Chimney Rock State Park - Pet-Friendly Riverfront Cottage

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Our bungalow was built in 1922 and was purchased in the last few years and was our personal cottage. We then were lucky enough to acquire another home 4 doors down which has a garage for our furniture building business, moved up the street, and have kept this bungalow for our guest house for family and friends and also rent it to new friends. Our bungalow is called the Little River House, but also has a sign over the front door which says the Nest which was hung by Miss Ruth and Mr. Flay who used to own the cabin. Miss Ruth still visits and is now 92 years old! The bungalow is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the 2nd bedroom has two twin beds. Both bedrooms are small, but cozy and furnished cute and are comfy. They also both have flat screen tv's, as does the family room. The family room is riverside, has a sectional and comfortable recliner for tv watching and listening to the beautiful sounds of the Rocky Broad River in your backyard. All tv's have DirecTV. This little house has a front screened porch with rocking chairs which has a great view of Chimney Rock (front of the bungalow) and there is also a riverfront deck with two chaises, an outdoor dining table and chairs, and a grill for cooking. The tv room has a comfortable sectional which could sleep a child so the sleeping capacity is 4-5 guests. The house is riverfront and you can fish, wade, hang out on the rocks, inner tube, or swim behind the house. (At your own risk, obviously, as there are no lifeguards, etc... :) ) We are walking distance to the quaint village of Chimney Rock so you can walk up Southside Drive over a little one lane bridge which goes over the Rocky Broad River, and right into town to shop or eat at one of several very good restaurants. There is also a craft beer brewery which has a beautiful spot on the river in Chimney Rock Village.

Burnt Shirt Winery will be opening soon in Chimney Rock, as well.

Lake Lure is approximately 3/4 mile in the other direction and offers a wide variety of things to do, including a beach with lifeguards, a small water park, and adjacent restaurants and an ice cream stand. Between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure you can hike, visit Chimney Rock State Park, visit waterfalls, horseback ride, take a wonderful boat tour of the Lake including the Dirty Dancing film site, go wakeboarding, water skiing, kayaking, the list goes on and on. Additionally we are a short distance from the wonderful downtown of Hendersonville, Dupont Forest and its amazing waterfalls, and Asheville which is a great place to visit with a fun downtown with lots of art, music, culture, and great restaurants! Additionally, Greenville, SC, is also about 40 minutes away and is another great town with a great downtown and lots to do! There are truly more things to do than time during your stay at the Nest and Chimney Rock.

About Rondi Jennings

We are recently retired and have three grown sons and one daughter in law.

We have made the bungalow pet friendly as we have a dachshund, Bella, and are huge animal lovers.

We love to travel, hike in the surrounding mountains, kayak, and are also certified scuba divers who love to go lobstering and spearfishing in the Florida Keys. We are excited to share our former personal residence with other families/couples/furry family members who want to enjoy the beautiful surrounding mountains!

What makes this bungalow unique

The Little River House has a great location right in between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and is the perfect escape to a riverfront property. The bungalow is cutely furnished with some custom made furniture and has been recently updated and is constantly being improved. You can swim in the river (at your own lifeguards), come in, and be comfortable cooking in the kitchen looking out on the river or curl up in the carpeted riverfront family room and read a book or watch t.v. at night with the sounds of the river floating through the windows. You will be comfortable while you visit and relaxed and refreshed when you return home. We always are!

Beautiful Quaint Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is decorated and cared for as if it is the owner’s primary residence with easy access down to the river. The view of the river is spectacular from the living/dining and kitchen area. It’s location is within walking distance to all the shops and eateries of Chimney Rock. We had the opportunity to meet the owners and they are over the top fantastic! The cabin allows for a perfect mountain getaway! We will be back.

Great location and great space for Chimney Rock!

  • 5 of 5

The little river house was located right along the Broad River and provided easy access for my children to play in the water. (Supervised) The house itself was very clean and comfortable and located with walking distance of Chimney Rock State Park. (Literally a 10 minute walk) Rondi, the rental owner, was extremely friendly and welcoming. My family and I did many activities in and around Asheville, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and would definitely stay here again.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean. The neighborhood where it is located is very quiet.

The location:

The house sits right on the Rocky Broad River on the opposite shore from the town of Chimney Rock. The Rocky Broad is nothing short of fantastic. It’s a cold water mountain stream full of boulders, cool water and lots of fish. For us this compensated for any concerns related to the size of the house itself. We were able to do so many things without pulling the Jeep out of the driveway. We tubed the Rocky Broad at least twenty times. This was so much fun. It has big boulders to bounce off of and small waterfalls to float over. I stayed there in July and literally caught 5-7 trout a day right behind the house. My 18 year olds walked the very short distance (less than 75 yards) to the town to shop and sip coffee in the very tourist friendly town of Chimney Rock. I road my bike down to the lake and up the river to find other fishing spots. On and on and on... We all left loving this little town.

Greater Location:

from Chimney Rock, it was a 30 minute drive to Hendersenville or Asheville and all the (food, supplies etc) shopping you might need. This was also a nice hub for other activities. During our five day stay, we hiked to waterfalls, went white water rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, ate at some really cool local eateries etc.

We did something different everyday including one just hanging out at the house and enjoying the serenity of the mountain stream.

the house is on the small side but was plenty big for our family of four adults

There is no laundry so pack heavy... there is a laundry mat right as you enter Hendersonville called the lost sock we took care of that during a supply run with little issue (do recommend the owner add this amenity)

The cooking supply’s in the house were sparse at best would recommend that the owner improve that... in the mean time take an egg pan and grilling supply’s if you plan to cook.

Again, loved the house, adored the location and had a great trip to this wonderful little town.

Highly recommend a stay at the Little River House...

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed our two night stay at the Little River House. What a cozy place with a fantastic river front location. Chimney Rock was just as charming, with the shops and restaurants only a short walk away. Rondi, the cottage owner, was the sunshine of our visit as rain dominated the weekend. It poured non-stop. I guess I should have said thank God the Little River House was a only a short run from the shops and restaurants...because we did that! We'll definately be back to see Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Falls! The rain washed away the parking lot in the park, so they were closed during our stay. All in all...we had a memorable, fun time.

We are located in the heart of Chimney Rock Village over a quaint one lane bridge on a lane of summer bungalows and some annual residents. Our bungalow is located right on the Rocky Broad River so you can walk out your back door and fish, swim, and inner tube. There are wonderful little shops and great restaurants within walking distance of our cottage. The area offers ziplining, great hiking, horseback riding, visiting Chimney Rock State Park (our house is 2/10ths of a mile from the entrance. Additionally we are a short drive to the cute downtown of Hendersonville and about a 30 minute drive to Downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and winery, and the Grove Park Inn. There are truly more things to do than time when you stay for a week. You can also just relax from our screened in front porch with rockers and enjoy the view of Chimney Rock or go sit out on a rock in the middle of the river and enjoy the great views!
