About Denise Ruscoe

Hello! My name is Denise and I am delighted to welcome you to Independence, Oregon and the Fluke House. Raising 3 kids in this circa 1895 historic home and quaint town brought many joys in the last 20 years. I continue to reside in Independence and am excited to open up the Fluke House to guests. I love and continue to develop the yard and gardens. Guests will be invited to take advantage of the outside seating areas of the home to relax and rejuvenate. I love Oregon and enjoy living in the central Willamette Valley with easy access to the coastal areas, mountains, and cities. At home I enjoy knitting, yoga, and trying new recipes. I look forward to sharing my favorite flavors of Oregon with guests.

Quaint, beautiful, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described! The owners are such nice and attentive hosts. They assured we had everything we needed. The home is a charming historic jewel, well maintained and updated with modern comforts but keeps its unique charm of yesteryear. It is situated in a residential area, close to stores and the wine country. The yard/ landscaping is well manicured , lush , gorgeous trees, shrubs and flowers ! We absolutely loved it! Wish we could have stayed longer. Though the home does not have air conditioning, we were quite comfortable with fans and the cool evening air chilled the house quite nicely. Would definitely stay here again.

Truly a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This is by far the most wonderful home I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. From the moment you enter there is a sense of peace and tranquility. I usually do most of the cooking and how delightful it was to want for nothing in the kitchen. Denise and Jeff have tastefully appointed this home with everything the wandering traveler could ever want or need. The furniture is comfortable and inviting. Huge TV in the living room to view your favorite shows. This is a 5 bedroom home that could accommodate multiple guests. An antique piano in the gorgeous dining room could not have been more beautiful. Memory foam bed and pillows. You melt into the mattress it's just that comfortable. More towels and linen that you could ever use and a new washer and dryer to clean your clothes if you have been on the road a while. A great old claw bathtub to soak in after a tiring day off wine tasting. Within walking distance to many restaurants and pubs. A 5 minute drive to other eateries. A great outdoor space to sip more wine after your dinner. A fire pit already with wood and just waiting for your arrival. Denise and Jeff are just a phone call away should you need anything. Denise met me at the house to show me where everything was and to answer any questions. I cannot thank you enough for making this such a special retreat to escape to. I will return again and highly recommend this charming old Victorian home.

Charming House, Yard, and Town

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is even more charming in person than in the photos - lots of nice furniture and decor. The house was very family friendly and both our children enjoyed it. We also found several kids' DVDs that were well-liked The house is very close to the center of the small town of Independence, which has a charming "downtown" area and a very nice park right on the Willamette River. We ate at a pub type place (can't remember the name) and a bakery. We walked around the town quite a bit and enjoyed the old architecture, the historical society, and the school playground, which was a really good one. It was a weekend so our kids were able to play there. We also enjoyed our visit to Ankeny National Wildlife Refuse (the drive there was beautiful) and spent time Monmouth which is nearby. A very nice home base for activities in the mid-Willamette Valley. Two recommendations: a teakettle and a teapot would be great additions to the kitchen.
