About Maggie Weldon

I grew up in Detroit and suburbs of Michigan. Twenty-two years ago I moved to North Carolina and I LOVE it here. I have owned a crochet business for over 30 years. After working 60+ hours for 20+ years, I am semi-retired and ready to travel. My business is in a home zoned for commercial use so I stay there when this house is rented.

Maggie Weldon purchased this house in 1995

Why Maggie Weldon chose Heartland

In 1995 while house hunting - I saw this house and it was love at first sight. I LOVE it even more now. I've had so many good times in this house. I raised my kids here, rented it out for 10 years and recently moved back to it after a divorce. I LOVE fixing it up and creating a magical, relaxing universe. In the back yard I have l a hammock, fire pit etc. A huge beautiful lake is right across the street. Every year I host a 4th of July party and 40 of us walk across the street to see beautiful fireworks put on by the City of High Point. Labor Day weekend there is an all day Jazz festival that is amazing. Last year the headliner was George Benson! The house had two very long driveways which provide ample parking for several cars.

What makes this house unique

This is a very warm clean house that is great for family and or friends to hang out. If you are traveling this home is so much better than any hotel. It's great when everyone in your group can stay together.

Going Home

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Maggie's lovely home in High Point was a great part of my family reunion (8 of us) in the Carolina's. The place and Maggie are so welcoming, it was like staying at an old friend's house.

The home was clean and inviting and the large backyard with the hammock and birds was a delight. She has bird feeders just outside the screened in porch and we saw all kinds of birds including Finches and Cardinals. Sitting around the fire pit at night with family felt like being in a national forest.

We also spent hours across the street at Oak Hollow Lake. What a beautiful place. The lake has really good kayaks for rent and we spent hours paddling around.

I highly recommend this home for any visits; everything was professional and clean and showed a lot of planning for making the house comfy and fun. Our family is so grateful to have had such a nice place to stay in.

Owner's Response: Hi Will, Thank you for your lovely review. I am so glad your family enjoyed our home. Oak Hallow Lake is such a beautiful place to visit and it's right across the street. I'm so glad you visited and had fun paddling. This summer I saw a Bald Eagle while paddling - what a thrill that was. You are welcome here any time. We have special gift baskets for guests that re-book. Take Care, Maggie

50th Wedding Anniversary

  • 5 of 5

My aunt and uncle who live in Greensboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their children invited family and friends from all over to come celebrate with them. 10 of us met up from Wisconsin, Tennessee and Florida and stayed at the house. It is lovely, comfortable and accommodating. It has everything you might need. When we weren't at the anniversary party or sleeping on one of the VERY comfortable beds, we were gathered around the spacious dining room table sharing a meal or playing games. Lots of laughter and love. We thoroughly enjoyed each others company and the house. I wish we'd had one more day to just hang out. I really looked forward to a nap on the hammock but seems like each time I went out there, someone else was having a turn. Oh, well. Maybe next time. :)

Thanks so much for helping to make our mini-reunion so special by letting us stay at your beautiful house. It's everything your description said it would be. We can highly recommend it and would love to come back some day.

We were not thrilled...

  • 2 of 5

While this truly is a lovely home, with a big private backyard, and well-appointed in terms of comfort items (coffee, tea, cookware, towels), we were quite disappointed in this property. I took a long time to decide whether to write this review or not, because my VRBO experiences have always been great & I truly hate to be negative, but I felt it was a disservice not to be honest. I am still incensed that we paid as high a cleaning fee as we did because this house was most certainly NOT professionally-cleaned. It was, in fact, quite dirty. The master bedroom seemed clean, as did the kitchen at first sight, but the cobwebs, insects, dust bunnies and general yuckiness were soon revealed everywhere -- there were 5 spiders just in the Cuisinart! My guests were totally grossed out, and I've been apologizing to them ever since, as they felt we way overpaid for this property and they were very unhappy. I am visually impaired myself, so I was not as horrified at the cleanliness, but I was deeply disappointed by the hammock, which was prominently advertised. That hammock was filthy, broken and completely unusable. The fire pit outside was full of cigarette butts & debris. The baseboards were full of dust & cobwebs & we had complaints about spiders in every single room. First, the garbage disposal malfunctioned, then the dishwasher, then the downstairs toilet. These were all addressed during our stay, but we never had a warm & fuzzy feeling, and my guests grew increasingly disgruntled. When I spoke to the owner to complain about the bugs & filth, she complained that we left make-up on the towels & that some of the dishes were not properly washed. We used the dish products left for us, and while we understand the benefits of an eco-friendly home, we were skeeved to learn that the towels were not bleached with hot water between guests. The girls who left make-up on the towels own a salon & use white towels every day with the same exact cosmetics, so this should not have been an issue. Overall, we were less than thrilled. I would have held my bad review if the owner had been willing to reimburse the cleaning fee or make amends, but she said "that's not happening," so there you have it. I look forward to continuing my excellent relationships with other property owners with whom I already have repeat rentals booked & hope to find a cleaner, friendlier and less bug-infested home for our team's annual visit to Greensboro. This was a major embarrassment for me.

Owner's Response: Before & after these guests, we have had all 5-star reviews on VRBO and all hosting sites. All complaints lead back to the money. This booking was $2,000 for a one week with $125 cleaning fee. This is very reasonable for a 7 night stay in a 2100 sqft house for 10 people. At the time of this booking, I was new to hosting on VRBO so I gave these guests very lenient payment terms. The last payment was due July 30 - five days before their stay. On July 30th when final $1580 was due, I received a lengthy rude message from guest stating I was so awful to request payment before it was due. When she finally realized it was the 30th she replied: “Check. Today is the 30th. Sigh” What started out “can we make early payments?” quickly became “I don’t have the money to pay” And now I have this situation…The guests want their money back. They have exaggerated claims of bugs and uncleanliness in an attempt to get their money back. We were available 24/7 to address anything the guests needed during their stay. On day 1, Eddie my assistant met the guests and gave them a tour. Guests were encouraged to contact us if they needed anything. Guests complained about the garbage disposal. When we responded with offers to help no one replied. Eventually a guest took it upon himself to fix it and we were accused of not responding. Days later several guests started texting about the broken handle on the downstairs toilet. I got a replacement and fixed it. While at the house fixing the toilet we received texts from other guests stating that the upstairs toilet was broken too. I checked and nothing was wrong. I live in this house when it’s not being rented. If accusations of filth and bugs in every room were true I would not live there. There was nothing under the beds. A bar on one end of the hammock was broke but the hammock was still usable. My assistant was supposed to repair this but forgot. We have a new hammock now. The towels are bleached. Guest left such heavy make-up stains on the towels that we filed an insurance claim for 18 sets ruined. We have pictures. Several dishes were put away soiled with caked-on food and coffee rings. Every dish, pan and appliance had to be taken down and cleaned. We make every effort to assure our guests are well taken care of during their stay. We strive for perfection as if it were possible - our 5-star ratings will attest to that fact.
