We have a lovely ground level suite in our house just 15 minutes walk to restaurants, bars and shopping on Commercial Drive, and to a major transit hub that can take you Downtown, to The University of BC, or to the airport, or if you prefer, a 50 metre walk to the nearest bus stop which will have you downtown in 20 minutes.

A 20 minute walk to some of the best live theatre in Canada at The Cultch.

A 15 minute walk to beautiful Trout Lake for a stroll or picnic.

A 25 minute walk to the up and coming East Village at Hastings St for more great eating and drinking. This is in short, a great neighbourhood!

Our 1 bedroom suite comes with a full kitchen and everything you need to enjoy it should you desire to. There is Wifi, a flat screen Smart TV, cd and dvd player as well. The bedroom comes with a Queen bed and ample closet space.

The bathroom features a 2 person soaker tub with air jets, a rain style shower and heated floors.

Regretfully, we ** DO NOT ** offer a washer and dryer. There is a laundromat nearby with drop-off service.

There is a lovely garden outside the suite entrance with a place to sit and enjoy the sunset.

The house is a quiet place, so you will be guaranteed to be able to rest well.

There is ample free parking on the street in front of our house.

About Mark Gruft

Mark and Geraldine are both Vancouver born and raised, but well traveled. We live in the property and take pride in it. We are proud to show off our city and look forward to helping you enjoy it!

Mark Gruft purchased this house in 2014

Why Mark Gruft chose Grandview-Woodland

We bought this house together after we got married. The previous owners did a fantastic job of renovating this character home and it was obvious how much love they had put into it. It's a great neighbourhood not only for it's location but for the diversity of the people, who are friendly and welcoming.

Well equipped accommodations in East Van

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this suite mid week while working downtown. A very well equipped unit with all the comforts of home. Mark was very accommodating and helpful. I would definitely recommend this suite.

Charming condo close to the heart of the city

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying at Marks place. The amenities were amazing: heated floors, large jetted tub, Netflix, and a small kitchenette. Had everything we needed for a nice Vancouver getaway. Would definitely stay here again!

CLEAN MODERN AND SPACIOUS LODGINGS

  • 3 of 5

Overall the place was comfortable for a one week stay. However there were a number of disappointments. The kitchen supplies were very limited.

Upon arrival it would have been nice to have had at least a small bar of soap to take a shower, not the case! The four cups, plates etc. hardly encouraged us to have our children over since we could not even offer a cup of tea. No containers for leftovers. No laundry facilities on site, the nearest laundromat was five blocks away. By the end of the week the two bath towels, which were not changed, were looking a bit tired. Street parking may be the norm for Vancouver, but with the snow and ice we found it quite bothersome and hindered access to the lodgings. Also, and not under the control of our hosts, there was a lengthy power outage. Although we were provided with candles and a flashlight nothing was done to reflect the added cost and inconvenience of having to take an additional meal at the restaurant.

We have stayed at a number of vacation rentals and our level of satisfaction has always been greater than our experience here. It is unlikely that we would recommend this place.

Owner's Response: Dear Lise, It is terribly unfortunate that you found your stay lacking, however, as you did not communicate any of this to us at the actual time of your stay, it seems counter productive to have suffered with the deficiencies rather than inform us of your needs. I made it abundantly clear when you checked in that I was available via our front door, landline, cellphone, text and email. I am home at least 50% of the time. I’ll address your issues. -As per all of our previous reviews, people seem to find the kitchen supplies sufficient. Some of these people have stayed 2 and 3 times as long as you. -If there was no soap, it was probably an oversight by me when cleaning and restocking the suite-duly noted-although this could have been rectified immediately had you said something. -The suite is equipped for 4 people-2 occupants and 2 guests-as it is 450 sq feet. Had you required more you could have merely asked. The statement that you could not offer a cup of tea is completely incorrect, as there is a kettle and a teapot and 4 mugs at the minimum. -There have always been containers for leftovers-in fact there were at least 3 plastic containers in the lower cupboard by the fridge and there are 3 stainless steel bowls with fitted plastic lids for this purpose in the drawers beside the sink. You could have, of course, asked me for more. -There are indeed no laundry facilities on site- as clearly stated on the VRBO listing. -I believe you were provided with another set of towels immediately upon your partner’s request-perhaps you should have asked sooner. -It is clear on the listing that street parking is what is provided. I kept your access and the street sidewalk clear and salted as per City of Vancouver requirements. It’s ridiculous to complain about the weather in December like it has something to do with the quality of our accommodations. -There was indeed a power outage that began a few minutes after 6pm one evening and lasted until early morning. I phoned your partner immediately to inform him, as you were not here, and he said“we are in a restaurant at the moment”. Seems to me that you had already decided to dine out, and therefore were already making a choice to incur that expense. It is impossible for us to mitigate anyone’s dissatisfaction with our lodgings if they do not communicate their needs at the time. We are saddened that this seems to be your biggest problem with our suite in the end. All the best to you both, Mark & Geraldine

Vancouver Sojourn

  • 4 of 5

We recently enjoyed two weeks at this well appointed garden level suite. Mark met us upon arrival and oriented us to all the features. This one bedroom suite is well decorated with speedy wi-fi, a flat screen TV with good cable with access to Netflix, a small stereo and an excellent selection of books to read. We enjoyed many meals here and the kitchen has all the appliances and all the pots, pans and cutlery to cook any kind of meal. The bed and bedding were comfy and the bathroom had a deep tub with a rainwater shower head. The suite is a fifteen minute walk from Commercial Drive and the train and about the same to East Hastings and both of these areas are rife with great shops and restaurants. All in all this is a great place to stay.
