Our bungalow was built in 1922 and was purchased in the last few years and was our personal cottage. We then were lucky enough to acquire another home 4 doors down which has a garage for our furniture building business, moved up the street, and have kept this bungalow for our guest house for family and friends and also rent it to new friends. Our bungalow is called the Little River House, but also has a sign over the front door which says the Nest which was hung by Miss Ruth and Mr. Flay who used to own the cabin. Miss Ruth still visits and is now 92 years old! The bungalow is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the 2nd bedroom has two twin beds. Both bedrooms are small, but cozy and furnished cute and are comfy. They also both have flat screen tv's, as does the family room. The family room is riverside, has a sectional and comfortable recliner for tv watching and listening to the beautiful sounds of the Rocky Broad River in your backyard. All tv's have DirecTV. This little house has a front screened porch with rocking chairs which has a great view of Chimney Rock (front of the bungalow) and there is also a riverfront deck with two chaises, an outdoor dining table and chairs, and a grill for cooking. The tv room has a comfortable sectional which could sleep a child so the sleeping capacity is 4-5 guests. The house is riverfront and you can fish, wade, hang out on the rocks, inner tube, or swim behind the house. (At your own risk, obviously, as there are no lifeguards, etc... :) ) We are walking distance to the quaint village of Chimney Rock so you can walk up Southside Drive over a little one lane bridge which goes over the Rocky Broad River, and right into town to shop or eat at one of several very good restaurants. There is also a craft beer brewery which has a beautiful spot on the river in Chimney Rock Village.
Burnt Shirt Winery will be opening soon in Chimney Rock, as well.
Lake Lure is approximately 3/4 mile in the other direction and offers a wide variety of things to do, including a beach with lifeguards, a small water park, and adjacent restaurants and an ice cream stand. Between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure you can hike, visit Chimney Rock State Park, visit waterfalls, horseback ride, take a wonderful boat tour of the Lake including the Dirty Dancing film site, go wakeboarding, water skiing, kayaking, the list goes on and on. Additionally we are a short distance from the wonderful downtown of Hendersonville, Dupont Forest and its amazing waterfalls, and Asheville which is a great place to visit with a fun downtown with lots of art, music, culture, and great restaurants! Additionally, Greenville, SC, is also about 40 minutes away and is another great town with a great downtown and lots to do! There are truly more things to do than time during your stay at the Nest and Chimney Rock.
