautiful home. We are also represented in Hawaii by Orchid Property Vacation Rentals. Winston Churchill is our licensed property manager and will be there to make certain all your expectations are met. Upon booking, I'll supply you with Winstons phone number and all information to contact me directly. Come view the on going lava flows of the Pu U O O volcano which continues to flow.
We charge $160.00 per night for two persons. Please add an additional $10.00 per persons over two.
