About the property

Light And Modern 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Cabin In Tahoe Donner

This sunny modern cabin is located in Tahoe Donner, close to hiking, biking, skiing, climbing, Donner Lake, and only about 10 minutes from historic downtown Truckee. The cabin has a great open floor plan under vaulted ceilings with windows galore. The layout is perfect for hanging out, cooking a meal, playing games, and enjoying a fire.

On the lower floor, there is a large living and dining area with a wood burning stove, dining table, large sectional sofa, reclaimed wood coffee table, and television (connected to a Roku to be able to stream movies and TV shows from our Netflix account, no cable tv). The huge, oak slab dining table easily seats 8 people. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking and baking, with plenty of plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and utensils (and coffee-making supplies).

Also on the lower level, there are two bedrooms, one with a full bed, the other with two twin beds. Also downstairs are a full bathroom and laundry area.

Upstairs is a loft area and the master suite. The loft is a wonderful reading nook, and is also suitable for sleeping additional guests on a blow-up mattress. The master suite has a queen bed, vanity area, bathroom, closet, and dresser. Linens are provided for each bedroom and in each bathroom.

The cabin is situated on approximately half an acre with a large wooded side-yard. There is a two-car garage and covered walkway up to the front door. The dining area has a sliding glass door that leads to a deck with a barbecue and smaller table for use in snow-free months.

Guest passes to Tahoe Donner's amenities are available - these guest passes allow you to access the Trout Creek Recreation Center (with its huge hot tub, sauna, and steam room), the Tahoe Donner pools, the Beach Marina, etc. (for a small fee, which you pay to Tahoe Donner when you use the passes).

There are enough real beds to sleep 6 people, a queen-sized aerobed for 2 more people.

Truckee Registration Certificate Number 752.

About Sylvie (manager) or Lauren (owner)

We are a young(ish) couple who live most of the time in the Bay Area. One of us is a teacher, the other a carpenter and climbing coach. We love rock climbing, hiking, running, birdwatching, and just generally being outside.

Sylvie manages this vacation rental for us.

Sylvie (manager) or Lauren (owner) purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Sylvie (manager) or Lauren (owner) chose Lake Tahoe North Shore CA

We bought this house because we love Truckee. It is a fabulous town nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, that wonderful "Range of Light," and surrounded by the things we love the most - mountains, lakes, trees, birds, and rocks!

What makes this cabin unique

We love the open floor plan and high ceilings in this house. The modern wood-burning stove provides a cozy additional source of heat. Our oak slab dining table, coffee table, and bookcase were all designed and crafted by us (well, the carpenter half of us!). Several other pieces are family heirlooms or salvage yard finds.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Great Location, Cozy, and Clean

  • 4 of 5

The house was in a great location. Clean. Received good instructions and no problem with accessing the house at night. Close to the downtown and to the recreational center.

One minor thing is that the loft did not have blinds and on the morning the sun shines directly in your eyes. My husband needed to move downstairs to the kids room to sleep in. Should not be a problem for early birds.

Nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Decent place to stay for our visit to Tahoe. Everything was clean and the kitchen was well-stocked. The only thing were the quirky check-out procedures. They wanted us to wash one load of linens/towels AND put in the dryer before we left, which meant starting laundry well before the check out time of 10 am. Any additional linens that would have been used (like for the air bed) would have to be cleaned before we left (we did not have to use extra linens - but how is this really feasible?). Oh just FYI - the water is asked to be shut off when checking out but the check-in procedures do not mention anything about that, so that caught us by surprise when we walked in, but luckily saw this mentioned on the check-out sheet.

Clean and cozy with real wood burning fireplace and close to freeway, downtown Truckee

Well kept home in Tahoe Donner area. Although we weren't able to get discounts on ski lessons or half day lift tix, we did use the rec center which had a nice pool and hot tubs. I would stay at this place again.

Perfect for our family of five

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific time in Tahoe Donner area. We skied five days at squaw valley alpine and one day at Tahoe Donner Nordic. The home we rented was cozy, comfortable and perfectly adequate for our family of five. it has a nice master bedroom with its own shower and two bedrooms below one with a queen size bed and another two singles. The kitchen open up into a large family room. The only thing is that wood for the woodstove has to be brought in which is quite expensive at the local supermarket about $18 for 1or2 nights. It was, however, a perfect place for our family. Thank you.
