About Dale and Donna Potruski

Dale and Donna Potruski met in the late 80s and were married in May of 1990 in an outdoor ceremony attended by family and friends at Lake Eola Park in Orlando. Donna’s focus was furthering her career in the hospitality industry. Dale earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Central Florida while working in area hotels, restaurants and nightclubs.

Collectively, Donna and Dale have over half-a-century of food and beverage/hospitality experience. Their resumes include such recognized “five-star” properties as Walt Disney World and The Peabody, Orlando; The Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, Jacksonville; as well as Florida State University in Tallahassee. While living in Palm Beach, Donna worked at the Ritz-Carlton and Dale at The Breakers.

In 1993 they decided to combine their experience and enthusiasm for the service industry and pursue an interest in becoming professional innkeepers. Their initial foray as innkeepers saw them relocate to St. Marys, Ga. As the southern-most village in coastal Georgia, Dale and Donna catered to guests visiting Cumberland Island and King’s Bay navel installation. “We made friends that have stayed with us here at The Oaks," they will tell you.

From there, Donna and Dale continued to hone their skills as innkeepers in the nation’s oldest city, St. Augustine, Fl. "We worked hard and loved every minute.” Their path would lead them to the Blue Ridge Mountains or North Carolina and the historic village of Saluda, outside of Asheville. Living in this area has provided this energetic couple with all the beauty and enthusiasm they were looking for. Dale and Donna's Victorian home is truly a gem and they love sharing it with others.

Why Dale and Donna Potruski chose Smoky Mountains

Historically, visitors traveled to Saluda to escape the heat of the low country and enjoy the infinite vistas, cool summer breezes and pure mountain air. Today, the area attracts famous actors, authors, artists, musicians, chefs and visionaries, who have created an environment that complements the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Many of North Carolina’s most popular attractions and points-of-interest — including Biltmore Estate, The Carl Sandburg Home, Flat Rock Playhouse, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway — are all within an easy drive from The Oaks.

While you feel as free as you can be in this tranquil mountain setting, know that you are only minutes from the excitement of the cities of Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC.

Asheville, is known for its laid-back attitude and recognized as home to more craft breweries per capita than any other city in the U.S. Recently, Southern Magazine has named the city among the top ten 'Tasty Towns' in the South for dinning. Good Morning America listed the area as "The Number One Place to Visit in 2015!"

Greenville has a sophisticated personality that lends itself to lavish restaurants and theater, while preserving its historic link to the past. As the stateside home of BMW and Michelin Tires, Greenville has an undeniable international appeal.

Spend your day doing as little, or as much as you desire, knowing that a comfortable spot waits for you on one of your expansive verandas, or by a welcoming fire in our library or parlor.

The Oaks is now, more than ever, a historic and memorable part of your Blue Ridge, North Carolina experience!
