Stay a week or stay a month. Enjoy the hot tub and the view and the peaceful days and nights alone or with your family!

Make a lifetime of vacation memories at 'Mama Bear' at Bear Lake. Amazing view of Lake and Mountains. Fish for trout or small mouth bass, enjoy the view from hot tub and large decks, shoot some pool, or just watch the leaves change color. This summer families have enjoyed kayaking, hiking to creeks and waterfalls, fishing, gem mining and much more! Enjoy 200 feet of shoreline, and private boat dock near the public boat access. Bring your boat and tour the waterfalls. Part of the Nantahala National Forest.

'Mama Bear', a remodeled older home(circa 1980's), is only a short drive to Sylva, Dillsboro, Cashiers, and Highlands. There are many fun things to do in Cherokee; and Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood are excellent 1 day excursions. Drive to Cataloochee and see the Elk or see a show at the Cherokee Casino. Call Western Carolina University to check the entertainment schedule and plan to catch a concert, play, athletic event, or craft show there. Mountain Heritage Day, held the last Saturday in September, is always a great reason to visit the area.

Perfect getaway for a family. What a wonderful place for the whole family to share Thanksgiving or Christmas together. Sleeping includes 2 King beds, 2 Queen beds, 1 sleeper sofa. There are 2 Rock Gas-Log Fireplaces.

About Will Mayse

We purchased this home because of the view in 2005. Mama Bear was built in 1985 and needed some upgrades. While we have already done many remodeling projects at Mama Bear, we look forward to being able to upgrade & complete more projects in the future. We look forward to enjoying relaxing days there in the future. We live 20 minutes from Bear Lake and are thankful each time we read the guest book and see that other families have enjoyed staying at Mama Bear.

Will Mayse purchased this house in 2005

Why Will Mayse chose Smoky Mountains

We chose to buy a vacation rental in this location because of the amazing view! We enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful lake, the mountains that change with each season, and the wildlife we've seen while canoeing. We also liked it's rustic charm....this is NOT an upscale home.

What makes this house unique

We've enjoyed watching beavers, osprey, and skunk :), catching walleye & large mouth bass, roasting marshmallows, hot-tubbing, canoeing, and just enjoying the quiet at Mama Bear.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a beautiful spot---can't beat the view we woke up to in the mornings. Nothing better than snuggling up by the fire playing games with good friends or warming up in the hot tub. We'd love to to it all again.

OUSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The moment we left Mama Bear we were already talking about when we will be returning!! From the very start of booking Tiffany was excellent in communcation and answering any questions I had. Spoke a few times on the phone, text, & email. She is the best! As, for the cabin....absoutely, met every need our group had. The VIEWS were outstanding and the cabin itself was packed with FUN goodies for us to venture off with on the lake. (we were able to bring our own jetskis) There is a pretty big walk for us FL people going up the stairs to return the toys but totally doable esp with two people and you feel great after the work out haha!!!.. The Cabin was beautiful and pretty much had everything you would need to stay in comfort.. plenty enough room for a big group..and tons of games..and just perfection!!! WE cannot wait to visit again. in our short stay we were able to travel short distanced to ziplining and pisgah national forest to visit Waterfalls.. but in all honesty the cabin and lake would of been just fine the entire trip. Thank you for providing such a great rental and we will most defintlely be back again!!!!!

Great refreshing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We have had our worship retreat at Mama Bear Cabin for the past year- once in fall and once in spring. It has been amazing each time. The house is well kept, the view is stunning, and the things to do there are endless! I recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, refreshing getaway! We are looking forward to having many more events at the cabin! The owners are amazing and so easy to work with!

Eight Person Friendly Retreat to the Mtns.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better getaway location. This was an awesome awesome awesome house! The space in the house was perfect for a large group of eight. The view is legitimately amazing! Couldn't have asked for a better set up. We fished (our own poles), kayaked, paddle boarded, canoed, and just relaxed around the water off the dock. The cell phone reception was non-existent, which was perfect for a group that wanted to unplug and have some fun away from civilization. Make sure to print your directions because GPS won't get you there! You are right around the corner from the boat launch too, so it would be fun to bring some bigger water toys along. We may have watched a few throwback VHS tapes from the house's collection as well when the rain brought us inside from the fire pit, ping pong, and pool table - but we still made plenty of time each night for s'mores, hot tubbing, and star gazing. We will either come back or wish we had!

Perfect quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I traveled to this property for our honeymoon and we could not have asked for a better place. The house itself was clean and spacious. It was more than enough room for just the two of us and could obviously house multiple families. It has some awesome porches to lounge around on during the day and sitting in the hot tub and looking at the stars at night was fantastic. The property has new kayaks for guests to use around the lake as well as a private dock to relax on. We got groceries on the way in and didn't leave again until 4 days later when we took a quick 50min drive to the Smokey Mtn. National Park to do some hiking. During the week, we didn't hear a single other person around us and during the weekend we couldn't see anyone else since the house is nicely tucked back and hidden by trees on both sides. The drive from the road is steep though we didn't have any trouble with it in our Subaru. There was no cell service, which is exactly what we were looking for, but there is wifi to watch movies etc. In short, we would highly recommend staying here whether as a romantic getaway, family trip, or just to relax with friends.
