Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Our bungalow was built in 1922 and was purchased in the last few years and was our personal cottage. We then were lucky enough to acquire another home 4 doors down which has a garage for our furniture building business, moved up the street, and have kept this bungalow for our guest house for family and friends and also rent it to new friends. Our bungalow is called the Little River House, but also has a sign over the front door which says the Nest which was hung by Miss Ruth and Mr. Flay who used to own the cabin. Miss Ruth still visits and is now 92 years old! The bungalow is 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the 2nd bedroom has two twin beds. Both bedrooms are small, but cozy and furnished cute and are comfy. They also both have flat screen t.v.s as does the family room. The family room is riverside, has a sectional and comfortable recliner for t.v. watching and listening to the beautiful sounds of the Rocky Broad River in your backyard. This little house has a front screened porch with rocking chairs which has a great view of Chimney Rock (front of the bungalow) and there is also a riverfront deck with two chaises, an outdoor dining table and chairs, and a grill for cooking. The t.v. room has a comfortable sectional which could sleep a small child so the sleeping capacity is 4-5 guests. The house is riverfront and you can fish, wade, hang out on the rocks, inner tube, or swim behind the house. (At your own risk, obviously, as there are no lifeguards, etc... :) )We are walking distance to the quaint village of Chimney Rock so you can walk up Southside Drive over a little one lane bridge which goes over the Rocky Broad River, and right into town to shop or eat at one of several very good restaurants. There is also a craft beer brewery which has a beautiful spot on the river in Chimney Rock Village.

In the Spring, Burnt Shirt Winery will be opening in Chimney Rock, as well.

Lake Lure is approximately 3/4 mile in the other direction and offers a huge variety of things to do including offering a beach with lifeguards, small, but fun water park, and adjacent restaurants and ice cream stand. Between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure you can hike, visit Chimney Rock State Park, visit waterfalls, horseback ride, take a wonderful boat tour of the Lake including the Dirty Dancing film site, go wakeboarding, water skiing, kayaking, the list goes on and on. Additionally we are a short distance from the wonderful downtown of Hendersonville, Dupont Forest and its amazing waterfalls, and Asheville which is a great place to visit with a fun downtown with lots of art, music, culture, and great restaurants! Additionally, Greenville, SC, is also about 40 minutes away and is another great town with a great downtown and lots to do! There are truly more things to do than time during your stay at the Nest and Chimney Rock.

About Rondi Jennings

We are recently retired and have three grown sons and one daughter in law.

We have made the bungalow pet friendly as we have a dachshund, Bella, and are huge animal lovers.

We love to travel, hike in the surrounding mountains, kayak, and are also certified scuba divers who love to go lobstering and spearfishing in the Florida Keys. We are excited to share our former personal residence with other families/couples/furry family members who want to enjoy the beautiful surrounding mountains!

What makes this bungalow unique

The Little River House has a great location right in between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and is the perfect escape to a riverfront property. The bungalow is cutely furnished with some custom made furniture and has been recently updated and is constantly being improved. You can swim in the river (at your own lifeguards), come in, and be comfortable cooking in the kitchen looking out on the river or curl up in the carpeted riverfront family room and read a book or watch t.v. at night with the sounds of the river floating through the windows. You will be comfortable while you visit and relaxed and refreshed when you return home. We always are!

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

This little place is great. It's in the perfect location, walking distance to shops and restaurants, and right on the river. It was very clean and had everything you need to enjoy your time in Chimney Rock/Lake Lure. Also, the owner checked in on us a few times while she was on vacation just to ensure everything was going well. I'd highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking your time to write such a nice review. I really do appreciate it! I am sorry I was away this time and didn't get to meet you all, but hopefully, you will come back to visit again...maybe this time in the summer when the river is fun for tubing and everything is green and lush! Thank you again for your business! Happy New Year to you and your family!

Definitely worth the effort and money to stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We have loved staying in the Little River House on multiple occasions. The quaint ambience of the 1920's homes by the river is welcoming year-round- from the delicious fragrance of the hydrangeas to the radiant autumn hues, LRH is perfect. The natural beauty is matched by the owners' attention to detail. All this makes it difficult to check out at the end of your stay.

Adorable cottage on the water

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time in the quaint and adorable Little River House. We had never been to this area before and it was absolutely perfect. We spent most of our time perched in the back mesmerized by the sounds of the river -- just steps out of the back door.

The decor in the cottage is "cottage chic" -- quaint antiques and lovely furnishings. We are from New York City, so we are used to living in small spaces ... for us, this was truly perfect. Walking distance to shops and restaurants ... and we cooked food as well. Our cell phones didn't have much coverage, so it was a perfect opportunity to unplug and just relax.

The most stunning of all was, of course, hiking Chimney Rock ... just breathtaking views.

You are sure to enjoy your time at this lovely spot.

Fabulous!

Owner's Response: Hi Robyn! So happy you all enjoyed the bungalow and I so appreciate you taking your time to post such a nice review. I take a lot of care to cut fresh flowers for the house, light candles, make out the welcome sign, and other little touches and I am always happy when a couple likes the home and has fun hanging out on the river. Thank you again for taking the time to write this review! Please come visit again! Warmly, Rondi

We are located in the heart of Chimney Rock Village over a quaint one lane bridge on a lane of summer bungalows and some annual residents. Our bungalow is located right on the Rocky Broad River so you can walk out your back door and fish, swim, and inner tube. There are wonderful little shops and great restaurants within walking distance of our cottage. The area offers ziplining, great hiking, horseback riding, visiting Chimney Rock State Park (our house is 2/10ths of a mile from the entrance. Additionally we are a short drive to the cute downtown of Hendersonville and about a 30 minute drive to Downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate and winery, and the Grove Park Inn. There are truly more things to do than time when you stay for a week. You can also just relax from our screened in front porch with rockers and enjoy the view of Chimney Rock or go sit out on a rock in the middle of the river and enjoy the great views!
