Quaint Riverfront Refurnished/Renovated 1922 Bungalow

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Our bungalow was built in 1922 and was recently purchased by us (We own a B&B directly across the river) and is our personal cottage when we are running the B&B. When we are out of town or our whole B&B is rented for family reunions ( VRBO listing 414879 ), we offer our little cottage for rent. It is called the Little River House and is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the 2nd bedroom has two twin beds. Both bedrooms are small, but cozy and furnished cute and are comfy. They also both have flat screen t.v.s as does the family room. The family room is riverside and when the windows are open you can hear the beautiful sounds of the Rocky Broad River in your backyard. This little house has a front screened porch with rocking chairs which has a great view of Chimney Rock (front of the bungalow) and there is also a riverfront deck with two chaises and a grill for cooking. The t.v. room has a sectional which could sleep a small child so the sleeping capacity is 4-5 guests. The house is riverfront and you can fish, wade, hang out on the rocks, inner tube, or swim behind the house. We are walking distance to the quaint village of Chimney Rock so you can walk up Southside Drive over a little one lane bridge which goes over the Rocky Broad River, and right into town to shop or eat at one of several very good restaurants. Lake Lure is approximately 3/4 mile in the other direction and offers a huge variety of things to do. Between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure you can hike, visit Chimney Rock State Park, visit waterfalls, horseback ride, take a wonderful boat tour of the Lake including the Dirty Dancing film site, go wakeboarding, water skiing, kayaking, the list goes on and on. Additionally we are a short distance from the wonderful downtown of Hendersonville, Dupont Forest and its amazing waterfalls, and Asheville which is a great place to visit with a fun downtown with lots of art, music, culture, and great restaurants! There are truly more things to do than time during your week stay at the Little River House!

What makes this bungalow unique

The Little River House has a great location right in between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and is the perfect escape to a riverfront property. The bungalow is cutely furnished with some custom made furniture and has been recently updated and is constantly being improved. You can swim in the river, come in, and be comfortable cooking in the kitchen looking out on the river or curl up in the newly carpeted riverfront family room and read a book or watch t.v. at night with the sounds of the river floating through the windows. You will be comfortable while you visit and relaxed and refreshed when you return home. We always are!

Cute but tiny

  • 3 of 5

The homeowner has tried to make the interior of this home look quaint and cozy, but I should have paid more attention to the "Little" in "Little River House". The rooms are TINY and there is a lot of furniture, throw pillows and knick knacks taking up what limited space there is. Being close to the river is nice but just be forewarned that this is a very small, old house. It was really tight for our family of four. Homeowner was very nice but the home itself was disappointing just because it was so small and dated.

Owner's Response: Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to share your personal insights into our bungalow. As a former owner of a B&B, I take reviews very seriously and so I went back and read our description to see how I could alter it to assure that we accurately described our little home. Our description says the property was built in 1922, has small bedrooms, is a bungalow, and we have posted photos of the rooms to show the decor. It is very disappointing to read your review and I am very sorry in spite of pleasant interactions we had during your visit, to find that you were so displeased. Had I known of this and you had indicated your displeasure upon arrival I would have gladly refunded your money and released you from your stay so you could go someplace else that better suited your family's style and preferences. It is very important to me that our guests are happy and have a great time. Not every property is a good fit for every family and this appears to be the case this time. I am very sorry. I only wish you would have spoken to me so I could have taken care of things for you at the time of your visit. Sincerely, Rondi Jennings

Prime location AND waterfront!

  • 5 of 5

Crossing the single lane bridge over the gushing waters of the Broad River, from the heart of Chimney Rock, sets the vibe for this unique river cottage experience! We arrived late in the evening and simply used a door code to gain entry into the home. The screened-in front porch immediately became my children's favorite spot to rock in the rocking chairs and listen to the sounds of nature. The house is adorably decorated and truly felt cozy. The air conditioning system worked great and kept us nice and cool during these hot summer days. The best amenity in our opinion is the river access behind the house. We sat for hours either on the rocks or in our tubes playing in the perfect water. We tubed down the river many times (our children are 5 and 7) and then enjoyed a park-like setting, short walk back to the house. Our hosts, Rondi and her husband Jay, even tubed with us! They made sure we knew exactly what we were doing to enjoy every second of our trip!

The location of this cottage is PRIME! A short, easy walk to the Village of Chimney Rock where all of the stores and restaurants are located, not to mention the best ice cream shop around (Over 61 delicious flavors)! While sitting in the front porch, you can look up and see Chimney Rock, which was an awesome hike for our family. Lake Lure is a 5 minute drive, which has more restaurants and a fun beach with waterslides, a park and a marina. We loved our river house experience and can't wait to visit again!

Thank you for everything Rondi and Jay!

Owner's Response: We loved meeting you all and enjoyed so much our time with you all and your adorable children!! It was such a pleasure having you stay with us and tubing with you all down the river. It is my favorite thing to see bikes in the front yard and inner tubes on the deck. It is how the Little River House is meant to be enjoyed! Please come visit again and stay in touch!!!!! Warm regards, Rondi and Jay

Best Ever Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Miss Rondi's house is perfect! The river is right behind the house and her street is a dead end road which means very little traffic. We let our four kids bike and skateboard up and down the road to visit their grammy with no worries. The rest of the time they were in the river with their rafts and tubes. Which means parents could relax in the family room or join in on their fun after our naps.

I highly recommend this beautiful place!

Owner's Response: It was so wonderful to have you all stay with us! It is always heart warming to see bicycles strewn across the front yard and see children and their parents walking back up the road after tubing down the river behind the Little River House! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this thoughtful review and please call and stay again the next time you visit our sweet neighbor/Grammy! Warmly, Rondi Jennings

Great Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect getaway in the mountains. It sits on a quiet, secluded street. The river is right behind the cabin for easy access. Also, the cabin is clean and exactly as described. You can sit on the deck and admire the river. The location is centrally located for any mountain attraction: Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure, Cherokee, Maggie Valley, and shopping in Chimney Rock Village. The village is in easy walking distance and has great souvenir shops as well as places to eat. I highly recommend this cabin for anyone who wants to enjoy the quiet life in the mountains.

Cozy Cottage in Chimney Rock

  • 5 of 5

This is a cozy little cottage in a perfect location. You can sit outside behind the cottage and enjoy watching the river as it flows or rock in a rocking chair on the screened-in front porch and look directly up at Chimney Rock. We liked the fact that you could walk right over to Chimney Rock Village for dinner or a cup of coffee. Our favorite place to hang out was in the family room which has a full wall of windows which you can open and hear the river. Very peaceful! Although there are other cottages nearby, it is very quiet, and everyone is so friendly.

We only used the master bedroom, since there are just two of us and it was comfortable.

The owner is great to work with!

We are located in the heart of Chimney Rock Village over a quaint one lane bridge on a lane of summer bungalows and some annual residents. Our bungalow is located right on the Rocky Broad River so you can walk out your back door and fish, swim, and inner tube. There are wonderful little shops and great restaurants within walking distance of our cottage. The area offers ziplining, great hiking, horseback riding, visiting Chimney Rock State Park (our house is 2/10ths of a mile from the entrance. Additionally we are a short drive to the cute downtown of Hendersonville and about a 30 minute drive to Downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and winery, and the Grove Park Inn. There are truly more things to do than time when you stay for a week. You can also just relax from our screened in front porch with rockers and enjoy the view of Chimney Rock or go sit out on a rock in the middle of the river and enjoy the great views!
