About Jeff

Our home was built by my husband Jim. He worked evenings and weekends for 2 years, all this after leaving his daytime job at Portage Point Inn. During rentals, we love staying on our sailboat which is docked at Portage Point Inn Marina. We still live in our home when not rented, so we do have many personal belongings in the dwelling. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause. Jim and I designed the house ourselves, we love and enjoy it, and hope you do too.

We both grew up in Frankenmuth, MI., graduated in 1967 from Frankenmuth High School and went our separate ways. Twenty-five years later we were reaquainted at our 25th Class Reunion (celebrating our 50th Reunion this summer). The rest "is history" as they say.

Have a great time and stay w/us again soon!

Jeff purchased this house in 2002

Good property ... with only a few quirks

  • 4 of 5

We thought the property was very nice sized, lots of windows and fans, lots of indoor and outdoor room, good space for all ages to share meals and spend time together, plus a good breeze with no mosquitos!!! The location was unique with deer and birds nearly every morning outside the house ... albeit it is not located on either Portage Lake or Lake Michigan. The layout though was quirky ... little privacy in the master bedroom and bathroom and no wifi, which all the adults ... and especially my teenager daughter ... thought very odd in this day and age.

great family vacation!

  • 3 of 5

The house was very nice, great location near PPI and the Lake Michigan beaches. Plenty of room and expansive decks around back and sides of house. Just make sure you can get along for a week without wifi, air conditioning, and ESPN.

Very pleasant clean home, nice small town area

  • 4 of 5

We were pleased with the rental, the majority of the amenities, and the location being so close to Lake Michigan shoreline. There are 3 floors: the bottom 1st floor is a ground floor basement, not to be used, not set up to be used by guests; the 2nd floor is the main floor of the home with a great room, spacious kitchen & nook, full bathroom, 2 small bedrooms, and laundry room; the 3rd floor is a master bedroom suite with its own full bathroom, sitting area, and mini-deck outside. Since there are so few here are our NEGATIVES: When we rented Aug2015 it was the owners main home so it was filled with all their stuff, very full in every space possible. Every surface in the house had either a framed photo, decorations, or a plant, no exaggeration, even the kitchen surfaces. Our first hour was gently and respectfully clearing off surfaces and putting stuff out of harms way. As we settled in those first hours we realized it was not set up to accommodate guests coming with their own belongings that need some space; no available closet space or functional bedroom surfaces. The main floor bedrooms were very small and of the 4 sleeping surfaces, only 2 were mattresses. We did bring our own air mattresses based on past experiences, so fortunately this did not damper our sleeping arrangements. Now, for the POSITIVES which greatly out weigh the above comments. The home was very CLEAN with a nice amount of living space in the kitchen and great room for all 8 of us! The view out the beautiful windows along the back of the home was across a grass field with two horses in the distance, very relaxing, very pleasant. The wooden deck along the entire back of the home's main floor was such a great additional space to enjoy. The 3rd floor suite was a nice space to relax, although not quite private from the main floor since there are open pieces/slots in the walls for maximum ventilation, but nice all the same. The king size bed was high quality; very comfortable. There are ceiling fans through out to increase airflow as well. The kitchen was a great gathering place to prepare meals and visit; with functional up to date appliances. The property manager was very accommodating. Overall, would recommend for adult group vacation.

Lovely and spacious home with great location!

  • 5 of 5

As a friend of the homeowners, I've had the chance to spend many weekends in this rental. The location couldn't be better for beach-lovers, golfers and fisherman in the summer and cross country and downhill skiers in the winter. The home is within minutes of the beaches and boat launches of both Lake Michigan and Portage Lake. Golfing is only fifteen minutes away, and downhill skiing is within a half hour drive.

The nicely decorated home provides lots of room for even a large group and comes equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable, weeklong vacation. The kitchen has plenty of cookware, dishes and utensils, and the bathrooms are well-stocked with towels. The property has a full-size washer and dryer if you need to do some laundry.

Should you decide you don't want to cook, the quaint town of Onekama has several restaurants (especially The Glenwood), cafes and bars. It also has a bank, a winery, a couple of gift shops and several churches.

The owners are very accommodating and great people! Give them a call.

Onekama's Best Kept Vacation Rental Secret

  • 5 of 5

We have spend many wonderful vacations here - a spacious and relaxing home, with a large master bedroom/bath upstairs, and two bedrooms and full bath downstairs. A spacious kitchen makes for easy meal preparation, and a walkout door connects you to an equally spacious deck for dining and relaxing. Nestled in the woods, you are just a ten minute walk from the public access on Portage Lake, and a five minute walk from Lake Michigan. It is located so close to so many different activities: the Lakes provide fabulous beaches and water sport, two terrific golf courses with in a fifteen minute drive (The Heathlands or Arcadia Bluffs), sun-drenched orchards, dune climbing, rivers and streams aplenty for kayaking or canoeing......This beautiful house is your home base for the vacation of a lifetime on Michigan's Gold Coast, with memories to last as long.

Nice home at a great location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this home last summer and found it to be very comfortable and secluded. Nice large great room and kitchen. Large master bedroom. It was nice because we could walk a couple of blocks to the Lake Michigan beach. I also had a boat a was able to keep it at the Portage Point Inn marina which was just a 1/3 of a mile away. This was one of the most relaxing vacations I ever took.
