About the property

1920's cottage with modern kitchen, bath and new queen bed

Luxurious, charming, unique, and perfect.

The almost 500-square-foot house at Snow Hill Street is the North End’s tiniest standalone single-family. It’s also one of the 10 tiniest houses in Boston, period.

Despite its diminutive size, Snow Hill certainly packs a lot in. There’s a bedroom loft, for one thing, and a full kitchen. There is also a full bathroom and a living room. There’s even a fireplace and a private patio.

From the cast iron spiral staircase that takes you up to the cozy bedroom loft, to The living room adorned with old world rough pine paneling and a brick fireplace.

Located in the heart of Boston's historic North End, this single cottage, flooded with natural light from the skylights, was originally used as a sculptor's studio in the early 1960's.

For the past 95 years this property has been one of the most charming residences in the North End.

The modern full kitchen is ready to serve a delicious home made meal, that can be eaten either outside on the beautiful flower designed patio or inside on the new glass dining table, either way you choose, you dine in comfort.

The bathroom is very modern and luxurious with a subway tiled large shower with a Carrera marble bench seat and heated floors.

The dining area seats four and the living area has a double recliner, and an antique rocking chair, where you can sit back and relax as you watch the Sony 40" smart TV, or listen to our collection of music Cd's, or you can watch a movie on the Blu ray player with the collection of movies we have available.

After a day of walking the Freedom Trail you will retire comfortably to

The bedroom loft with it's new queen size bed with gel foam mattress, a laptop work desk is available for those who wish to read their Email or surf the internet.

A large dresser will store your clothes so you don't have to live out of your suit case.

Outside awaits one of the nicest rooms we offer, A comfortable patio with a table, umbrella and chairs, where you you can enjoy feasting on your home cooked meals, or just

relaxing and sipping your morning espresso or your evening glass of wine.

The North End, Boston’s “Little Italy,” is famous for its Italian food and feasts. It is Boston’s oldest neighborhood, a one-square-mile waterfront community not far from Faneuil Hall with a population of about 10,000.

With close to 100 restaurants, Pastry shops and boutiques, you just can't go wrong if you like to eat and shop

.At the top of the hill lies a dog park for those who bring Fido and a parking garage is also located at the end of the street.

The Four great reasons to visit the North End:

1) The history.

2) The food

3) The Feasts

4) The architecture

About Joseph and Susan DeFazio Property owners

I spent the early part of my youth living in the North End. My family owned a home just up the street from the Cottage on Hull St.

I attended Saint Anthony's, Saint Mary's and Christopher Columbus High School all located in the North End. We attended

Sunday mass at either Saint Leonard's or Saint Mary's churches, My mother loved the children's Choirs at these churches and we would split our time between them.

My family moved to the South Shore in the late sixties due to my fathers job change.

I have always loved the North End and returned there to visit my Aunts and walk the neighborhood streets every chance I could.

Joseph and Susan DeFazio Property owners purchased this cottage in 1973

Why Joseph and Susan DeFazio Property owners chose Boston

The Enchanted Cottage is right off the Freedom Trail and right around the corner from the Old North church, within walking distance to everything that you came to Boston to experience.

This cottage is not just a rental but a family home that has been part of my family for over 40 years. It is unique in that it is a single family home and not an apartment, it also has an outside patio and does not require you to climb two or three flights of stairs.

What makes this cottage unique

The Enchanted Cottage is a single family home with a wonderful patio, where you can sit out side and enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine,

where you can enjoy a conversation with the friendly residents of the area or the Boston visitors who always stop and ask about the cottage.

The 420-square-foot house at 54 Snow Hill Street is the North End’s tiniest standalone single-family.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful little home in the North End. Great location. Spiral staircase is quaint but may not work for older couples especially with the bathroom down on main level. Very clean and well appointed.

Best VRBO Ever!

  • 5 of 5

The title says it all. I have stayed in many rentals and this one was the best by far. From the modern but quaint accommodations, to the well stocked cabinets when I arrived; absolutely delightful. Located in the highly desirable "Italian" neighborhood, I felt like a local celebrity with so much interest in this charming cottage. Thank you Joe and Sue. It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope you continue to do well.

Enchanted Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 6 weeks living in this incredible little house and loved every minute of it. Living in the North End in Boston is a unique experience and this house is wonderfully positioned to take advantage of it all. The location is perfect, the restaurants are plentiful and excellent. You are within walking distance to Faneuil Hall and the walk along the waterfront is delightful. You are just a few blocks from the T that takes you directly to the wonder Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The only thing you need to bring to Susan and Joe's Enchanted Cottage is your clothes and a tooth brush. The wonderful hosts are amazing and gracious. We look forward to returning.

The enchanted cottage is beautiful and felt Iike home straightaway. Fantastic location and was great to stay in a part of Boston with so much history. The cottage is cosy and the owners provide everything you could possibly need. To have the snacks, milk, coffee etc was great after a long journey. Can't wait to go back to this lovely place.

Authentic North End immersion experience

  • 5 of 5

First off, would I book this property again? Yes, without hesitation.

We have been to the Boston area at least 4 times, but no previous visit was as enjoyable as this one. Having a private house, as a base, is so much more relaxing.

This property is clean and well maintained. The bed is comfortable and the shower is spotless.

The photos do not lie. If you think this place is small, that is because it is, but it works.

We did not rent a car and transportation was not a problem. The location is seriously no more then a 10 minute cab ride from the airport. Once settled in, the T is an easy 10 minute walk, to Haymarket station. The North Station, under the new Boston Garden, is a similar distance but Haymarket is a nicer walk, down Salem St. One train will you directly to Fenway, or Newbury Street. If you need a car, Zipcars live in the garage at the end of the block. You are also about 3 short blocks from two of Boston's most visited food establishments: Mike's Pastry and Regina Pizzeria.

Here is what you need to know.

Snow Hill Street actually is on a hill -as the name would suggest. It is not steep, but some very minimal level of fitness is advised. Bostonians actually walk places. Some physical competence is also necessary for using the wrought-iron, spiral staircase to get up to the loft. This is where the bed is.

Do not bother bringing in any groceries until you see what is already available in the kitchen. You will be surprised at what has been provided.

The owners are available if needed and respond to emails almost immediately. We had no problems with the rental but we knew that the owners were a phone call away.

There is no washing machine in the unit, but take your pick from several laundromats, or drop-off cleaners, in the neighborhood.

Also, in case you have not heard, this part of Boston has an ever so slight Italian influence. You will not find any McDonald's or Denny's around here. In fact, there are no national chain restaurants. Do prepare to settle in for unhurried evenings including gnocchi, chicken parm, and chianti, at any of probably 50 independent restaurants and bars. The lobster rolls are at Quincy Market, just outside your North End neighborhood.

If you have a week or more to spend in Boston, do yourself a a favor and experience real life in the North End. Stay at this unique location and think about the 400 years of history that has unfolded right here, on this corner.
