The cottage is cool and the location is awesome! It's situated in the open dune grass only about sixty feet from the beach. It is what we call a two and a half bedroom setup (one queen bedroom facing the ocean, one bunk room, and a third elevated 3/4 bed off the central room that kids enjoy sleeping in - two cots are available too). It has one bath with a shower and a galley kitchen. Amenities include a working stone fireplace made of ocean-weathered rocks from the surrounding islands, washer/dryer, microwave, coffee maker, a TV with DVD player (movie shop in town but lots of movies at the cottage), and wifi! You will find a number of new high quality furniture pieces, rugs, and lighting, along with luxury bath and bedroom linens. Friendly, non- aggressive dogs are very welcome and will thoroughly enjoy the beach. The protected beach and bay is ideal for kayaking, SUPs, and kid-friendly wakeboarding and there is an island at one end of the beach that folks can walk to at low tide. There are also many coastal walking/hiking trails in the area (Great Wass Island Preserve and the Bold Coast Trail to name a couple). If you are a power boat or sailing family, there are some really special coves and islands to explore. The cottage is open from June through September. Our family and friends have enjoyed this beach and area for generations and we hope you have a chance to enjoy this special place too.

About Steve Mitchell and family
My name is Steve (at right in photo) and my twin brother Jon is on the left (our dad is in the middle). The two of us (and our lovely wives) bought the cottage from our uncle in the Fall of 2014. It's been a special place for our family for four generations and we're hoping to keep that going! My immediate family and I live outside Portland, Maine and my brother and his family live on the north shore of Massachusetts. We're a pretty tight, but busy family and enjoy getting together at the beach for a couple weeks each summer to reconnect, relax, have some adventures, and have fun! It's a really special place and we really enjoy sharing it with others!

So relaxing and cozy! What views!
I highly recommend this lovely cottage for anyone needing to recharge and relax. It has amazing views and sits on a sandy beach with access to a small island at low tide. We loved walking up and down the beach, especially at low tide, so we could climb around the boulders on Bar Island. Jonesport and Beals are quiet towns - well away from the tourist shops and restaurants. We enjoyed buying local lobster and cooking it ourselves, or getting a steak at the local grocery store to grill, and staying home to enjoy the cottage's view while we ate. We found great hikes within about an hour and took a trip to Campobello (about an hour.) The cottage itself is terrific! Comfortable beds, nice fireplace, beautiful deck looking at the beach - we took our dogs and, with leashes, they could also enjoy the beach. They also went on all our hikes (be aware Wass Island does not allow pets but most other areas so as long as they are on leashes.) Steve and his family were wonderful and we loved our welcome gift! Very thoughtful. So glad they shared their special spot with us.
An A+ Downeast Family Vacation
We decided to have our first true family vacation here at the Twin Ledges Cottage located in Jonesport, Maine, which is about an hour north of Bar Harbor, and what a vacation it was! We wanted to go someplace in Maine that would offer us the relaxation time we needed as a family with views, a beach feel that was semi-secluded, yet not too far from shopping areas/towns. The cottage met all of our expectations and then some!
The cottage in itself is beautiful. It has a rustic feel, yet offered all of the modern day amenities one enjoys while on vacation (washer/dryer, awesome shower control, blu-ray dvd player just to name a few). Plus, the million dollar views directly from the cottage of the ocean and islands are spectacular! We enjoyed spending many mornings and evenings sitting out on the back porch taking in the views while enjoying some coffee or a glass of wine. The views alone are perfection. It is what one may expect when thinking of Maine's impeccable coastline. It simply doesn't get any better than this!
We also spent most of our time exploring the pristine Sandy River Beach that's just 50 feet away from the house! The beach is filled with all sorts of treasures that one can spend hours upon hours looking for sea glass or sea shells during low tide. Plus, the tide changes are incredible. We truly lucked out with some perfect weather days, which made exploring the beach even greater fun. We flew kites and spent time wading in the water.
Since the cottage is also dog-friendly, we were able to bring along our family pet. She had a blast walking the beach and playing fetch with her "sissy"! She had the time of her life. While in Maine, we went to Machias for breakfast at Helen's Restaurant (excellent blueberry waffles), visited Lubec and Campobello Island's West and East Quoddy Lighthouses, and we also stopped in at Wild Blueberry Land for some mini-golf and the best wild blueberry pie (get the crumb topping) and blueberry desserts. We also ventured over to Beals Island (10 minutes from the cottage) and had Bayview takeout for dinner.
Lastly, the Mitchell family were phenomenal. They greeted us with a nice welcome gift and were extremely helpful and friendly. They treated us like family. The fact that the cottage has been in their family for generations makes this place even more special. We are truly grateful for the Mitchell family for sharing their rare gem with us where we were able to make some memories that will last a lifetime!
