We recommend spending a day at the nearby Casciana thermal pool in the warm thermal waters that flow from the Mathelda spring filling the two pools, one outdoors and one indoors. The large outdoor pool offers maximum relaxation with its water features, waterfalls, whirlpool points and air jets. Also worth visiting is the ancient castle of Lari which also offers various events during the summer. Moreover, from the end of April until the autumn the cities of art and the ancient villages and Tuscan are animated by events and historical re-enactments full of charm and charm. In addition to the famous Palio di Siena (2 July and 16 August) and the equally famous "Giostra del Saracino" in Arezzo (17 June and 3 September 2017). We advise you not to lose the "June Pisano": -16 June: La Luminara di San Ranieri: thousands of candles (almost one hundred thousand in the last edition) frame the windows and gates of the buildings of the Lungarni, the banks of the many bridges overlooking the river: an incredible show that culminates at midnight with fireworks. To admire the spectacle of lights that reflect on the water is a must walk along the river without forgetting to jump in Piazza dei Miracoli to enjoy the spectacle of the Leaning Tower with thousands of candles lit around the columns of its seven floors up to the bell tower. -June 17 for the patronal feast of San Ranieri takes place "the Palio": after the parade of the historical parade that recalls the splendor of the Maritime Republic four boats representing the four ancient districts of the city dispute a regatta on the waters of the Arno. - on the last Saturday of June you can attend the historical parade and the "Gioco del Ponte", an ancient battle re-enactment: on the Ponte di Mezzo the cart is set up, which the fighters must push on a sliding track towards Tramontana or Mezzogiorno. The team that manages to push the opponent on the side opposite their own wins.
In June 2017 (date awaiting confirmation) the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics will be held in Pisa: a sporting event that recalls the rivalry between the Italian Maritime Republics of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. The event takes place every year and is hosted in rotation between the aforementioned cities. It is a rowing race aboard boats, rebuilt on models of the twelfth century. The hulls are painted with the traditional colors of the four seafaring cities: blue for Amalfi, red for Pisa, white for Genoa and green for Venice. The 2017 edition takes place in Pisa.
Not only Pisa but also many other villages and Tuscan cities host events that we recommend you see. Another type of Palio takes place, instead, on the streets of the historic center of San Miniato, in mid-June with the Black Night, celebrating the black summer truffle, then bringing a whole week of games, parties and dishes to the squares of the quaint village. typical and costume parade. In Lari on 1 and 2 May, the Festa dell'Agricoltore (fraction of Usigliano), with parades in traditional peasant costumes, re-enactments of ancient crafts and wheat beating, a museum of agricultural activities and the chance to taste local products, protagonists of this tribute to the rural world.
