Overview

About the property

Studio apartment, Kitchenette, Sleeps 2-4, Fenced yard, Gas BBQ, boat parking.

Our cabin style, pet-friendly hideaway is nestled in the foothills between Don Pedro Lake and Lake McClure in the Sierra Foothills. It's forty five minutes from our guest house to the Big Oak Flat Entrance of Yosemite National Park. We love the panoramic views that can be seen from Hwy 132 and Hwy 120 on the way to Yosemite. Plan to visit Hetch Hetchy which John Muir described as more beautiful than Yosemite Valley. A short 5 to 10 minute drive from the Hide Away you can spend a relaxing day of fishing, swimming, skiing, and boating on two lakes. Or drive 15 to 35 minutes to tour the historic gold rush towns of Coulterville, Jamestown, Sonora, and Columbia.

The spacious studio features a queen size bed, kitchenette, dining table, comfy couch, satellite TV, WiFi and private patio with a gas BBQ. An additional queen size AeroBed or child size AeroBed can be set up by request. A fully fenced yard gives you the flexibility to safely leave your pet at the Hide Away, while you tour Yosemite and surrounding historic towns in Gold Country.

About Dru Howenstine

We have lived at Lake Don Pedro since 1989. The promise of country living brought us here from the Los Angeles area. Our son grew up climbing trees, hiking to the lake and building forts. Friends who visit us call our life style "resort living." We enjoy coffee on our deck in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening watching the sunset. Our families thought we were crazy to move here….and then they all moved here too! I like to call it the wild west. Things are different here. The hills are rich in history and gold. Notorious bandits and criminals have passed through here or stayed to here to hide from the law. Whether you choose to put your feet up and take a break from a busy life style or explore our slice of heaven, we promise you a memorable vacation.

Dru Howenstine purchased this studio in 1995

Why Dru Howenstine chose Gold Country & High Sierra

Why stay in an impersonal hotel or camp in a tent when you can stay in a cozy guest cabin with most of the amenities of home. Our guest house is 5 minutes from the Fleming Meadows boat ramp at Lake Don Pedro. You can ski or fish all day and then come back to the Hide Away to BBQ and relax for the evening. And you can safely park your boat right outside the guest house.

Yosemite is an easy drive from here. Take a picnic, hiking boots and your camera to make your own special memories in Yosemite. Or take a day trip to the historic gold mining town of Columbia to experience life in the 1840's. Jamestown and Sonora boast historical downtowns filled with antique shops, restaurants and cultural displays. Lake Don Pedro is 2 hours from San Francisco and an hour and a half from Sacramento. Once your arrive we will share more points of interest that you may enjoy.

What makes this studio unique

We loved the hideaway! The cabin was spotlessly clean, well equipped, cozy and the owners were great! We wish we could have stayed longer!

Thanks for everything!

Cozy and welcoming~

Dru and Ron were great hosts. This hideaway was perfect for our last girls weekend in California before going our separate ways on new adventures! I would say this was the best homeaway I have stayed at!

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was more than we expected. We were here for a fishing tournament at Don Pedro and this place is convently located for access to either of the lakes. We will certainly be back. The Howenstiens are great host.

Wonderful, Scenic Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this little hideaway was wonderful! The cabin has all the amenities you need for a getaway and more! It is well maintained, clean, allows for privacy, and is very comfortable. We especially enjoyed being able to use a washer and dryer at that point in our vacation. The Howenstines are terrific hosts, and offered their help whenever we asked!

The drive and proximity to Yosemite were ideal for us; not too far away. There is a gas station close to the cabin, but not too much in the way of restaurants or grocery stores unless you plan to drive farther out. If you're looking for a place to stay near the mountain views, but also enjoy the comforts of WiFi and television: this is the perfect place!
