Family Friendly Fishing right on Sugar Lake! Muskies! Many other lakes nearby

Bedrooms 4

Space 2,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Lots of fun activities year round. The place to be over the 4th of July.

Great location on Sugar Lake in Wright County MN. Two story Lake home with over 300 feet of natural lakeshore. Includes large deck area, swimming pool, fire pit with log swing and two docks on the lake. Great fishing for Blue Gill, Crappie's, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Muskelenge and walleyes. Many can be caught right from the dock. Pontoon Boat ready to go available for rent. Space to dock your own boat included at no extra charge.

The caretakers live in the Guest House. The guest house is about 100 feet from the main home.

Water levels on Sugar Lake do not vary that much. Sugar Lake has two natural water supplies feeding it, and there is an outlet on the north end of the lake flowing out to the Crow River. The outlet has a dam thet keeps the lake level very consistant. The Normal High Water Level is 988.1ft and the current DNR water report says we are at 987.11ft. So we are 2 inches below the normal high water level. It is raining as I am typing this, and it is supposed to rain all this next week. I am sure the water level will be normal this season. We have been on Sugar Lake for 11 years, and there has never been any problems with the water level being too low as to cause any issues.

As fas as fishing goes, Sugar Lake is very good and if you want Largemouth Bass, you can easily catch your limit everyday. This is also the only lake in the area with Muskies. The 2012 DNR report shows that the adult Muskie population is very strong. It also shows a continuously improving Waleye population. We don't fish for waleyes much in the summer, but do catch them through the ice. As for the fishing, there are a lot of reeds around the south end of the lake and around our area. We have a lot of fun catching Bass with Topwater baits in these area's. There are also large cabbage weed beds that provide excellent Bass fishing especially if the shallow area's aren't producing. There are a number of sunken islands, underwater points and other fishing structure. We used to own a home on Clearwater, the lake level can get very low and the water is green. We had a lot of summers that we could barely get in our out from our dock. That is why we bought this home instead. Sugar Lake is very clear and has clean water. We can catch Bass and Sunfish right from the dock most of the time. Our home is pocated very close to about six other lakes, including Clearwater. If the fishing is poor, it is only 10 to 15 minutes to go to a different lake. Don't forget to drain live wells and remove all weeds before transporting your boat.

So much to do in the Wright County area:

-Wright County Swappers meet is open every Saturday from April to October. Memorial weekend, 4th of July weekend and Labor day weekend, it is open Friday and saturday.

-Buffalo occasional sales are the 1st weekend of every month with over 15 antique, collectable, thrift shops open. Lots of great lunch stops along the way.

-5 golf courses within 20 miles

-Annandale 4th of July is a weeklong celebration with parade, carnival, street dances.

-Clearwater Rodeo-August 14, 15,+16 with rodeo dance following the rodeo.

-Wright County Fair July 29-August 2nd. Bull Riding, demo derby, tractor pull, live music, talent show, carnival and lots of fun/food.

About Jill Banker

We love living on the lake. This is our second lake home in the Wright county area. Jill is an RN in Buffalo MN and Steve is an Automotive Technician. We love to travel and spend time fishing.

Jill Banker purchased this house in 2002

Why Jill Banker chose Metro

You will love this home and Sugar Lake. We have had a lot of good times fishing, swimming, tubing and enjoying camp fires and good friends. The Annandale area has a lot to offer besides great fishing. There is the flea market every Saturday Morning, the antique stores in Annandale and Buffalo, the historic Drug Store in Annandale, several parks, bike trails and Golf. Don't miss the 4th of July Parade and Carnival in Annadale, or the August Rodeo in Clearwater. Winter activities include ice fishing on the lake or snowmobiling-trails nearby.

What makes this house unique

Sunrise over the beach sipping my morning coffee and listening to the Loons..... Just doesn't get any better. Catching a Bass from the dock before breakfast. Spending the day on the water catching Bass and Muskies.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jill and Steve,

Thank you so much for sharing your home! Our third annual summer vacation on Sugar Lake was a smash hit with the family (once again)! We had so much fun on the pontoon whether it was touring the lake or fishing! The upgrades made to the house were noticed and appreciated. We have some excellent picture memories of your beautiful yard where the kids played Hide 'N Seek tag (no mosquitoes!) and the lake where the loons floated and played. Every year, it's better and better! We are already looking forward to renting again next year. Thank you so much for making sure everything was set up for us to simply walk in and begin to enjoy! You're the Best!

Wonderful experience

Jill and Steve were great hosts. We had a great time with family, fishing was great (lots of bass and crappies). Renting the pontoon was a plus. We will be renting the home again i would recommend it to anyone. Thank you for the memories.

Great value, exactly as described

  • 5 of 5

Jill and Steve have a great property and described it well on the listing. We stayed with 3 other couples and a couple small children for 5 days and it was perfect. Excellent outdoor space (even better than the pictures) and we rented the pontoon too. We caught tons of fish from the boat and the dock. Everything was well appointed and Steve and Jill were nearby and accessible. Super convenient from the Twin Cities and great access to nearby grocery and other necessities. Definitely on our short list for great places to stay with friends.

Beautiful Home and Lakeside Property!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Jill and Steve, for another wonderful vacation! While we prefer to catch and release, everyone enjoyed catching a variety of fish from the Pontoon! This year, my 2 year old granddaughter held/touched a bass in her hands for the first time! (She was a little small to actually catch it but was excited to "hold" it!) The Lake is so quiet! It felt as if we had it to ourselves! The kids liked simply touring the lake if they weren't fishing. And the pool is perfect for the young and old alike! We look forward to visiting again next year! Debbie

Second year and still great!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Steve & Jill for letting us enjoy their wonderful home for the second time! We are return renters as we loved being able to feel so welcome and comfortable at the Bankers! This year our children were able to be with us a few days and we all had a lot of fun on the pontoon and swimming. We always had fish and the pontoon was a must for all 7 of us so we could go out together. The little ones really liked watching the birds as they came in to the bird feeders right outside the dining window. Weather was great and we even could enjoy campfires in the evening. The pool is just the right size for goofing off and relaxing on the floats. It was a big hit for the little kids ( and the big ones too)! Hopefully we will be returning again next summer. Thanks again, Steve & Jill, for making us feel like old friends!
