About Rachel Steel
We (Rachel Tony & Rosie), have lived in Brittany since 2005. We chose to live in Brittany because of the relaxed pace of life, the friendly locals, the quiet country roads and the scenery and coastlines, whilst still having easy access to bustling towns and great restaurants. We are within easy reach of airports and ferry ports for visits to the family & friends in the UK. We love it here and are sure you will too!
Rachel Steel purchased this House in 2012

Le Deran lies down a long private lane in tranquil countryside, amongst green rolling hills and lush wooded valleys, though you are never far away from an abundance of picturesque towns and villages.
The village of Inguiniel with boulangerie, chemist, mini-supermarket, pizzeria and bar is five minutes away. The nearest town, Gueméné sur Scorff, has a larger choice of shops, a supermarket, bars, restaurants and banks, and is an quick ten minute drive. The bigger town of Pontivy is 25 mins away and the modern city of Lorient, is 30 mins drive.
The closest sandy beach is just 45 mins away at Larmor-Plage. All along the coastline you will find an abundant choice of beautiful white sandy beaches, fashionable seaside resorts and secluded rocky coves. You really are spoilt for choice; a week here may not be long enough!
The nearby Rivers Blavet & Scorff are great for fishing, canoeing, walking, jogging & cycling. Other local activities to keep the kids amused are: quad biking, go karting, woodland adventure centre, windsurfing, sailing, sea kayaking, to name but a few.
The Morbihan region:
Guémené-sur-Scorff is ten minutes from the house; a picturesque town with cobbled streets, quaint houses and ruined chateau walls. The town has a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, (offering great food) and a cinema which sometimes shows English films.
The surrounding area provides fantastic countryside for ramblers as well as ample opportunity for fishing, plus two nearby lakes for windsurfing, kayaking & other water sports.
For the children; there are pony clubs, zoos, quad biking, adventure forest, aquariums & many other activities a short drive away.
Coast : You will find many sandy beaches; including the bustling resort of Carnac, home to the largest collection of prehistoric standing stones in the world, as well as superb beaches with sailing facilities and a health spa.
Other interesting towns to visit are Quimper, Concarneau, Auray, Port Louis, Vannes, Pontivy and Josselin, to name but a few.
Markets : A visit to a French market is a must whilst you are here; to buy fresh local produce, such as seafood, cheeses & bread, or just to soak up the atmosphere.
Lakes : Just 30 minutes away is the Lac de Guerledan, which has leisure activities for all. With beautiful landscapes and forests it is a haven for walkers, ramblers, mountain bikers and horse-riders. The water sports centre includes dinghies, canoes, rowing-boats, pedalos and water-skiing, plus there are many good restaurants which are well worth the stopover. The lakes' sandy beaches are ideal for children with safe swimming and outdoor cafes to enable the less active to enjoy the view without expending too much energy.
Golf : There are some lovely Golf courses in the region, many within easy reach of Le Deran. The courses are owned by a management company called Blue Green. It is possible to become a member for a month during the summer for €150 approx. This allows you to play unlimited golf on all the Blue Green courses for no additional charge. There are 24 Blue Green courses in Brittany alone. Membership can be bought at any of the blue green courses. More information available on : http://bluegreen.com/en
