3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Sleeps 9. Block from Lake Michigan & Portage Lake
Our home was built by my husband Jim. He worked evenings and weekends for 2 years, all this after leaving his daytime job at Portage Point Inn. During rentals, we love staying on our sailboat which is docked at Portage Point Inn Marina. We still live in our home when not rented, so we do have many personal belongings in the dwelling. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause. Jim and I designed the house ourselves, we love and enjoy it, and hope you do too. We both grew up in Frankenmuth, MI., graduated in 1967 from Frankenmuth High School and went our separate ways. Twenty-five years later we were reaquainted at our 25th Class Reunion (celebrating our 50th Reunion this summer). The rest "is history" as they say. Have a great time and stay w/us again soon!

Great place and great location.
Everything was very clean and orderly. Some reviews mentioned lack of space for luggage and what not but that was not the case with our stay. The house had plenty of room for all of our belongings and groceries. It was a perfect central location for our family, with easy access to the big lake and PPI.
Thank you again for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage.
Great family-oriented home in wooded setting
The house is set on a large open lot in the woods, which made it perfect for kids to play while adults relaxed on the massive deck. The house itself reflected a "loving touch" in the decor and furnishings, done up in a Cape Cod style. The open kitchen/living area was large and airy with southern exposure ensuring lots of light.
The only slightly odd aspect was that because so many areas were marked as "Private", including parts of bathrooms and the kitchen, it felt a little like we were constantly trying to tip toe around the restrictions. Also, the house had a computer system with WIFI - it would have been nice to have been able to connect.
Still a good experience.
Good property ... with only a few quirks
We thought the property was very nice sized, lots of windows and fans, lots of indoor and outdoor room, good space for all ages to share meals and spend time together, plus a good breeze with no mosquitos!!! The location was unique with deer and birds nearly every morning outside the house ... albeit it is not located on either Portage Lake or Lake Michigan. The layout though was quirky ... little privacy in the master bedroom and bathroom and no wifi, which all the adults ... and especially my teenager daughter ... thought very odd in this day and age.
great family vacation!
The house was very nice, great location near PPI and the Lake Michigan beaches. Plenty of room and expansive decks around back and sides of house. Just make sure you can get along for a week without wifi, air conditioning, and ESPN.
Very pleasant clean home, nice small town area
We were pleased with the rental, the majority of the amenities, and the location being so close to Lake Michigan shoreline. There are 3 floors: the bottom 1st floor is a ground floor basement, not to be used, not set up to be used by guests; the 2nd floor is the main floor of the home with a great room, spacious kitchen & nook, full bathroom, 2 small bedrooms, and laundry room; the 3rd floor is a master bedroom suite with its own full bathroom, sitting area, and mini-deck outside. Since there are so few here are our NEGATIVES: When we rented Aug2015 it was the owners main home so it was filled with all their stuff, very full in every space possible. Every surface in the house had either a framed photo, decorations, or a plant, no exaggeration, even the kitchen surfaces. Our first hour was gently and respectfully clearing off surfaces and putting stuff out of harms way. As we settled in those first hours we realized it was not set up to accommodate guests coming with their own belongings that need some space; no available closet space or functional bedroom surfaces. The main floor bedrooms were very small and of the 4 sleeping surfaces, only 2 were mattresses. We did bring our own air mattresses based on past experiences, so fortunately this did not damper our sleeping arrangements. Now, for the POSITIVES which greatly out weigh the above comments. The home was very CLEAN with a nice amount of living space in the kitchen and great room for all 8 of us! The view out the beautiful windows along the back of the home was across a grass field with two horses in the distance, very relaxing, very pleasant. The wooden deck along the entire back of the home's main floor was such a great additional space to enjoy. The 3rd floor suite was a nice space to relax, although not quite private from the main floor since there are open pieces/slots in the walls for maximum ventilation, but nice all the same. The king size bed was high quality; very comfortable. There are ceiling fans through out to increase airflow as well. The kitchen was a great gathering place to prepare meals and visit; with functional up to date appliances. The property manager was very accommodating. Overall, would recommend for adult group vacation.
Lovely and spacious home with great location!
As a friend of the homeowners, I've had the chance to spend many weekends in this rental. The location couldn't be better for beach-lovers, golfers and fisherman in the summer and cross country and downhill skiers in the winter. The home is within minutes of the beaches and boat launches of both Lake Michigan and Portage Lake. Golfing is only fifteen minutes away, and downhill skiing is within a half hour drive.
The nicely decorated home provides lots of room for even a large group and comes equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable, weeklong vacation. The kitchen has plenty of cookware, dishes and utensils, and the bathrooms are well-stocked with towels. The property has a full-size washer and dryer if you need to do some laundry.
Should you decide you don't want to cook, the quaint town of Onekama has several restaurants (especially The Glenwood), cafes and bars. It also has a bank, a winery, a couple of gift shops and several churches.
The owners are very accommodating and great people! Give them a call.
This property is located on a wooded peninsula, less than a half mile to sandy beaches on both Portage Lake and Lake Michigan, marina, boat launch.
