About Sallie & Jeff Pocock

My husband & myself are from England originally. We both love the natural beauty of the area we live in.

We are keen outdoor types, enjoying hiking & the variety of trails in the area, with our 2 dogs Jaffa & Mocha. Cycling, kayaking ,fishing are all right here on our door step, you don't have to drive far to get away from it all.

We both enjoy cooking, travelling & have a fair size garden to grow our own produce.

Sallie & Jeff Pocock purchased this house in 2004

What makes this house unique

We enjoy sitting & watching all the activity in the Juan de Fuca it's a busy section of water way, Orca whales,Grey Whales,Humpback, Stellar seals, Otters travel in the strait.

It's also a busy shipping way,Cruise ships ( which I love to see light up at night), naval, cargo ships travel in & out of the strait.

We love that the house faces south for getting the most out of those sunny days & the garden areas to choice from to sit relax or play games.

It's in a perfect location for us for the life style we live.

We like the light bright open plan lay out of Williwaw.

We try to make our guest feel at home & hope you enjoy the house & area as much as we do.

The place to come home to.

  • 4 of 5

Spacious, well equipped, great view of the ever changing Juan de Fuca Strait, loved the warmth and comfort of the wood stove. It was nice to soak in the hot tub after a day on the trails. The house is designed with windows that look on beauty in every direction. Sallie was available when needed but never intrusive. She had great suggestions about things to do in the area, like visiting the Shirley Delicious cafe, yum, or having a facial or pedicure next door at West Coast Esthetics, magical.

Excellent facility

  • 5 of 5

This unit is very complete, down to the shampoo in the bathroom. One small down side was the intermittent cell phone access. But that is not Jeff and Sallie's fault. They were very helpful and pleasant. We would certainly go there again.

Williwaw was AWESOME!!

  • 5 of 5

Sallie met us at the home and had a fire going!! Quite cozy and lovely with an incredible view!! Every little need was anticipated. From shampoos in every bathroom to laundry and dish soap provided. Every recommendation she made from birding sites to restaurants was SPOT ON!! We came in right after a pacific storm and the power went out. She made sure we had plenty of supplies and the house is so well built, taking advantage of natural light with windows in every room, all we needed was one flashlight to pretty much light the whole place!! The only improvement we could make would be to get and LED type lantern instead of candles and it would be well equipped should the strong winds blow again!! Loved the wood stove be we use one ourselves. The view was amazing EVERY morning it was a little different with the storms and clouds but still amazing!! When it cleared we had a view of Washington across the straight. Such a pretty drive back and forth to Sooke too!! Just can't praise this place and its set up enough. Sallie even sent us some bird pictures of her summer guests, pileated woodpeckers! She has a book with all this wonderful places to check out while your are there. Great birding places close by and Buchart Gardens in Victoria!! Just an amazing trip and wonderful memories of Williwaw!

Oh one more note. We missed our ferry due to weather and driving all the way from AZ. Sallie was kind enough to allow us to add a day on the back end of our trip if it worked for us. We could not do it but sure would have if we had the time!! She was so kind!!

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 days at Williwaw Corner, while hiking the Juan de Fuca trail. It was a delight to return each night to this lovely home. The well equipped kitchen and gas barbecue made meals a pleasure to serve. We soaked our tired muscles in the hot tub, and later enjoyed the stars while sitting around the fire pit.

We also enjoyed heating the house with the indoor wood stove, giving a nice dry heat on a damp night. It was great to have the laundry and dishwasher.

And the fabulous view! Morning, afternoon, evening and night time, there was always the panama a of the ocean and sky.

Sallie was most considerate and accommodating.

There are plenty of local activities in the area. 8oo meters from Williwaw is a small ocean front park ( Otter Point Park),which has a typical West coast feel. There is a bench , picnic table to sit & enjoy the scenery. There are several beaches near Williwaw that are only a short 5-20 minute drive away, Gordon's Beach, Ella Beach, Muir Creek, French beach to name a few.

The Galloping Goose Trail is an 55km(34 mile) former railway line. Great trail to cycle, walk, run, jog, ride a horse, only thing not allowed on the Goose is a motorized vehicle.

There are also amazing hiking trails in the area, where you can great views over the Sooke Harbour, Juan de Fuca Strait, even into Victoria. Being a keen hiker my self this is a great area for hiking.

There are also great trails for the more adventurist mountain bikers.

If you like water sport activities, there is kayaking, fishing, crabbing & shrimping. Which you can enjoy either in the Sooke basin ( which is a bit more sheltered ) or out on the Juan de Fuca Strait.

If you want to travel a bit further Botanical beach in Port Renfrew is worth a visit. It is about an hours drive from Williwaw. Check on tides before you go, low tide is best to enjoy the sand stone rich tide pools.

Hatley Castle National Historic site is located in Colwood at Royal Roads University grounds. The gardens are worth a visit.

Also located in Colwood is Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Light house, this is a beautiful historic site for all ages.

Victoria is a beautiful city to visit, the city does an amazing display of their garden's , hanging baskets & planters. There are plenty of places of interest to enjoy. Empress Hotel ( their Bengal Lounge has an amazing Indian Buffet), there are several great restaurants in town. We are keen cooks ,so have tried most restaurants in town,if you want any idea's on where to eat.

The Beacon Hill Park & Dallas road scenic ocean front walkway are beautiful to stroll through for all ages.

There are so many places to spend & enjoy your holiday time, please don't hesitate to ask Jeff or my self for idea's &/or information on the area.
