Our family calls the cottage "Contento" which means happy, glad, contented. It is hard not feel that way while you are staying here and sitting the large porch viewing the wildlife and watching the sail and power boats come in and out of Eagle Harbor. You will be able to relax in our cozy private cottage in the center of Ephraim on the shore in lovely Door County. You are in the center of town minutes away from the many activities that Door County has to offer.
Contento was originally the family boat house that was used to store sailing and other gear. It was first converted to house teenage boys. Over time a kitchen and the porch were added along with the fireplace. Since that time it has been owned and used by our family. When our parents moved to a retirement facility we decided to rent it during the summer and fall season when we are using other family houses in Ephraim. Our grandchildren are the 5th generation of family that have been coming to Door County to enjoy all that is offered. Most of the family currently live in the greater Chicagoland area. Our family has a long tradition of envolvement in the Ephriam Historical Foundation and was one of the founders of of the Ephraim Yacht Club. We suggest that you take time to visit the Foundation to learn about the history of Ephriam. For you sailors, we suggest you visit the webpage of the Ephraim Yacht Club, www.eyc.org, to learn about what it is and how to participate. Membership is open and costs $200 for initiation and the annual dues is $200 per year. Once you are checked out, the EYC fleet of sail boats is available to use. The primary focus of the EYC is provide sailing lessons to children and to promote amature sailing. Two week lessons begin in June with one week lessons in August. Adult lessons are also available privately.
Inaddition to sailing, many of us are busy fishing. People say that the small mouth bass fishing in Eagle Harbor is some of the best in Door County which is recognized as some of the best in country. Perch fishing is also very good and walleye fishing is fantastic. Salmon and trout fishing is also available. Much has been written about the many opportunities to fish in Door County. We can probably help you to know what is biting and where. There are also many guides available to hire if you want. well.
Our family also enjoys the numerous natural areas and parks that have been preserved throughout Door County.

All of our family and friends enjoy our time when we us Contento. We hope that once you have stayed in Contento you will as well and will want to come back time and time again. We look forward to getting to know you. SInce we normally live closeby during the summer and fall, we are available to give you pointers and ideas regarding what Door County has to offer and answer your questions.
The pictures we have posted show the great views that we enjoy from sunrize to sunset out over Eagle Harbor. You too can enjoy these views from the porch or out on the private lawn next to the water. You can see ducks, geese, swans, white pelicans, sandhill cranes bald eagles and lots of shore birds whileA you are there. You can watch the water activities, wade, swim, launch a canoe or kayak from our dock or go fishing from our yard. You are also just a short walk from the many activities, shops and restraunts in the Village of Ephraim.
My husband, son, grandson and mini-dachshund spent a long weekend in this rental. This is a charming, old-school bungalow - the kind you would picture when thinking of a classic wooden cottage by the water in Wisconsin. The home is appointed with original furnishings used by the owner's family through the years. There is a substantial amount of lawn area and is flanked by neighbors within 'talking' distance.
We were looking for rentals which allowed pets because we didn't want to board our aging mini-dachshund. Fortunately, they accept certain pets on approval. We also wanted a house on the water.
We got more than we bargained for. So many shops and restaurants were within walking distance – many right across the street. The town of Ephraim is smack in the middle of Door County's row of towns dotted up and down the Green Bay side of the peninsula. Tucked away on Eagle Harbor with a view of Peninsula State Park across the water, the views and sunsets were awesome. Our 3 year old grandson enjoyed playing in the shallow water just off the private dock (you'll need water shoes to avoid the shattered sea shells). The owners shared with us, their rich and fascinating family history in the Ephraim area, going back over 90 years. We would highly recommend this well-maintained property for those who are looking for a comfortable and relaxing vacation in a scenic venue, rather than a spa experience with all the amenities.
Besides the spetacular Peninsula State Park Golf course there are 5 others with in a short drive. Our cottage is in the center of Ephraim and is accessable to all that Door County has to offer. Fishing is great just steps away. Your will be staying on the water so there are many opportunities to enjoy. Rent the cottage and sign your children up for sailing lessons at the Ephraim Yacht Club this year or next. Ther is much to do.
