HOTT TUB! - Cozy beds

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Lighten up your life with a stay here at Camp David

Creativity similar to Meow Wolf is one of the keys to creating an interesting place to stay.

This property has lighting everywhere including the shower and bathroom. Some say that this is sort of like a burning man oasis only without the dust. There is also plenty of privacy and cushy sofas and beds to lounge in both inside and outside. While sitting outside in the maze of solar lights you can see all of them randomly switch on while sitting in a fabulous hot tub with a clean burning propane lighting sculpture . The hot tub is complete with privacy curtains and is maintained with clean water at 102 to 104 degrees.

This is not the typical sort of place you may be accustomed to . Please look at the pictures before choosing this place. There are around 30 solar and other lights that switch on during the course of the evening. (all of the lights are gentle on the soul) The environment is intentionally tuned to the level of natural light nature provides. Some of the lights are on timers and an occasional motion sensor which provides some playful ambiance to the creative spirit. Children love coming here as it spurs their creative sense of light. There is also a great sound system, throughout the house, which sounds amazing to people who like music, no matter what your musical taste may be.

There is also a doggie mascot that loves children and her name is Bella the service dog. She sometimes visits the property however not full time.

There are 2 cozy sofa's and a single bed in the common area for extra guests.

The second bedroom offers a queen size bed with a reading light for those that like quiet.

The location is idea. It is only one block from the Santa Fe river. You can walk or bike to the natural food store that is about 500 yards to the east on a nice bike path along the river and through the woods.

The opera is about 12 minutes to the North so you can be on time for your tailgate dinner and opera performance. The downtown PLAZA is a 7 minute drive to the east and most of the shopping is a 7 minute drive to the south along Cerillos Rd. There are 2 locally run breakfast and lunch diners within a mile from the house. This is the absolute perfect location for your holiday needs.

Please note there is a dog that lives on the property one day a week.

She is a service dog and very mellow and loves children.

She stays in the back left rear side of the yard only on Sundays and Mondays and never barks. After that she goes back to my former partners place.

She does not come into the house. People that are allergic to dogs have never complained of any problems.

Funky awesome place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for three days with 5 other members of my senior capstone project while we presented at a conference in town. We loved the atmosphere of Camp David and will definitely be back when we aren't stuck in meetings all day! The owner was extremely accommodating and friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

Owner's Response: Hello Margot, and guests, I really enjoyed having all of you here and I am happy that it all worked out for you. I can understand how a busy day at a conference would take lots of your time and energy. You are all welcome back again anytime. Thanks for choosing me. David

Funky, fun, comfortable, and cocooning.

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I loved this place! The owner walked that perfect line between giving us our space and being available/making sure we had everything we needed! The only tweak I would offer would be that the place was listed as "4 bedroom" which isn't, by our estimation, 100% accurate. I mean, it slept the four of us really comfortably and we were really happy with it, though!

Owner's Response: Joseph, Thanks for your amazing review. It was lovely having you and your guests. It seemed that your reunion was a great success. Meeting old friends after so long could be an award winning movie. I am glad that you all had a great time here at the house. The hot tub, fireplace, roof deck, and solar accent lighting, and convenience to town, usually makes up for any insufficiencies anyone may have. So far I have never had anyone have a bad time here as you can see by my reviews. Of all of the people staying here no one has ever complained of lack of sleeping space. It is described in detail in the description. Bedroom one master bedroom (king size bed) Bedroom 2 guest bedroom (queen size bed), couch in living room and 2 other couches. One aspect of the listing which is very unclear on the vrbo listing is a place that says Sleeps (4) in beds next to that it says Number of people it sleeps. I put down 6. Most confusing for people looking for information. My guess is that what they mean to say is Sleeps (4) in beds actually refers to the number of bedrooms. It does not say that. Had you needed 2 more bedrooms and mentioned it on your arrival I would have opened up the back area, however you and your guests seemed so happy and delighted to be here so it did not appear to be an issue at all. My policy is to give arriving guests my information sheet of where the switches are, heating controls, yard lights, and ongoing activities going on in town, plus restaurants, and special events and leave them alone. This is the guests vacation not mine. I usually leave town for vrbo guests as that is there policy. This house, with the new yoga space has a total of 7 private bedrooms with beds and the house can be configured in a multiple of floor plan arrangements by opening or closing a door or two.. The total heated sq. footage is around 3000 sq. ft. It is not really possible to convey that in a listing. I am usually able to resolve guests issues right away if they bring it up on their arrival. This place is definitely not your typical listing at all as you can see in the pictures. Thanks for staying here and I appreciate your input and support. I have left the sleeping description the same as it has been for over a year. I will bring the glitch which you mentioned to vrbo so they can clear up any problems that could arise in the future. sincerely, David Wiles

Great for your Santa Fe stay!

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic place to stay! David is very welcoming and has great knowledge of New Mexico and he goes out of his way to make sure you know local activities, restaurants, and fun things to do! Felt a little like a Santa Fe version of Alice in Wonderland. He is a master of lighting and his yard was like a step into a new world. All the beds, sofas and chairs were extremely comfortable and clean. He has big screen TVs in every room and a 3D TV in the living room that was AWESOME! This place is very close (within 8mins) from most popular things to do in Santa Fe and equally close to the highway to leave town. Hot tub is CLEAN and well maintained. Only complaint was he charged me a little extra for leaving the floor dirty when the floor was already dirty when we got there. We actually swept up some of the dirt into a pile and then couldn't find a dust pan so he probably saw that when we left and thought it was ours. We left quickly so he probably would have asked us about the dirt before we left if he had the chance. All over great place, great owner, a great choice.

Rainbow lights cape

  • 5 of 5

The unconventional with a lovely home with a sense of play. We loved the privacy in the hot tub, the laser lights in the yard. It was sort of a mystical experience. The sunsets and views from the property are absolutely amazing.

The grounds are wellsprings of wonder with art work a la burning man meets meow wolf set with a hot tub three open air fireplaces, budding fruit trees and pines.

The Master bedroom sports a king size brass bed with wall to wall carpet, big screen tv, hidden sink and fridge and was eloquent and we loved watching a net flix movies and amazon streaming. The living room sports a real fireplace and art.........neon bull skulls, neon art pieces, and mission oak furniture. Located two miles from the historic district, we were a block from the river walk where spring was evident everywhere. ahhhhhh

About david wiles

My name is David Wiles. I have lived in Santa Fe for around 19 years. I came from Santa Fe with basically very little and have created a lighting extravaganza here at my listing. I assure you there is no listing like what I have created.

I have a passion for traveling the world for 2 to 4 months at a time plus enjoy my yearly sojourn to Black Rock City in the Nevada Desert for 14 years.

My most recent passion is creating light with G scale or garden train layouts. I have around 400 feet of track on the property and 10 locomotives with a circus train as well as passenger cars that light up at night. I started the train hobby around August of 2017. It has grown very fast.

I try to stay current in life with exercising my creative side. I am blessed to have tools and experience to fabricate some of my ideas into various unique and interesting sculptures of light, water, and fire.

From my travels and work as a glass blower of neon lighting for the last 12 years I have what some people call a love for lighting. I love the multi colored lasers which add an amazing lighting effect to gardens and water features in the warmer months.

I have also designed 3 fire sculptures in the yard and 3 water sculptures that live on the property.

My friends often remark about how my place has an interesting appearance of burning man meets Hollywood. Every month there is a new lighting feature on the property. (this varies durning seasons)

Part of my creative passion to visualize and construct sculptures with fire and water, crystals and laser lights. I mentioned that I am adding video on the train locomotives that gives the observer a real time view of the journey of the train around the track through a jungle of lights and crystals. (current project)

I also studied percussion at Interlochen Arts Academy and Oberlin Conservatory and am fond of great music and have performed in Carnegie Hall and most of Europe with symphony orchestras. I have retired from performing .

david wiles purchased this apartment in 2002

Why david wiles chose Santa Fe

I purchased this property several years ago because there are no neighbors to the back of the lot line which offers more privacy. There are a number of trees through out which attracts all kinds of birds during the warm months.

This was the easiest and most convenient of my properties to create into a master piece. It is centrally located to most of Santa Fe and it's location offers a quick escape north to Taos while being about 2 miles west of the Plaza.

The opera is also located 10 minutes from our front door to the north with Meow Wolf only a 5 minute drive the other direction. There is also a lovely river walk right out the door of the house. The river often is not running however when it does it is even better for short walks. The beauty of this property other than the central location , is the added water features in the fall, spring, and summer. I have enjoyed making this place into a lighting mecca as well and the interesting array of lighting, crystals and water features. There is noting like it in any listing that you will find on VRBO.

What makes this apartment unique

Based on the feed back I have heard:

You will not find another place in Santa Fe with the decks and sunset views plus a lovely propane fire sculpture located next to the hot tub. New to the 2018 season is G scale train set up which I am happy to show guests on request.

We are very close to the Meow Wolf installation and most convenient to down town and a block away from the Santa Fe river walk.

This place has a hot tub and we are currently looking into a sauna coming June 2016.

We also have a 3d Movie set up in the living room 52 inch screen plus a private movie set up in the master bedroom which is also a 52 inch screen. It is set up for net flix.

This is one of the homiest rentals you will find anywhere. There are collectables from all over the world from my travels to many countries. They include Bali, Asia, Laos, India, Viet Nam, Cambodia, India, and Europe and China, Thailand, and Florida.

Many of the artifacts can be found in the Genie Bottle room which is a small temporary sort of out building that is enchanting for guests to hang out in during the warmer months especially.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stayed at David's house for the weekend, in a historic area close to the Santa Fe Plaza - shops, restaurants, churches . The house is a sort of Magic Castle of lights and fire pits. David is a great host and I met many of his interesting friends - artists and Santa Fe originals - at a gathering he hosted. I would stay here again the next time I visit Santa Fe if it is available.
